The condition of women in the western world has drastically improved in the past 100 years. Women acquired the rights to vote, divorce, get birth control prescriptions and even an abortion. Most women can choose to be economically independent and have successful careers. However, the culture and society are adapting to these changes very slowly, and modern women are stuck between the old role models conventionally offered by society and the new potentials for having fulfilling lives different from what they could have had in the past.
Modern Cinderellas stems from the personal experience of the hosts to discuss the new ways in which modern women can find happiness and fulfillment, the joys and difficulties of doing something different, the obstacles created by social pressures, the challenges of maintaining the positive aspects of womanhood in a male-dominated society. Modern Cinderellas hopes inspire and support women who don’t want to settle for the old models, who want to live by their own rules, who are not willing to wait for someone to find their lost shoe, but are ready to go and find it themselves, put it on and go walk their own path to happiness.

How to build your self-esteem

In this episode Elide and Sanny talk about self-esteem.
What is self-esteem? In simple words, self-esteem measures how much you like yourself. If you think you are cool, we can say you have high self-esteem. Otherwise you have low self-esteem.
Having self-esteem is very important to reach your goals in life, because if you don’t believe in yourself, who is going to do it? And if you don’t believe you are good enough, how can you reach your dreams?
So we need to learn to believe more in ourselves, but how do we do it? One of the secrets is to be a person you admire. The more we align who we are with the person we are meant to be, the easier it will be to believe in ourselves!
It is not easy but don’t worry, Elide and Sanny have a lot of simple steps you can take to become the person you want to be.

The Joys of Single Life

In today’s episode Elide and Sanny discuss a topic that is particularly important for Elide: how to be happily single in a world that tells you that the only way to be happy is within a traditional romantic relationship.
For Modern Cinderellas this is a very important topic because there is a great risk in presenting a one-size-fits all model of relationship happiness, and it is the risk that women will rather be in an unhappy relationship than being single, because they think that being single means being unhappy. But this is not true and Elide is the living proof. She has been single most of her adult life and she is living her dream life without any intention to get into a relationship for at least the next 20 years. But the reality is that there are not many role models showing women how a single-and-happy adult life looks like, so it is hard to consider this option as a life choice.
Elide and Sanny go on giving five advice to women who want to try to live the happy single life:
1.Forget about social pressure. You have just one life to live, don’t do what other people tell you to do if does not truly make you happy.
2.Listen to your own voice. Try really to understand what is that you want and what makes you happy independently from anyone else.
3.Don’t be scared because you are stronger than what you think. Being single can be overwhelming at the beginning because you have to do a lot of difficult things by yourself. But the more you do them, the more you learn and the stronger you become. Fear was built within us to protect us, but it is just a thing. Fear doesn’t hurt us and the more we do things we are scared about and we succeed, the more we learn to overcome fear and live the life we want.
4.Building your own confidence. Society is still telling us that women’s worth depends on the attention they get from men. It tells us that single women are not single because they want to be, they are single only because they are not good enough for a man. So if you want to be happily single you need to really build your confidence, and realize you are worthy and amazing not because men like you, but because of who you are. Society love to shame strong and independent women because we have so much power. Don’t let it take away your power.
5.We all need love, but there is love outside of a romantic relationship. Love can come fro your friends and family, but especially it needs to come from within you. So don’t be scared to love yourself as you are.
And final advice: happiness start within yourself
