Live from the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland! We are in the middle of a full month's run of This Moment in America at the Edinburgh Fringe. Playing at Underbelly Cowgate at 12:40PM each day (tix at thismomentinamerica.org), this micro episode is a sample from the show. As you'll hear in the intro, this piece was included for two reasons: https://secure.kentucky.gov/FormServices/Finance/EKYFloodReliefthismomentinamerica.org I (Clara) am originally from Chattanooga, a city in the foothills of Appalachia, in East Tennessee. The landscape looks just like those pictures you see of the flood ravaged areas, and I felt compelled to respond to some of the insensitivity and downright meanness that was being directed toward people in the flood affected areas. There's so much to understand about the region, if only we'd be willing to listen - and I'm including myself in that. I'm now an Appalachian expat, so while my level of understanding starts from a different place than those who are not from the region, I am not personally impacted by the floods, nor am I currently living in the region. Is saying goodbye ever easy? In November 2014, the European Space Agency landed a probe on Comet 67P. Known as Philae, this was the primary goal of the Rosetta mission - a 10-year journey from launch to landing. The Philae lander did not anchor into the comet, however, but rather bounced three times, landing in a shaded spot, unable to adequately charge its solar panels. Swamp Witch Studio presents a Night Owl Theatre production This Moment in America: Quarantine Edition A series of 30-second to 6-minute long micro-audio dramas inspired by and featuring the sounds of everyday life of people in quarantine in the USA during the COVID-19 pandemic. Sounds were submitted by listeners over the course of 36 hours in mid-April 2020. This production was commissioned by Louisville Arts Network, in partnership with Lift Up Lou. This Moment in America is a project of Night Owl Theatre to share the perspective of people who live in the nooks and crannies of a vast country that is struggling with its identity in a politically charged time. Night Owl Theatre is an audio drama podcast that seeks to increase our capacity to understand one another through storytelling so that we may grow in empathy and compassion towards our better selves.
