Episode 129: Dave E.

In this episode you will meet Dave E. from Toronto, Ontario. Our conversation begins with Dave sharing his personal story of recovery, the difficulty he had with interpreting the god-speak that he heard in AA meetings, and the relief he felt from finding secular AA meetings. Later in the podcast, we talk about what we do with our sobriety. How we spend our time, and what we do to stay engaged and content as people in recovery.

Episode 128: Twelve Secular Steps

This episode features a talk by Bill W., author of Twelve Secular Steps: An Addiction Recovery Guide. Bill's book is an excellent resource for anyone who is interested in a secular interpretation of the Twelve Steps, but I think it is particularly useful for someone who is just beginning their recovery journey. This is a rebroadcast of the KC Secular AA Speaker Meeting podcast. That meeting and podcast is now defunct, so I thought it would be nice if we could post those episodes at AA...

Episode 124: Step Three

Step Three, in its original form reads as "Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him." The words "God" and "Him" lead many nonbelievers to disregard this stop altogether. However, is there a more practical way to view this step? In this episode Angela and John take a secular view of a step which is essentially the experience of making a decision or commitment to change.

Episode 123: Joe C. at the KC Secular AA Anniversary Celebration

Episode 122: Step Two

Angela and John respond to listener email and then have a conversation about Step Two. In its original form, Step Two reads, "came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity." In everyday language, one might say, "I can stop drinking and have a decent life." It is essentially the experience finding hope that sobriety is possible, but acknowledging that it will require resources beyond one's own to achieve.

Benn B. and John S. bring their own experiences as recovering people into the conversation.

Episode 119: The First Step

In this episode, Angela B. and John S. discuss the first step in the recovery process, which for many of us is whatever happened that helped us escape the grip of denial, admit we had a problem with alcohol and to seek help. Angela and John go into more detail about Step One and the principles behind it, while covering a few other topics along the way.
