Now Is Your Time To Stand Up

12/17/2019
Everyday I see messages telling me how I should live, what car I should drive, how I should dress, look, talk etc. At work, my job tells me how to be a good employee. My friends and family tell me to fix those things they believe will make me happy. Many of these messages may be well meaning. But the truth of the matter is, it’s someone else’s view. Everyone has their own truth; their own belief as to how one should live life. Sometimes we allow others to tell us what that life should be or when we should be or who we should be. What do you want? How do you want to live your life? Today is your time to stand up for the life you want. You’ve been working on goals you made earlier and perhaps you’ve not made the progress you wanted. This is not the time to quit. It is the time to keep moving; to stand up for you.

Rethink Everything! Challenging Our Habits and Assumptions

11/12/2019
This is the time of year that’s filled with thoughts of days gone by. We think about the things that we used to do in our youth over the holidays. Those we’re happy times for most of us. Those were times when we were together with our families and friends sharing food, laughter, and good cheer! It’s good to look back and reflect on how things used to be. But let’s not get stuck in the past because we can’t go back we can only move forward. So what do I propose we do this time of year when we are giving thanks, giving to others; where we are being more empathetic to the human condition? Let’s start with ourselves. Let’s have the courage to change at least one thing that would make our lives better. Let’s commit to do something this holiday season we have not done before. Let’s check our assumptions at the door. Let’s put our technology on pause and reach out and talk with someone who makes you feel good. This we should do for ourselves; we are worth it. And this is only the beginning

Yes, Let's Fix The Women!

10/29/2019
Picture this… A group of businessmen sitting around the table in the board room of a large company discussing why they don’t have more women at the executive level. “Why don’t we have any women who are ready to move into our top roles?, one asks. In this company there are approximately 80 leadership or executive roles within the company. Only three women hold leadership roles in the company and they were hired from the outside. As they look at the succession plan for the next five years, they noticed that there are absolutely no women identified in the pipeline. “How could that be?, asked one executive. “Our company is 60% women. Why don’t we have more women trying to move into our leadership roles? I know we have leadership training available.” “What’s wrong with the women and how do we fix them?” So they hire a consultant to help them fix the problem with women. Join Karla, as she discusses what the problem with the women is and some real solutions.

Embracing Life's Changes

10/22/2019
We live in a world that’s constantly changing. We watched our parents go to work, come home, take care of the family, go to bed and repeat the same routine at least five days out of the week. We also heard our parents complain about their job that they went to every day. Some parents worked two jobs just to make ends meet. They worked so hard to make sure that the families had whatever they needed. And we grew up doing the same thing as our parents. Many parents worked at the same job for 25 years or more. We rarely see that type of loyalty to an employer anymore. Today we are less likely to stay in a job that make we don’t like. There are so many other options. We don’t feel the need to stay with one employer, if there is little to no job satisfaction or it doesn’t fit with our lifestyles. So we find ourselves changing jobs, careers, locations, etc. in pursuit of a better life. Join Karla as she discusses changing jobs, careers, and changing our lives for the better.

Managing the boogeyman - Stress!

10/15/2019
We all get a little stressed now and then. The triggers will vary—you’re running late, you’ve got an important meeting with your boss, you’re caught in a severe storm, you’ve put off doing something and it’s due tomorrow, you’ve had an argument, etc. How we react to the stressor or stressors will determine its impact on our body, mind, and spirit. A little stress is good for us. It keeps us alert, lets us know we are alive. It can also motivate us to get going, to get started, or ignite a new idea. The problem comes when we have neglected the stress, and it builds up, impacting our bodies, our minds, and yes, our spirits. Karla discusses this “boogeyman” and how we can manage him to keep ourselves healthy and happy.

Body Positivity, Body Image

10/8/2019
Everyday when I look in the mirror, I look for that 25 year old version of myself. There are days I see her — tall, athletic, slim, lots of hair, smiling back at me. And then there are days that I look and wonder where did she go and who’s body is that I’m looking at. This body is a little older, a little flabbier, a little less hair, but almost the same hairdo (not sure what that’s about?), and so on. In my head, I’m still that 25 year old. But my body tells me I’m not 25 anymore. And that’s okay. Everyone changes over time and the important thing is how you have lives your life. So, what’s feeding the insecurities, the negativity feelings about how we look, our age, how we move now versus when we were young? What does this have to do with body image? What can you do to have a better body image? Join Karla as she shares her insights about having a healthy body image. Feedback: A Gift That Costs You Nothing

10/1/2019
Technology has made it much easier for us to be able to communicate with one another at any given moment. How we communicate with each other is as important as what we communicate with each other. Today we are flooded with instant images that tell a story, show emotions, and more. At any given moment, is it possible to receive communications from hundreds and sometimes thousands of people whether we ask for it or not. Good, bad, or ugly, it is all some form of feedback. We have received feedback every day of our life. Somethings we were happy to hear on over tell how well you doing how do you help someone else does not make us feel good inside make us want to do my make it wanted to better. And of course there are things that we never wanted to hear about ourselves, such as how a behavior has negatively impacted someone else. So much information, but what do we do with it? How do utilize this feedback to make our lives better? Join Karla as she discusses the importance of feedback.
