Your Family Can Fly For FREE and Other Travel Points Hacks with Lyn Mettler

3/27/2024
In this episode, we’re talking about one of my favorite topics: How to use travel rewards to fly and stay for free. Our guest, Lyn Mettler, discovered in 2015 a way for her family of 4 to use travel rewards to always fly for free. Today, she teaches hundreds of families her simple system through FamiliesTravelFree.com. She thinks she’s saved around $75,000 using her simple point system over the years. That’s some serious cash if you ask me. We talk about it all in this episode, including how to get you to as many places as possible and bring as many people with you for as few points as possible; instead of credit card hacking, you will get an understanding of the right card to put your everyday spending on, why she’s a huge fan of the SouthWest companion pass, and Lyn’s signature tips to save on HALF your next Disney trip. If this is your year to travel, but you’d like to spend as little money as possible, this episode is for you. In fact, you’re going to want to share it with everyone you know because the tips are right on the money. Links Families Fly Free website Thank you for being a part of our community! How to Self-Coach Yourself Through Money Problems with Dielle Charon

3/18/2024
What if your thoughts create your results? That’s a powerful question for me. I’ve had a life-long relationship with negative thinking and creating my own money drama. It’s easy for me to think of something positive, but right behind it is a nagging negative thought - what if it doesn’t work out? What if I’m not good enough? What if it all falls apart? Do I really deserve this, etc.? Here’s the kicker, though, as our guest Dielle Charon, certified life coach 7, figure sales expert, and host of the Black, Banked, and Booked out Podcast says - you’ve first got to have the courage even to put that big thought in your brain and help self-coach yourself to success. Now, Dielle is an entrepreneur powerhouse, and we start out the conversation by talking about her strong belief that entrepreneurship is the key to emancipation and why this matters. But whether you’re an entrepreneur, a 9-5 ‘er, or a stay-at-home parent, you’re going to find a lot of life-changing advice in this vault episode, including how to simplify your thoughts around money, the keys to self-coaching yourself, common money mindset blocks, 5 money questions to ask yourself right now, and ways to have both a profitable side hustle and a 9 to 5 job with ease, if that’s your jam. As controversial as they might be, if you're thinking about a prenup or a postnup, the first place you should start is getting some education about these hot-button documents. Jennifer Guimond-Quigley is joining us on this episode to demystify what you need to know about prenups and break down the differences between postnups in a fun and easily digestible way (no crazy lawyer speak here, just a totally educational and enjoyable conversation). Revamp Your Wealth: How to Break Free from Money Beliefs Holding You Back with Joe Saul-Sehy and Jordan Grumet

3/6/2024
Have you ever said to yourself, “It’s too late for me to learn about money. I’ll never know enough to get ahead.” or, “I’ve made too many mistakes, I’ll always be in debt,” or “If I just made more money, I’d be a lot happier.” These are very common beliefs that we share about money. Just the other day, I was having a conversation with a friend, and she said, “Shannah, I’m just tired. I’m in my 40s, and I haven’t saved enough money; I feel like a real failure,” so she inspired this episode because I think it’s time we talk about these money beliefs that hold us back. One of the things I love the most about hosting this show for the last nine years is getting to make some really great friends who also host equally amazing money podcasts and bringing them together to talk about money topics that I know are top of mind for you, like this episode. Jordan Grumet, aka Doc G., host of the Earn and Invest podcast, and Joe Saul-Sehy, host of The Stacking Benjamins Show, are joining me to shatter these common money beliefs so they can no longer hold you back from reaching your goals. We're talking about a topic that's not just about numbers; it's about people, fairness, and understanding. That's right, we're talking about pay transparency. Ever wondered how this simple concept can make your work life better? Our guest, Hannah Williams, the creator of the viral sensation Salary Transparent Street, has been hitting the streets asking strangers to share what they do and how much they make. I’m a huge fan of Hannah’s, and I know you’ll be, too, after our conversation. We'll explore on this vault episode how pay transparency can help shrink the wage gap, create a happier workplace, and promote fairness. Saving Money Tips to Reach Your Goals: Ask Shannah

