Do you know what a lobbyist does? Or how health care policy & legislation is developed? This time we were joined by Jay Keese, a founding partner of Capitol Advocates, one of the most effective health care lobbyists in Washington, DC. Jay helped us understand what "advocacy" actually means. He even laid out the tea leaves for what we can expect in terms of health care policy from the incoming Biden administration and a divided Congress.

Aaaannndd we are back! We are taking a step back into the basics. Probably because Joe won't shut up about "primary care" but never bother to explain what it is. To rectify this we asked Dr. Jack Westfall, Director of the Robert Graham Center, to sit down with us to really lay out what primary care is and why we, as consumers of health care, should care about it.

Our goal is to make health care understandable. But somethings are just hard to understand. Or even to talk about. We are joined by Dr. Delicia Haynes, a growing leader in the field of Direct Primary Care for a candid conversation about the various intersections of race and health care delivery. She walks us through her experience working to make care more accessible and affordable to people of every background through her direct primary care practice. She also illuminates her experience as a black female physician in the US, particularly in light of the ongoing demands for more equality from authorities across the nation.

For our first interview we spoke with someone who should have been a health policy rockstar but chose to be a healer instead. Dr. Chris Cooper is one of the most thoughtful people we know and brings an unvarnished perspective on how primary care physicians ended up in the Kafkaesque grind of daily practice. And (amazingly) he doesn't hold anyone actor as intentionally malicious. We chat about the gulf between the best-intended transformation policy and the realities of daily life in practice. Also, what impact has COVID-19 had on care delivery?

Episode 2! Loren & Joe focus on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on primary care practices and primary care payment. It has been a month since we recorded the audio, but the situation remains largely the same. We just don't know what to expect with COVID-19. Also, we test out the Appendix Acronym Game. So we want this to be an unfiltered, honest, and community involved look at the world of healthcare reform so despite our multiple claims throughout the episode that we will never release it...we decided to! It fits the vibe of the show, you get to know our hosts Loren & Joe (or Joe & Loren we need to fight that one out), learn about our take on the current healthcare landscape, and there's even a little classic arcade music to enchant the senses!
