The Legacy of Brian Mulroney

3/6/2024
Today, we're delving into the legacy of former Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney with Stuart Murray, who shares firsthand memories from Mulroney's 1984 election campaign. We discuss Mulroney's leadership, his efforts to unite Canada, and the controversies surrounding his government's decisions. Despite criticism, Mulroney was known for bold thinking, evidenced by his free trade agreement with the US and Mexico, which polarized opinions. We also explore Mulroney's personal relationships with global leaders and his post-political advocacy work. Stuart's passion for human rights extends to his vision of Winnipeg as a hub for international human rights education, with the Canadian Museum for Human Rights at its forefront. Ayurvedic Healing

11/22/2023
Angelica Neri is a yoga instructor and Ayurvedic healer, explains that the "monkey mind" is a common limiting belief that can be overcome through spiritual practices like yoga and meditation. She shares that her passion for healing began as a child, with psychic experiences that she didn't understand until later in life. In this episode, Angelica describes Reiki as an ancient energy healing technique that can break up energetic blockages and connect to intuition. She shares her personal experience with intuition from a young age, valuing it as the highest form of intelligence and inner knowing that can't be found in books or learning from others. Angelica's intuition as a strong feeling that can't be explained logically, but is often felt in the gut or body. Matt gets curious about Kundalini yoga and its effects on emotions. Kundalini's energy as a serpent that lives at the base of our spine, representing transformation and intuition, Angelica says Kundalini yoga can activate this energy and clear out old patterns, awakening intuition. Angelica digs into the Doshas are made up of three types: pitta, kapha, and vata, each with distinct characteristics and physical features. You can connect with Angelica through her website. Men's Health

11/10/2023
You May Also Like learning a little something about Men's Health. I have invited Mike Sea from the Natural Man Podcast on to the show to discuss some of the subjects he has highlighted on his quest to live better. Over the last year, I have discovered that there are a lot of subjects we are not touching on in our day to day lives when we discuss health. Things like 5G, cell towers, dirty electricity, water quality and pollution are all subject matter you might think is tertiary, but it will slowly come to the forefront as time goes on. So why not get ahead of it now? In this episode, you will hear us discuss the difference between medical systems in Canada and the United States, Mike's personal journey of chronic illness, conventional medical frustration, and eventual holistic healing through functional medicine doctors and self-research, and industrialization's impact on health and technology. We also discuss the benefits of yoga, going barefoot, why you need to distance yourself from dirty electricity, and how to get the right amount of sunlight. The Food In Malaga, Spain

7/28/2023
I'm breaking a rule here by promoting something I adore and risk having it slammed with more people. One of the reasons I love Malaga is that it is just slightly off the Travel Spain hit list for North Americans. Most people hit up Madrid, Barcelona, then Sevilla, Granada and Cordoba or San Sebastian to the north. Hanni Martini is a Malaga Food Expert and takes people on food tours in and around the city. In this episode you will pick up on some of the great places to eat in Malaga, and what to eat. We also discuss why there are so many British Ex-pats in the area, the difference between Salmorejo and Porra, and why you need to try the goat. If you would like to connect with Hanni for a food tour, visit her website right here and book a tour. A copy of my favourite places to eat in Spain is here. Also check out the video she did with Spain Revealed's James Blick. Speaking of James - check out the episode we did with him here. Although it is a few years old now - it is still very relevant and full of other Spanish tips and tricks. A Transcription of this episode is available here. Learn more about your ad choices. Alyson Shane: Living Like a Local

5/9/2023
I've turned into a big travel snob. The idea of jetting off to Caribbean or Central America to sit at resort and drink all day feels very... dated. If there is one thing that Anthony Bourdain left behind, it is the idea that food can unite the planet, and being curious and uncomfortable about new thing is okay. I won't even start in on cruises. How they are still a thing after the pandemic is a miracle; or testimony to how lazy we have become as a species. The idea of being trapped on ship with American chefs cooking bad American food while on shore, the Italians have their pasta, and the Spanish their tapas. Alyson Shane loves to travel with her husband John. They have just completed their second trip through Thailand and their first through Japan. One of the things I noticed on her trip was how they made the effort to live (and eat) like a local. A lot of it comes down to where you leave your money behind. Is it a tourist trap? Are you staying at a hotel owned by a foreign corporation? Are you riding public transport? Did you go to Starbucks or the local cafe for your morning coffee? In this episode, Alyson and I swap stories about our recent trips and discuss some of the best ways to travel by living like a local. Alyson runs Starling Social, a company out of Winnipeg, Canada that can help you grown your (online) social reach. Coffee With Genny B

