12 Characteristics of a Godly Pastor
3/13/2024
Rapp Report episode 289 This looks at twelve characteristics of a godly elder. An elder can be the best or worst thing for a church. A sinful or selfish elder is the church’s destruction. However, a godly elder is the church’s blessing. Most people would go to 1 Timothy 3:1-7 or Titus 1:10-16 for the qualifications of an elder, but we will look at different characteristics that Paul points out to Timothy throughout the books of 1 and 2 Timothy. What is a Pastor? Not a Woman, Part 1
1/10/2024
Rapp Report episode 282 Andrew starts his series on "What is a Pastor" with a discussion on what a pastor is not and that is a woman. Andrew addresses the following emotional arguments that people make: That is misogynist. Women are just as good at public speaking as men / Women can teach just as good as men Why do you think women are not smart enough to read/interpret/preach from their Bibles? Women will respond to the Gospel presented in a way they can relate to it and men cannot do that. “Who did Jesus appear to first? A woman! Thank goodness she didn’t believe she couldn’t preach!” It is about equality “There is no male or female, no Jew nor Greek..." there aren't gender distinctions anymore (Gal 3:28) The Bible says, "you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood..." so if we are all priests then women can act in the role of preaching. If women are not allowed to preach then they are victims of oppression and are not being allowed to serve God fully. If God has gifted a woman with preaching and called her to do it, who are we to say she cannot? How do you know God has not called some women to preach and gifted them with that gifting? If a woman feels "called to preach" but is denied this by the church then that church is causing her to sin by not allowing her behind the pulpit. Paul was speaking to the culture in 1 Timothy 2:12ff so it no longer applies to us Women can be pastors over children’s ministries. Women pastors in the church could preach because they were preaching under the authority of the senior pastor. Email: “I have a need - please stop maligning women pastors in your memes. I have been called and ordained by God. I am conservative, and prolife. I pastor a small congregation that no man would take because the salary is very low. Women were never maligned by our Lord. Now your meme about "not a pastor not a church" has stirred up a hornet's nest on FB Calvinism the Group that Chooses You. Does this serve the body of Christ? What is gained? This diminishes what should be our common efforts to combat Satan and reach the secular, God-hating populace. If the Spirit gives me gifts to preach and pastor, who are you to ignore that and criticize? May the peace of Christ and his truth, be with you. Raised in a conservative Jewish home, Dr. Brown’s perspective is shaped by his personal journey to a Pentecostal charismatic faith, offering listeners a unique lens through which to examine the situation in Israel. We start off by immersing ourselves in the history of the modern state of Israel, the Jewish people's connection to the land, and the various peoples that have lived in the area over the centuries. We then focus on the unique history of the Arab-Israeli conflict and the myths surrounding the Palestinian people and the Jewish people, breaking down misconceptions and shedding light on the realities of life in Israel. The refugee crisis in Israel is another critical area that we delve into, revealing its unique characteristics and the role of various nations in its perpetuation. As we venture further into the current political dynamics in Israel, we unpack the controversial role of Prime Minister Netanyahu and the ethical dilemmas faced by Israel in the international arena. We also discuss the spiritual darkness surrounding the group's actions and tactics used by Hamas, shedding light on the harsh realities faced by the people of Gaza. Dissecting Faith and Works: A Deep Dive into Salvation and James 2
7/5/2023
