How to involve all of your employees in your recruiting
10/6/2024
Brigadier General Christopher Amrhein of the U.S. Air Force is our guest today. The conversation flies by (pun intended) as Gen. Amrhein shares data regarding the numbers engaged, interviewed, and "hired"; improvements to the process; and examples of how everyone plays an important part. This episode was even more meaningful to cohost Jeanette Leeds as her grandfather, Dr. Leonard Leeds, was a major in the Air Force, served in England during WWII, and flew missions over Germany. Our other cohost, Steven Rothberg of College Recruiter, grew up in Canada and immigrated as an adult to the U.S., so the discussion of accelerating naturalized citizenship particularly resonated with him.

How programmatic job ads help high volume hiring
9/22/2024
Programmatic advertising is nothing more than computers instead of people making decisions about what ads to run when and for how much money. Typically, humans used to (and often still do) decide that an ad for an engineer in Dallas should run on job boards A, B, and Z from a certain date until a certain date and with a cost-per-click (CPC) of $X. With programmatic, the machines make those decisions. Today's guest, Kenny Wright of Advantage.ai, walks us through the accidental creation of the company and explains the benefits of programmatic advertising for employers who are hiring at scale. Spoiler alert: the benefits vary, just as the needs and wants of the employers vary. Our cohosts, Steven Rothberg of College Recruiter and Jeanette Leeds are big fans of programmatic job ad buying, especially when used by employers with high-volume hiring needs.

Scaling interactive, recruitment marketing, social media campaigns
9/5/2024
A key to a successful recruitment advertising campaign is getting the right opportunity in front of the right candidate at the right time. But what if the right candidate isn't actively searching for a job, or isn't using the media that you're using? Today's guest, Sam Beiler of Boostpoint, comes at the problem with an unusual approach: instead of trying to force these candidates to find and apply through traditional sources like job boards or LinkedIn, reach them in an efficient, effective manner through Facebook, Instagram, and even TikTok. Our cohosts, Steven Rothberg of College Recruiter and Jeanette Leeds find out from Sam the surprising answer that explains why they're not currently working with LinkedIn, what campaigns work well on social, and how one advertiser gets 10 times as many hires as another by better understanding how to market their high volume roles on social media sites.

How to hire, reward, and advance employees fairly and consistently
8/22/2024
We believe that the vast majority of employers, especially the larger ones that do the bulk of high-volume hiring, want to pay, reward, and advance their employees fairly and consistently. But how do they know what fair is, and how do they communicate that to their employees? Join Cohosts Steven Rothberg of College Recruiter and Jeanette Leeds as they interview Nancy Romanyshyn of Syndio, which builds expert-backed technology that helps companies measure, achieve, and sustain workplace equity. And thank you to our sponsor, idibu, for providing many of the world's leading employers with software that allows employers to distribute jobs from their ATS to their favorite job boards with just a few clicks. How to make AI-assisted hiring systems more humane
8/8/2024
If you love listening in on conversations that blow your mind due to something brilliant said, then you're going to love this episode. Katrina Kibben of Three Ears Media joins cohosts Steven Rothberg of College Recruiter and Jeanette Leeds. Kat is, without a doubt, a brilliant recruitment marketer, including but not at all limited to writing effective job posting ads. Why? Plenty of reasons, but chief among them is that Kat knows what questions to ask and then really knows how to listen not just to the answers, but to specific parts of the answers. By the end of today's episode, sponsored by job distributor idibu, you'll understand that AI-generated job posting ads are no better than copying and pasting a posting for a similar job offered by another employer and, more importantly, what a better approach is. Is Workday liable for discrimination if its ranks candidates?
8/2/2024
There's been a lot of talk in the TA tech space about the Mobley vs Workday lawsuit. Mobley, a Black man, alleges that he was discriminated against by Workday's AI-powered ranking system as it caused him to be rejected by 100+ employers who use the Workday ATS. Cohosts Steven Rothberg of College Recruiter and Jeanette Leeds are joined for this special episode by John Sumser, VP of Marketing for Salary.com and one of the world's foremost experts in AI for HR tech, and Heather Bussing, an employment lawyer, law professor, analyst, writer, editor, and author of the book, "Get Pay Right: How to Achieve Pay Equity that Works" Do all ATS rank candidates so some are effectively or actually rejected by the software? No, but some do. Does that create legal liability for the employer and TA tech vendor? Possibly. Is the lawsuit and the position taken on it by the EEOC the end of the story? Probably not, as it seems to be only the beginning.

