Avengers: Endgame

After an extended hiatus, A/K/A busy at the day job, Mr. Zulueta and I are back with our review of one of the most anticipated movies in the last 10 years-- Avengers: Endgame. We both saw this film and recorded this episode on opening weekend, so you'll have our fresh and unexpurgated take on the film before either of us heard or read any other reviews. Is this film worth the wait? Or was this just a waste of time? SPOILER ALRET: It's definitely not a waste of time (all 3 hours of it),...

In this latest episode of Cinepod Moviecast, Mr. Zulueta and I have a chat about Alfonso Cuarón's Roma, which premiered on Netflix in December 2018, and has gone on to win several awards, including a few Oscars. It's a personal, and gorgeously photographed B&W film which Cuarón shot himself (show-off). Is this film as great as the critics and the awards claim it is? Or is it just artsy nonsense? --Chuck

Spider-Man: Into The Spiderverse

Miles Morales makes it onto the silver screen in the animated feature being called the best superhero movie of the year, as well as one of the best superhero films ever made! In this episode of Cinepod Moviecast, José and I swing through Spider-Man: Into The Spiderverse to marvel at the multi-award-winning multiverse extravaganza. Is it worth your time? Or is this spider dead on arrival? We also end up taking a trip through time, and we get a special guest reviewer's input as well. It truly...

Bird Box

Netflix has done it again! With more than 44 million views, their latest thriller/horror film Bird Box has become a bit of a cultural phenomenon, resulting in dozens of social media memes and the infamous #BirdBoxChallenge. In this latest episode, Mr. Zulueta and I participate in a Bird Box challenge of our own...watching the film itself. Is it as great as many people say it is? Or does this bird have a busted wing? Put your blindfold on, and take a listen! --Chuck

Cinepod Moviecast Christmas Special!

Welcome to Season 2 of Cinepod Moviecast! And welcome to our annual Christmas special, where, just like last year, we take a look at "incidental Christmas" movies-- movies that take place on or around the Christmas holiday, but aren't necessarily Christmas films! Instead of each of us presenting our top 5, Mr. Zulueta and I each present our top 3 "incidental Christmas" movies. There are many different films to choose from this year, so join us while you're decorating the tree or on the way...

The Ballad of Buster Scruggs

What amazing times we live in, where one can simply go to the app on their device to see the latest films from some of the greatest directors in film! That's the case with the new film from The Coen Brothers, presented by Netflix. Mr. Zulueta and I are chatting about The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, featuring Tim Blake Nelson, Tyne Daly, Liam Neeson, James Franco, and Tom Waits. How does this western rank among the greats in the Coen's catalogue? Please, SEE THE MOVIE FIRST, then listen! --...

Ninjago Chat Part 2

In the second part of our conversation about Ninjago, my lovely daughter Maya Eloise continues to confuse her father about the many plot points that make up the series and the movie-- which she is quick to tell is NOT cannon! -- Chuck

Ninjago Chat Part 1

Ninjago is a LEGO phenomenon, especially in the Conyers' household. In this episode, I am joined by my very special guest, my daughter Maya Eloise, who gets to discuss her FAVORITE topic in the world! We had a VERY long conversation, so I decided to break this up into two episodes. This first episode will focus on the main characters in the series. I'm not as well-versed in the Ninjago mythology as Maya is, so she takes the lead while I ask the questions, and also draw parallels to the stuff...

The Other Side of the Wind

The long-awaited Orson Welles classic is here, courtesy of Netflix! That's right-- Mr. Zulueta has been looking forward to this one for a long time! In this episode, we review "The Other Side of the Wind," which claims to be the final film directed (co-written and co-edited) by the master himself. Now that it's finally is it? Is this a masterpiece of a piece of sh**? -- Chuck

The Maximilian Emancipation Chapter One Preview

This is a special episode of Cinepod Moviecast, in which I am reading to you the first chapter of my debut science fiction novel "The Maximilian Emancipation." If you're a regular listener of the podcast, you've heard the ads that I've interjected here and there. This time, no ad...just FULL ON novel! Think of this as an audio book preview, even though I've only recorded the first chapter of the book-- because VO work is HARD! Seriously, I mean I've directed my share of VO, I've written VO...