2/23/2024
In this Ask Shannah episode, I’m covering some of my favorite tips to save money inspired by a question from Brett. This question comes from Brett – "Hi, Shannah, thanks for taking the time to answer my question. I’ve listened to this show since 2016, and even though you’ve changed it up over the years, it’s still one of my favorites. There are a lot of dude money podcasts, but I really like a softer approach and one that feels very non-judgmental. So thank you. I’m in my late 30s and doing pretty well financially, but I always seem to end the month without being able to save a lot of money. Am I doing something wrong? Can you give me any ideas of how much I save and any tips or tricks that you have to save money every month? Thanks a ton.” Thank you for being a part of our community! We couldn't do it without you. How to Build the Habit of Giving & Close the Generosity Gap with Adam Nash

2/20/2024
How often have you told yourself, “Self, I should be giving money to more needy people. Yes, I really should.” Only to follow that up with, welp, another month went by, and I didn’t give anything. Now I feel bad about myself. Look, let me let you off the hook here. The idea of giving and that your life shouldn’t be selfish is pretty universal. I think we can all agree that we feel some sort of moral obligation to give our money and time to help others. But as our guest, Adam Nash, CEO and co-founder of Daffy, a new fintech platform focused on charitable giving, said in the opening, there are two problems that we all face - how do I build giving into my budget and who do I give the money to? This Paradox has an official term - the generosity gap - which says there is this big gap between people who want to give to charity, but life gets in the way, so you end up not giving. This episode is for you if you’ve put Give More to the Causes that are important to you in 2024 on your to-do list. Adam and I talk about how you can create regular charitable contributions with ease, how to connect to organizations you want to give to, and some clever ways charitable giving can help you at tax time. Loud Budgeting: Should You Publicly Announce Your Money Goals

2/16/2024
In recent weeks, this term, loud budgeting has made its way into the mainstream conversation. So, which camp are you in - shouting loudly about your money goals, or would you rather keep them to yourself? I think we need to talk about it. It’s Friday, and typically, I answer an Ask Shannah question, but this week, something came to my attention that I thought we should talk about instead. So many of you have sent in questions about budgeting, how to do it, how to make it work, and also some questions about how to manage the fears around budgeting - what if you go over budget and someone knows about it or judges you or shames you for how you spend your money. I’m glad you feel safe enough to share those thoughts with me. Money is emotional, and in everyday society, it doesn’t feel safe to talk about those emotions - maybe you don’t even correlate those feelings you have with the underlying cause - money. So that brings us to this idea of loud budgeting. It’s certainly a catchy phrase, but what does it mean, and will it work for you? Happy Couples: The Art of Balancing Romance and Money with Doug and Heather Boneparth

2/14/2024
Ah, love and money - since it’s the Month of Love, we need to talk about it. Love and money are complicated things that bring up so many different emotions and feelings that are very real. You know what I'm talking about if you’ve ever been in a relationship. And look, even if you don’t talk about money with your partner or keep separate bank accounts, those feelings are still simmering under the surface. That’s where my two friends, Heather and Doug Boneparth, come in. Yep, a couple who talks about money for a living. Doug is a CFP and founder of Bone Fide Wealth. You may recognize him from CNBC and countless articles in popular publications. Heather, his wife, is a “celebrity” in her own right as a writer and former corporate attorney who now runs business and legal affairs for their company. She and Doug have joined forces to create their popular newsletter, The Joint Account, and are working on a second book, navigating the power struggle over money in relationships. In this episode, we collectively roll up our sleeves to have a fun and insightful conversation about how to practically navigate these power struggles and dive deep into some of the most common issues couples have around money, like what to do if one partner wants to splurge on something and the other is admittedly against it. Been there and done that one. If you’re in a relationship or looking to get into one, this episode is just what the Love Dr. ordered.
