Join Ivy and special guest, legendary record collector and world’s biggest Jimmie Rodgers fan, Joe Bussard, for a remembrance of the life and music of the Singing Brakeman on the 85 anniversary of his death. Jimmie Rodgers was one of the greatest and most important voices in the history of country music, his 1927 recording of Blue Yodel for Victor records selling over 12 million copies.
1. I’ve Endured
As I was making this show I learned that Hubert Cooke, one half of famed gospel singers the Cooke Duet, had died. He spent over 60 years traveling this country ministering and singing honest-to-goodness coutry gospel with his wife Jeanette, and subequently their children. Please accept this small tribute to a wonderful life in music.
Lots of good ol’ gospel in this week’s episode: Joe Franklin the Friendly Farm Boy and His Mimosa Quartet, Tennessee Harmony Boys, the only issued recording of the Tennessee Hill Billy with Ruth and Leo West and lots more. Tune in and get right.
More good ol’ gospel coming your way this week on “An Old Revival Meeting.” Getting to answer some great requests and meeting listeners is a real treat. Why don’t you get in touch? Write me a letter: PO Box 6114 Mount Airy, NC 27030 Happy Thanksgiving!