Cinepod Moviecast Halloween Special!

Welcome to the Cinepod Moviecast Halloween Special, with Up-Chuck Conyers and José Zombie Zulueta! This is our first Halloween episode, and this is where we take a look at our top 3 favorite scary movies! I think José took this more to heart than I did-- he really went for the spooky, I went for the nostalgia of some of my faves from the 80s. There are SOOOO MANY scary movies to choose from, but I think we whittled the choices down to 6 fun movies, with a couple more thrown in for added...

The Marvel films just keep on coming! This time, it's Venom, and I'm here for a short episode to chat about it. And you won't believe the reference I throw out when I discuss what this film reminds me of; you'll probably never guess in a million years! Or maybe, if you were an 80s kid. How does this movie rank in the pantheon of the MCU? Listen and find out! -- Chuck

Blue Velvet

In this episode of Cinepod Moviecast, José and I visit Lumberton, USA to follow the voyeristic journey of Jeffery Beaumont in the David Lynch masterpiece Blue Velvet. This is an extra-spoiler-ific exploration of the film that rocked the world upon its release in 1986. Some critics loved it, others thought it was depraved and pornographic. This film stars Kyle MacLachlan, Laura Dern, Isabella Roussellini, Dean Stockwell, and the unforgettable Dennis Hopper as one of the most menacing screen...

Super Fuzz

In this episode, I make José watch a movie that I grew up watching on 80s cable TV-- Super Fuzz, also known as Super Trooper, starring Terrence Hill and the legendary Ernest Borgnine. It's the crazy cop buddy movie with a theme song that you will NEVER get out of your head! What did José think? Did he enjoy it, or did he castigate me for recommending it? Check it out! -- Chuck

Ant-man and The Wasp

Another month, another Marvel movie. This time, it's the sequel to 2015's "Ant-man" called "Ant-man and The Wasp." Mr. Zulueta and I manage to stop talking about DC movies for a moment to have a chat about the first Marvel film to be released after "Avengers: Infinity War." Is this a worthy addition, or just fodder to hold us over until "Captain Marvel" and "Avengers 4"? -- Chuck

Under The Skin

On this episode I give some thoughts on the Scarlett Johansen science fiction vehicle "Under The Skin," a film that I feel doesn't get as much attention as it deserves. It's rare that you see an A-list star like Johansen taking on a role like this. If you're a science fiction fan, you owe it to yourself to see this film! -- Chuck

FullMetal Alchemist and other Anime faves

José and I discuss the live action anime adaptation of "FullMetal Alchemist" on Netflix, as well as a few of the anime series that we would love to see made into live action adaptations. It's a good time all around! --Chuck

The Incredibles 2

This is a very special episode of Cinepod Moviecast for me because my co-hosts are my little kiddies, my babies, my little children, Maya Eloise and Ravi Alexander! We saw "The Incredibles 2," which featured the short film "Bao" and I get their perspective on both. Since this is a family film, I thought it would be appropriate to hear from kids! And this episode was a lot of fun to record (they had a blast!). This is a family-friendly episode of Cinepod Moviecast, so you can actually share...

Yellow Submarine

In this episode of Cinepod Moviecast, José and I reminisce about one of our favorite films of all-time: Yellow Submarine! This year marks the 50th anniversary of this animated rock musical featuring the music of The Beatles. We spend quite a bit of time talking about Beatles' music and mythology, but we also manage to discuss the film itself (haha). It's a magical mystery tour of epic proportions! Are you ready? Splendid!

Dune: The Alternative Edit, Redux

How YOU Dune? David Lynch's Dune is considered one of the most divisive science fiction films of all time. Universally panned upon its initial release, it eventually found a devoted audience on home video and became an undeniable cult classic. Mr. Zulueta and I absolutely adore this film. I remember my father seeing it in the theatre back in the day, and if you were lucky enough to see it opening weekend like he did, the audience was given a pamphlet with a glossary of terms so that people...
