What do you WANT to do?

8/10/2020
This is a quick episode based off of a quote that someone sent me and asked if I could do a podcast about it. Of course I said Yes! Listen in to hear the quote shared with me and how it reminded me of another quote. Both of them call us out (lovingly) about how we put our self-care on our to-do lists. I’m also inviting you to sign up for my newest free offering..mini Human Design readings! I’m so intrigued by the Human Design system and I want to share it with you. These mini readings are free until my birthday (8/17) so head to the link in my IG bio @iamkathleenleslie to schedule or go to https://calendly.com/kathleenleslie

What’s Life without a little celebration?

8/3/2020
I’m asking the important questions on my first episode: What is the last thing you’ve celebrated? When was the last time you celebrated something you did for yourself? Let’s dive in and because I have so much to say on the topic of celebration: Our brains are hardwired to look for the negative...celebrating even the small things allows you to shift your outlook ever so slightly towards the positive. You don’t NEED a reason to celebrate. We’ve become accustomed to only celebrating “big” achievements..baby showers, weddings, first homes...but why not the smaller things? The steps that you took to accomplish something deserve just as much celebration. When you celebrate along the way, you make the journey a little bit sweeter. Anything we celebrate is something that changes us. Every single thing we do moves us forward in this thing called life and I am always curious as to why we don’t celebrate ourselves more often. Here are some more tidbits I share with you: This may seem radical, but I truly believe that EVERY moment is a celebration! Mindfulness can also be an act of celebration. In this moment, we can choose to feel good, we can choose to celebrate. Celebration Makes you Happy and lessens our stress. And a reflection for you to take into your day: How can you invite celebration into your self-care practice? How can you invite celebration into your life every day? If you want to hear an episode on why consciously celebrating even the small moments is a radical act in defiance of the patriarchy and capitalism, reach out to me in Instagram at @iamkahtleenleslie In this moment, in this breath we can feel good. In this moment, we can choose to celebrate.

From Dark to Light, My Story

8/3/2020
I’m just jumping right in and putting it out there. This is a raw, real, and incredibly personal episode about mental health, specifically the darkest moment of my adult life that was the start of the path that I’m on now. We recognize ourselves in others' stories, and I’m realizing that If I don’t share my story someone out there may not realize that they are not alone in their journey. It can feel lonely and isolating when you are feeling sad, depressed, and anxious because mental health still has a stigma attached to it. There has been progress the past several years towards normalizing and ending the shame surrounding mental health, and there is still plenty of work to be done. Here some things that I share in today’s episode: If you or anyone you know is feeling like they need support on their mental health journeys, can go here: Suicide Prevention Hotline: https://suicidepreventionlifeline.org/ 1-800-273-8255 Veterns Crisis Line https://www.veteranscrisisline.net/ 1-800-273-8255 press 1 Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration https://www.samhsa.gov/find-help/national-helpline 1-800-662-HELP (4357) OK 2 Talk Teen Helpline https://ok2talk.org/ 1-800-273-TALK https://www.cdc.gov/mentalhealth/tools-resources/individuals/index.htm The Loveland Therapy Fund https://thelovelandfoundation.org/ Bring Change 2 mind https://bringchange2mind.org/talk/ The Trevor Project https://www.thetrevorproject.org/ The Child Mind Institute https://childmind.org/ Trans Lifeline https://www.translifeline.org/

How we do this thing called Self-Care

8/3/2020
I’m really into this episode because it’s the first self-care episode, but I’m going to tell you straight up...I don’t give you the answers, but I give you permission to create you own self-care practice! Let’s go! I realized that there is so much that i want to share with you, so listen in: I’m sharing the history and definition of self-care while also giving you permission to define self-care on your terms. Self-care has a fascinating history. From being primarily focused on mentally ill and elderly patients needing support from health care professionals in the early 20th century, it then evolved into a radical, political act in the 60’s and 70’s. In the late 90’s it started becoming the focus of overworked, high stress corporate workers to prevent burnout, and now it’s one of the biggest buzzwords that gets thrown around without much intentional thought. I also share the reasons why self-care seems so mysterious and elusive and pretentious all at the same time. This is related to my biggest pet peeve when it comes to self-care and how it’s talked about today. As you listen, I invite you to think about how self-care is influenced by your perceptions, your community, and how you go about your daily routines. I dive into how fluid the different types of self-care are..A lot of people talk about “pillars” and in this episode I highlight how everyone will have a different number of self-care pillars in their practice, and that’s okay! I’m ending the episode by addressing the in-accessibility of self-care today. I have experienced this along several parts of my own journey, and I know that others have experienced this as well. It is my hope that this podcast episode will start to bring awareness and a subtle shift to the accessibility of self-care for you, your community, and for others. Join me for a moment of radical self-care towards the end of the episode! To learn more about the International Self-Care Foundations 7 pillars of self-care https://isfglobal.org/
