How he met Altovise and his move to live with a new family after being abused as child. He also talks about the good days and the not so good days after the passing of his mother and father and how he is now in charge of the estate. He recently had a birthday and is still working on projects that will keep the legacy of Sammy Davis alive.

Eugenia Foxworth sits down with, Mark Pendergrass, CEA founder and executive director, was leading class that day. “We all made it a teachable moment,” he said. This was an opportunity to put CEA’s mission — to educate and mentor youth by providing opportunities of exposure to artistic expression — into action. Pendergrass started the organization with an emphasis on photography, but it has evolved over time to include other art forms. “We’ve tapped into teaching journalism,” he said. “There’s a writing component now. And we recently got into videography and filmmaking.” Mark is extremely proud of the new documentary and coffee table book, Behind The Ink, which is also a program which was developed to educate, teach and give students. an outlet to express themselves. “Behind the Ink” features stories of people across the Carolinas. Former NBA player and Charlotte native Anthony Morrow guides viewers through the film. The documentary highlights Fedelina Heredia, a woman from the Dominican Republic on her journey to her first tattoo. She shares the negative connotation tattoos have in her native country, but now can get one in the United States. Morrow takes her to tattoo artist Crystana “Dutchess” Lattimore, who owns Pretty-N-Ink, attended North Carolina A&T State University and was a cast member on VH1’s “Black Ink Crew.” Lattimore is another familiar face in the “Inked” series.

Alfred speaks on the changes in dance and broadway and how opportunities for young black dancers have changed dramatically over time and how dance has increased in television productions as well as music videos. As a Dancer Alfred has performed with Pepsi Bethel Authentic Jazz Dance Theater, Alvin Ailey Dance Center Workshop, Fred Benjamin Dance Company, Nanette Bearden Contemporary Dance Company, Otis Salid New Arts Ensemble and guest artist with the Munakata Jazz Dance Company in Japan. He was a featured performer of the National Touring Company of the Tony Award winning musical of THE WIZ!

Souleo and Lavett Ballard stopped by to chat with host, Eugenia Foxworth of The Foxworth Theory about the new art on display in Newark at the Dionne Warwick: Queen of Twitter Exhibit. Yes, Dionne is at it again and she as usual is a hit with twitter and young movers and shakers of the internet, who seem to go viral each time she tweets something. Dionne Warwick: Queen of Twitter is an art exhibition inspired by a single Twitter account user: @DionneWarwick. In 2020, the legendary entertainer’s account went viral and was covered by major media outlets. Her commentary–on everything from perplexing celebrity stage names (yes, we’re looking at you, The Weeknd and Chance the Rapper) to social justice issues–has offered laughs, wisdom, and comfort for an intergenerational audience during the Covid-19 pandemic and civil unrest. In this exhibition, artists have created specially commissioned works referencing the humorous, sassy, profound, and inspirational tweets by Ms. Warwick. The works range from site-specific installations to mixed media pieces exploring Ms. Warwick’s social justice and spiritual background and that sharp wit that makes her everyone’s favorite “Auntie.” Accompanying these works is an intimate selection of archival material spotlighting her illustrious and groundbreaking career. The exhibit has been extended.

The fact that he also has real human frailties make him greater than is realized by those who are not able to see through the fog of adulation. His human experience transcends into an emotional confluence felt by every being that adorns his designs. Having been a model himself, he was first discovered at the iconic nightclub “The Tunnel” by Rae Dawn Chong who invited him to walk for Thierry Mugler’s couture show in Paris.