Are generative AI powered voice agents the future of recruiting?
7/25/2024
David Tell, the Co-Founder of Kwal, joins Cohosts Steven Rothberg of College Recruiter and Jeanette Leeds to learn more about generative, artificial intelligence, voice agents and how they can save employers time and money by allowing them to interact, by phone, with thousands of candidates in a personalized manner. One use case is hiring for call centers, as those customer service representatives need to be comfortable speaking on the phone, but David also shares with us other industries where the tech has met with success including construction and even nursing. Big thanks for our sponsor, idibu, for helping to make this and other episodes possible. If you're hiring a lot and therefore likely advertising a lot, you're going to want to check out idibu's ability to automate the distribution of your jobs from your ATS to just about every major job board. Making new hires feel special when they are being onboarded
7/11/2024
Cohosts Steven Rothberg of College Recruiter and Jeanette Leeds are joined today by Alex Cramer, Vice President of People and Places for Enable, a B2B, rebates, management company. Enable has about 700 employees in five countries and 23 U.S. states. And it also has one of the most thoughtful and powerful onboarding programs that our cohosts have heard about. The success of their program isn't an accident and has required a lot of effort, but it is also a key to their culture, the success of their employees, and the success of their business. Join us as we talk about how to make every hire feel special right from their first moment as an employee, even if that first moment is shared by dozens of other new employees. Can conversational AI speed your hiring from months to days?
6/27/2024
Industry veteran and thought leader, Adam Godson, joins us today to talk about how conversational AI -- essentially smart chatbots -- is massively improving the hiring process for those on both sides of the process. Adam is the CEO of Paradox, whose clients include many of the world's most prominent brands, including McDonald's. Together with Adam, Cohosts Steven Rothberg of College Recruiter and Jeanette Leeds talk about some of the biggest benefits of using software to automate many of the most time-consuming tasks in recruitment such as scheduling interviews as well as the paradox that the use of good software to do that actually increases the amount of time that the humans in the process can spend with each other to ensure that the best candidates are hired into the best jobs. Innovative, volume hiring success stories from The Netherlands
6/13/2024
Cohosts Steven Rothberg of College Recruiter and Jeanette Leeds are joined today by the one and only Bas van de Haterd, who calls himself a professional snoop and shares with us two of the coolest, high-volume hiring efforts that he's seen in The Netherlands. One involves a recruitment program for a retail pharmacy with locations practically around the corner from every household. They're now hiring people in pairs instead of one at a time. The second involves the Dutch postal service, which determined exactly what made a postal delivery person a "quality" hire, accidentally discovered that the local hiring managers measured that differently, and then rolled out nationally the measure that best represented quality. Oh, and along the way, Bas shares with us a little advice from the book that he recently coauthored with Kevin Wheeler, Talent Acquisition Intelligence. Are AI hiring systems legally compliant and morally justified?
5/30/2024
In an episode that Cohosts Steven Rothberg of College Recruiter and Jeanette Leeds will long remember, we're joined by Hilke Schellman, Professor of Journalism at New York University and author of The Algorithm. Hilke's book, which reads like a novel, makes the case that technology in the world of hiring is often a very good thing, including some of the new uses of artificial intelligence. But that doesn't mean that all products are well-designed. Some are based on nothing more than pseudoscience, despite the claims from the vendors saying otherwise. As a buyer of HR tech, what questions should you be asking? What risks do you face if you don't? How the FTC's ban of non-competes will impact high volume hiring
5/16/2024
Our illustrious Cohost, Jeanette Leeds, decided that a trip to Las Vegas was important but apparently didn't communicate to her airline the importance of that flight leaving on time. Sadly, instead of joining us from Sin City, Jeanette was unable to join for today's episode as she's at about 35,000 feet. Our other Cohost, Steven Rothberg of College Recruiter, was joined by Kate Bischoff of k8bisch LLC. She's one of those rare people who is both an expert in matters related to human resources as well as employment law. Who better to explain the potentially game-changing rules related to the Federal Trade Commission's new rule that promises to eliminate non-competes? Or are those changes even game-changing at all? Or even going to happen at all? Podcast home page: https://www2.CollegeRecruiter.com/ Host: Steven Rothberg of College Recruiter job search site / stevenrothberg

