Welcome! On today's podcast, we have Professor Ekant Veer. Ekant is a Professor of Marketing at the University of Canterbury. He is just one of those people you meet and instantly get good vibes from. Despite his rapid rise from completing his PhD to becoming a full-fledged Professor, he remains exceptionally humble. In today's episode, we discuss various topics, including how he built a successful international career, navigating the academic promotion cycles, and what it means to be a great supervisor. We, of course, talk about many other cool things along the way, too. Ekant discusses one of his most recent academic papers, which involves why people watch user-generated content. We gain valuable insights into what usually is just a written form of communication - a real treat for us and something I've enjoyed. He'll give us a few book recommendations and some life advice that will really hit home. Simona had the displeasure as having me as her lecturer and course coordinator for a marketing strategy course at the University of South Australia, but by that point her career was well and truly underway! You will be able to hear about how she landed her first roles within industry, and the challenges she faces being ambitious, plus all the wonderful things happening at RAA.
