74. ADHD and "All Or Nothing" Thinking - Examples, Effects and How to Manage it.

4/30/2023
This week we're talking about all or nothing thinking. People with ADHD may experience "all or nothing" thinking, also known as "black-and-white" thinking. This is a cognitive distortion where individuals tend to think in extreme terms, seeing situations as either entirely good or entirely bad, with no middle ground. For example, a person with ADHD may think that if they can't complete a task perfectly, then it's not worth doing at all. Or they may view a bad day as a complete failure, ignoring any positive aspects that occurred. This type of thinking can be harmful because it can lead to self-criticism, procrastination, and a lack of motivation. It can also make it difficult to see progress or make small improvements, which can be discouraging. We're going to discuss some examples of the times we've been stuck in the all or nothing thinking mindset and a few useful tips that may help you manage all or nothing thinking if you have ADHD! ADHD can lead to procrastination as we may struggle with focus, organisation, can make it difficult to start and complete tasks. We can struggle with boring or uninteresting tasks and become easily distracted by more stimulating tasks All this makes it challenging to maintain focus over time and leads to procrastination Procrastination can have so many negative consequences. In this episode we talk about the act of delaying or putting off tasks until the last minute and discuss strategies/tips that can help you manage ADHD procrastination. 68. How ADHD Can Effect Your Emotions (Emotional Dsyregulation)

3/19/2023
This week has not been the best week for us, so we thought we'd jump on the mic and talk about how ADHD can effect your emotions. We discuss some of the things that we have over reacted over in the past, how we've felt and what we try to do to help each other. Emotional dysregulation is something that can have a negative impact on your life. Research suggests that emotional dysregulation in individuals with ADHD may be related to impairments in the brain's prefrontal cortex, which is responsible for executive functions like regulating behavior and emotions. Individuals with ADHD may have deficits in these areas, which can contribute to difficulty with emotional regulation.