Rapp Report episode 275 Are good works the ticket to salvation? We crack open the theological conundrum often associated with James 2. Discover the purpose of works in salvation as we dissect the often misinterpreted words of James 2. We will navigate through the multi-faceted concept of 'salvation,' examining the distinct meanings of regeneration, sanctification, and glorification and the role each plays in our ultimate redemption. Rest assured, the issue of works-based salvation will not leave us stumped - we are excluding glorification from this debate, and you will soon find out why. Ready to challenge societal norms and confront harsh realities? Let us embark on a journey through faith and works, taking cues from James himself. Witness the power of faith when works fortify it and learn why faith alone might land you no better off than a demon. We will lay bare the truth about those who are all talk and no action and reveal how the consistency of your actions could be a litmus test for the authenticity of your faith. Dive into the life of Abraham, a case study on the importance of faith and works. We will delve into how Abraham's willingness to sacrifice Isaac was a testament to his faith, a form of sanctification, not regeneration. It is a potent reminder that our works justify us in the eyes of others, not God. So, whether you are a seasoned believer or a spiritual seeker, this episode promises a fresh perspective on salvation and the role of works in faith. (0:00:01) - Interpreting James 2 (17 Minutes) We tackle the often-discussed topic of whether works are necessary for salvation. We discuss the importance of understanding the authorial intent behind words like "salvation," which can have multiple meanings depending on context. We define terms such as regeneration, sanctification, and glorification and explain how each relates to salvation. (0:17:18) - The Importance of Works in Faith (9 Minutes) We explore the concept of faith and works, the societal norm of selling oneself into slavery or begging for food due to persecution. We consider the example of James, who speaks to those scattered abroad and facing difficult circumstances. We discuss the idea that faith without works is dead and examine the concept that the works someone does over a long period of time can show if they have genuine faith. We contemplate the concept that those who profess belief without possessing faith are no better than demons and that it would be foolish to profess belief without having it. (0:26:36) - Justification by Works and Faith (17 Minutes) We explore the notion of justification by works through the life of Abraham. We explain how Abraham's faith was proven genuine through his willingness to sacrifice Isaac. We further explain that Abraham was justified by works, a type of sanctification, not regeneration. We discuss how Abraham was already regenerated long before he offered his son as an offering and how the works justified him in the eyes of others, not in God's eyes. Finally, we talk about how James is not speaking of regeneration but of sanctification when he says that a man is justified by works and not by faith alone. (0:43:49) - Podcast and Speaking Engagements Updates (8 Minutes) We discuss upcoming events, including evangelism training sessions and meetings in Indianapolis, DC, Idaho, and New York. We also discuss speaking engagements at churches and the Legacy Classical Christian Academy Worldview Week in Texas. Finally, we encourage listeners to share this episode with others and contact us if they want to attend one of our upcoming events. Dinosaurs, Dragons, and the Bible with Bodie Hodge
6/14/2023
Rapp Report episode 274 Dinosaurs, Dragons, and the Bible is a one-of-a kind Christian apologetic resource sure to captivate families, scientists, historians, and theologians! Using the Bible as the absolute authority, Bodie Hodge of Answers in Genesis, the Creation Museum, and the Ark Encounter, provides answers to the most asked questions about these amazing creatures. As Christians, we must not ignore what the Scriptures say about dinosaurs and dragons and accept the secular world’s wisdom. This #ProBible handbook offers fascinating answers based on fossil footprints, soft tissue, biblical references to dragons, serpents, and leviathans, and much more. Go beyond the Hollywood version of these magnificent creatures to discover the truth of these icons of Creation and testaments of God’s power in the Genesis Flood. Designed for almost all ages, the book answers questions such as: How Did Huge Dinosaurs Fit on the Ark? Are Dinosaurs and Dragons the Same Thing? How Do I Use the Bible as the Framework to Look at Dinosaurs? Were Dinosaurs on Noah’s Ark (and Did Any Go Extinct Before the Flood)? Are Dinosaur Fossils in the Cretaceous, Jurassic, and Triassic Rock Millions of Years Old or from the Flood? Why Don’t We Find the Word “Dinosaur” in the Bible? Are There Any Human and Dinosaur Fossils Buried Together? Dinosaurs are nearly synonymous with evolution in the minds of much of the world. Studying these answers will help Christian families, church leaders, scientists, and theologians develop greater faith in the infallibility of God’s Word and His role as Creator.
