This episode is Part Two of my recent conversation with Ginger Passarelli from the Soup Ladies. Today we have the return of another fan favorite, Ginger Passarelli of the Soup Ladies. For the last couple of years she has been working with the Border Patrol, which is no small feat to bring a non-profit organization into the inner workings of a Federal agency. In this part of the interview Ginger talks specifically about her work to help encourage the Border Patrol agents with love and good food. Today we're talking to Captain Jeff Keck, a North Texas police officer with about 25 years of experience. Jeff and I were talking recently about podcast topics that cops really need to hear and he said a phrase that caught my ear. He said, "from my own experience cops shouldn't always bottle things up." My response was, "oooh, that dog'll hunt!" Police officers are encouraged, both directly and indirectly, to bottle up their emotions, and that rarely turns out well. Well, Jeff had some firsthand experience breaking through that barrier, which is especially difficult when you've spent a couple decades convincing yourself that you're "just fine." Today we're going to take a brief look a the 1933 Kansas City Massacre at Union Station. There is so much to learn by studying criminals and law enforcement from over 90 years ago, and this particular story is a doozy. It touches on half a dozen cities and towns in as many states, involving a couple dozen people, some with personal or criminal connections, and some with no connection at all, who conspire to commit a crime, resulting in a bloody shootout, that fundamentally shapes the modern FBI. The United States has a long history of first generation immigrants filling the roles of first responders, both police and fire. As long as there has been police and fire stations, there have been uniformed personnel with a bit of a foreign accent. So I wanted to bring you a modern example of someone who was born in a foreign country and immigrated here, overcoming language and cultural barriers . Today we're talking to Violeta Magee who immigrated with her family from the former Yugoslavia.
