Indian literature is one of the most ancient in the world. And Indian fairy tales are the oldest existing. These are fantastic stories on various themes: miracles, magic, cunning, luck, wit etc. Joseph Jacob, an English historian and a specialist in folklore, collected some of them into a book "Indian Fairy Tales". "The Prince and the Fakir" is a fairy tale about a King, who had no children and that's why he decided to lie down on the crossroad to atone for his sins. One day a Fakir saw the King and offered to help him for a service. Fakir promised that the King will have two sons, but one of them he should give to Fakir. So the King accepted his offer.
