Season 3 Episode Three: Establishing Routines in the Classroom and at Home

1/28/2024
Hello! Welcome to the LTF Podcast! I am so glad you're here. In this episode I ramble on about routines; how to establish them and why they matter. This information can be applied to the classroom or at home. This episode is linked to the last episode about independence. Children are always in search of themselves, and who they are in the world, and we often get in their way. Establishing freedom within boundaries via routines will help the child to develop self-awareness, confidence feelings of safety, pride, and community all while building independence too. Routines are not bad! Only those charts and when we hold on to them so tight we refuse to adjust as needed. Thanks for listening! Love, Attachment and Letting Go: What love for your child truly means Season 2 Episode 10

2/5/2023
Love for your child is absolutely something you probably don't ever have to question or think about, right? In this episode I explore the definition of love, the aspect of attachment and how your love for your child could potentially be holding your child back in their development and quest for independence. I explore how our adult mindset and need for control can in fact be hindering our child's growth and possibly impacting our relationship with them. Often times we think that when we protect and provide everything for them, this is the greatest act of love...when in fact letting go...stepping back and guiding them towards independence is truly loving them. This is because when we step back, let go... we are acknowledging the child as an independent individual. We are supporting their future selves. I also give you ideas on how to achieve this level of freedom within boundaries in your own home today! Thanks for tuning in! Find me on Instagram @learningtakesflight

Building Community Min-Series Part 3: Parents and Families

10/23/2022
This episode is part three of my mini-series about building community within a school. This series is for educators and families from a variety of backgrounds. Though my specific field is Montessori education in a small, private school, I truly feel that anyone who works with children in the field of education can benefit from this series. This episode is specifically focused on building community among families within a school. I will share with you the reasons why it is so vital to make an effort to build community and some of the ways that I have learned how to build community within my school. Over my years in the classroom and as the administrator of my school I have witnessed time and time again the benefits of pushing past insecurities, fatigue, doubt, defensiveness and divisiveness to build positive relationships with the parents and families of the children in my care. I have never regretted making the effort and building a bridge between myself, the students, our classroom and their parents or guardians. I hope that you tune in because I am confident you’ll find some useful information and also be reminded that none of us are alone in our effort to improve the lives of children.

Season 2: Episode 4: Montessori in our Speech, Movement, Presence

10/23/2021
Hello Listeners! This week I will share with you the importance of how we move, speak and are when in the presence of children. Our phrasing, body language and what we model is more important than the most beautiful materials, classroom set up or "perfect" lesson. The children will absorb our presence and we will impress upon their young minds how adults are in their presence. Are we someone who will nurture, someone whom they can trust? Or someone who is frazzled or prone to outbursts? It can be exhausting to feel as though you're always "on" so to speak, so how do develop a lifestyle and boundaries for ourselves that allows us to be our best for our children, and what do we do when we make mistakes, have an outburst or lose our cool? Find out on this week's episode what you can do to be your best self with the children in your life, providing them independence, a safe space and modeling how to communicate in a healthy way. I also share my favorite moment of the week, a truly bittersweet one this time. As always, thank you for listening and following.

7/10/2021
This week's episode is very dear to me and one that I truly cannot believe actually happened. This week I was able to sit down with a person who absolutely changed my life. My friend Danica Allen, or Dani to those who know and love her, is one of those people you meet in life who not only change the entire trajectory of your life, give you wisdom and hope but also literal help. She hauled boxes, built furniture, polished floors, painted walls, taught children alongside me, enrolled families, chatted with inspectors and picked me up when I felt I just couldn’t keep going. Along with all of her physical and emotional support, I have been even more fortunate in my chance meeting of Dani. She has stuck with me for all of these years, even though we have lived thousands of miles, oceans and even continents apart. Dani has helped me build two schools, she has inspired me with her experience and knowledge in education, Montessori, parenting and now Special Education. This episode has everything: friendship, heart, advice on how to build a school, teaching in all kinds of schools, homeschooling, military life, the GED, surviving trauma, loving and supporting your children through change and the challenges of diagnosis... and on and on… There is SO MUCH HERE! I just know you’ll be inspired! Oh, and this episode is extra special because Dani and her family are currently living in Germany and they were able to come and visit me in Idaho, and this summer is the ten year anniversary of our journey to build CHMS! As always, thank you for listening! Thank you for your support and thank you for helping me to build this community. Please reach out to me via email at learningtakesflightmontessori@gmail.com if you have any questions for myself or Dani. Here are just a few of the things Dani mentions: “Giving a child choice and voice does not take away your power… it makes you a better human.” “Neuro divergent children should be supported to exist within the society...but not forced to change who they are in order to fit in.” Podcast: Bright and Quirky