4/11/2023
"Coffee with a friend is like capturing joy in a cup." That's Genny's motto, and if you ask her, she'll tell you there's nothing she loves more than chatting with a friend over a nice hot cup of joe. Genny is the host of Coffee With Genny B, a podcast about life, friendship, relationships, mental health, and of course, coffee. Genny's a bit of a coffee connoisseur- for her 60th birthday, she travelled around Manitoba with the goal of trying 60 different coffee shops in 60 days. She succeeded, of course, and the conversations and experiences she had were a large part of what inspired her to start the podcast. The rest was pure passion. Genny and I speak about how she developed her love of coffee, what her goals are for the podcast, and some of the connections she's made thanks to her involvement in the coffee world. Tobin

3/2/2023
Blame it on Conan O’Brien and Saturday Night Live. Since the age of 16, Bryan Tobin has been in love with Broadcast media. He has had to overcome obstacles along the way including a lesser known disability called Sturge Webber Syndrome which caused him to have a stroke at age 11. He even readily admits that he has moments when his arm goes numb for 20 minutes at a time. Born in Newfoundland, he is the other Bryan Tobin… the first being the former Premier of Newfoundland. Undaunted, Bryan graduated from Carleton University wit a B.A. in Communications and later from Loyalist with a Post Grad Diploma in Sports Journalism and also from Algonquin College with a radio diploma. Ironically, we think Bryan is overqualified for broadcast and is better suited for podcasting. Bryan’s podcast is called Tobin Tonight and he has had some very famous people on his show including Ed The Sock, Bianca Andreescu and the late Bob Saget. The Suicide Club

1/11/2023
This week's guest, Alexandra Wyman, unfortunately lost her husband to suicide in 2020. In the aftermath, she was left with many unanswered questions about how to proceed with her life. Thankfully, she was able to find her own answers, and has since put them into her book, The Suicide Club: What To Do When Someone You Love Chooses Death. The Suicide Club details her path through grief, mourning, and eventually acceptance, including the three distinct phases she feels she went through. It acts as a sort of guide to anyone in a similar situation- a road forward when it seems like there isn't one. It encourages readers to move through anger, blame, and judgement, and find a way to feel at peace again, despite a no doubt incredibly painful loss. Alexandra has also become a public speaker for those struggling in the aftermath of suicide. She's appeared at the Colorado School Counselor Association’s annual conference; the Orthodox Christian Association of Medicine, Psychology, and Religion (OCAMPR) annual conference; and Bridging the Divide Suicide Prevention and Awareness Summit 2022. Spain

12/3/2022
Avery and I love Spain. A few years ago we went to Italy to get our first European experience as a couple and loved Rome and Tuscany. Italy showed us what can happen when fresh ingredients get involved. In 2018, we made our first trip to Spain and found that the Spanish lifestyle of socialization was a little more in line than what we have to deal with in North America. In our perfect world, we would rather go to 5 bars in over 5 nights and meet a few (sometimes new) people, rather than trying to everyone at once at one event on a weekend. The problem with that is it consumes your weekend. We went back to Spain the following year and travelled the north. After 4 weeks in Spain, we still feel we haven't seen everything. When there is nothing on TV, Avery and I watch James Blick's videos as he travels Spain sampling some of the best food in the world. In this episode, I speak to James about his company Devour Tours, and how this Kiwi found to his to Spain to become one of Spain's biggest ambassadors to the Anglophone World. If you are planning a trip to Spain, subscribe to his YouTube channel and his Instagram to get you thinking about how you will spend your time when you get there. And food lovers, James and his team at Devour Tours are on lockdown like the rest of the planet - but that doesn't stop them from connecting you to the food. The company has put together a digital cookbook so you can enjoy Spanish cuisine in your kitchen. Devour Tours hosts events in a number of Spanish cities including Barcelona, Madrid, Seville, and San Sebastian, as well as other European destinations like London, Lisbon, Paris and Rome. Finally, Avery and I have some personal suggestions that we loved and have shared on the blog page of this episode which you can find here. Sugar Sammy

12/1/2022
Sugar Sammy and I connected back in the early part of the millennium in Montreal. He would drop by CHOM for what was supposed to be casual conversation and promotion of his upcoming comedy shows. He was genuinely so funny he would stick around for multiple segments, talking locally... comedically. (That works really well with a radio audience) Since then, Sammy has been one of the hardest working people in comedy. He has conquered markets like Dubai, Lebanon, Paris, and Quebec. Sammy speaks and performs in 4 languages: English, French, Punjabi and Hindi. It has been nearly 10 years since Sammy and I have seen one another. He still might not the first comedian that comes to mind in English Canada or the U.S.A. but the upcoming tour is going to change that. He has a slew of dates ready to roll in the coming months so please register for his e-mail list to find out when he is coming to a locale near you. During this podcast, Sammy made mention of his appearance on CTV's W5 a few years ago. You can watch it on YouTube here. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