How do you measure engagement and mandate outcome / progress?
5/2/2024
One of the most common traits that organizations that hire at scale share is high turnover. They hire a lot because they lose a lot of employees to voluntary and even involuntary terminations. But are we powerless to reduce that turnover? And, if not, how do we reduce that turnover so that we can improve the productivity of each employee and our entire workforces? Today's guest, Torin Ellis of The Torin Ellis Brand, brings not just the answers but also the inspiration. He's a master communicator who not only has a way with words, but whose words have real substance. Pull up a chair and join our Cohosts, Jeanette Leeds of AMS and Steven Rothberg of College Recruiter job search site, as they soak up a taste of Torin's wisdom. Can recruiter enablement really save recruiters 64 minutes per day?
4/18/2024
Adam Gordon is the Co-Founder of Poetry, a start-up based in Glasgow, Scotland. Poetry is a recruiter enablement platform that allows recruiters to share brand assets like logos and other graphics, job posting templates, and onboarding and other documents. Instead of each hunting around for what they need, Poetry puts all at their fingertips. The result? Massive time savings for high volume and other recruiting teams. Our Cohosts, Jeanette Leeds of AMS and Steven Rothberg of College Recruiter, found Adam's newest venture to be compelling. An even better descriptor? A force multiplier. The more things change, well, the more things change. We're joined this week by Andrew Horibe of Mitratech for a conversation that is fun, informative, and, at times, delicious. And if you're wondering why delicious, you'll understand if you watch. Cohosts Jeanette Leeds of AMS and Steven Rothberg of College Recruiter share some of their own thoughts about the struggles that HR is facing, particularly in high-volume recruitment environments, and agree with Andrew that the change we're all experiencing is only accelerating and yet may be liberating to those who want to produce better work, faster. How scaling interviews by humans helps high volume hiring
3/21/2024
Historically, humans worked for ourselves, families, or neighbors. We didn't apply to jobs because we already knew our employers and they knew us. Today, employers are buried under mountains of digital applications. Instead of fixing the problem, we've largely opted for technical patches that dehumanize hiring and create barriers between those hiring and being interviewed. Vette hopes to change that by creating an Uber-like system that allows employers to instantly scale up and down the number of interviewers they have. Applicants are phone screened within minutes. Recruiters can then focus on interviewing only the qualified, which allows that to happen far faster and that leads to far better application-to-hire rates, which massively decreases the costs of hiring. Our Cohosts, Jeannette Leeds of AMS and Steven Rothberg of College Recruiter, are joined for this episode by their guest, Amber Wanner of Vette. Using digital capabilities and analytics to improve recruitment
3/7/2024

Kevin Wheeler of The Future of Talent Institute is a true student of talent, recruitment, how those work, and how those could work better in organizations of all sizes, types, and locations. Kevin and Netherlands-based Bas van de Haterd just published, "Talent Acquisition Excellence: Using Digital Capabilities and Analytics to Improve Recruitment" and, in today's interview, Kevin shares some of its key takeaways. One female founder's journey in starting up an HR tech company
2/22/2024
Sometimes, the pain that we experience in our professional lives pays dividends. Today's guest, Ahva Sadeghi took some of the pain that she and all of us have experienced in finding and starting a new job and channeled that into an HR tech start-up that massively improves the experience of bringing on a new employee, both for that employee and the employer. Symba's solution largely sits in between the offer and start dates which, for college students and recent graduates, can easily be six or more months. But even if your employees typically start within days or weeks of receiving an offer, the same problem exists: what to expect on day one. Join Cohosts Jeanette Leeds of AMS and Steven Rothberg of College Recruiter as they learn about Ahva's impressive background, Symba's mission, and even share some of their own early professional experiences. Are your disconnected TA systems killing your hiring?
1/18/2024
For all the benefits that job boards and ATS can bring to talent acquisition, it can be maddening how disconnected many of them are. Enter JobSync. JobSync automates the integration of employers’ ATSs and the job sites they use, resulting in 2-5x fully completed applications, improving the applicant and candidate experience, and eliminating hours of wasted recruiters’ time from manual tasks every day. It would be fun to pretend that JobSync does all of that through the use of black magic. Sadly but fortunately, the truth is that it is the product of some of the smartest and most thoughtful industry veterans coupled with really, really good tech.
