As part of Afternoon on 3's British Music Season, Nicola Heywood Thomas presents a live concert from the BBC National Orchestra of Wales in Hoddinott Hall, Cardiff focusing on the three great pillars of Welsh composition from the past 100 years: Alun Hoddinott, William Mathias and Daniel Jones. We explore their orchestral music revealing the colours and emotions at the heart of Welshness in music. Plus we discover how contemporary composers have built upon their foundations, starting with John Hardy.
