BriarWorks is a a pipe maker co-op with several other pipe makers, including Todd Johnson, who co-founded it with Pete. Brian and Pete will be talking about what's new at BriarWorks, and how they are getting ready to attend the Chicago pipe show. (This was recorded before the show that took place last weekend.) Our featured interview tonight is with Rick Newcombe. Rick is a well-known author of two pipe books, and he is currently working on his third book about pipes. He is a prominent collector of Danish pipes, and vintage tobaccos. He has traveled the world visiting pipe makers, and learning their different techniques. He is also the founder and chairman of Creators Syndicate, which currently represents more than 200 writers and artists. At the top of the show we'll have a Pipe Smoking 101 segment discussing best pipe shapes and sizes that are best suited to certain types of tobacco.

It tells the story of the first 100 years of Brigham pipes, and includes an extensive shape chart with actual photos of the pipes. The book lays out not only the chronology of Canada’s most prominent pipe-maker but also never before compiled information on the pipes themselves, including the stamps, grading schemes and pinning patterns used between 1906 and 2006. In Pipe Parts, Brian talks to Jeremy Reeves, the head blender at Cornell & Diehl about growing, curing, fermenting, and aging tobacco.

Tim will talk about his pipe journey, and provide the latest details on the Chicago pipe show. Our featured interview tonight is with Pipe Artisan Jeff Gracik. Our regular listeners will know Jeff from our ongoing series, "Ask the Pipemaker". Jeff makes J. Alan Pipes and is an expert, artisan pipe maker for 20-years. He is involved in a new line of pipes that are exact replicas of hand-made artisan pipes. Jeff is working with two pipe makers in China, GH Zhang and Ping Zhan, who have set up CNC Manufacturing / Machining. With this they can replicate complicated hand designed pipes. They will be limited production, co-branded pipes that are licensed and authorized by the pipe makers. The pipe makers get a cut of each pipe sold, and reach a new audience that normally didn't have the budget for one of their hand made pipes. In Pipe Parts, Brian will review a tin of Sutliff Cringle Flake from 2020.

Our featured interview tonight is with Per George Jensen. Most pipe enthusiasts know Per as the longtime Mac Baren Tobacco Company spokesman. Earlier this year he made some changes in his life. He got married, moved to Germany and parted ways with Mac Baren, but not with the tobacco business. He is consulting with Sutliff Tobacco Co., and he created the popular and unique signature tobacco series, "Pipe Force". At the top of the show Brian will discuss his latest pipe acquisition, which is one of the last pipes made by late Japanese pipe artisan, Satou Smio, who died in July of this year.
