MDTeam Kindness - An Introduction

6/26/2023
In this new series of the MDTea Podcast, we are exploring the theme of kindness: in ourselves, with each other and within our teams. While the focus of this series takes us in a slightly different direction, the aim and core of the podcast is the same - to support teams working and learning together for the benefit of older adults. In this first episode, or prologue if you will... We will explore why we think this is such an important topic to cover, not just at this point in time working in healthcare post-covid, but always. As ever, we'll be providing you with the evidence bases where they exist, and best practice wisdom where it doesn't. Alongside this we will explore the influence of breathing exercises on our nervous system, walk you through the components of an approach to everyday Quiet Leadership. So grab yourself, and anyone else around you, a cup of tea, settle in, and enjoy. https://thehearingaidpodcasts.org.uk/mdteam-kindness/

S12 E7 - Community Nursing

10/18/2022
Great to have you join us for another new episode of the MDTea Podcast, which today is all about community nursing. Outside hospital in the UK there are thousands of nursing staff who use their clinical skills and knowledge to support patients with long-term conditions and help maximise their independence. Some of these will be district nurses and others will be nurse specialists in particular areas of medicine. This can include nurses specialising in diabetes, stroke, respiratory and cardiac care, tissue viability, mental health, palliative care and lots more. Two of the roles that we see quite commonly in older patients are Parkinson's nurses and dementia nurses. We speak to two fantastic guests today to help us learn about these roles. Clare Addison is a vastly experienced nurse who is now living with Parkinson's disease, and Chris O'Connor is an admiral nurse in Surrey who spends his time caring for patients and families affected by dementia. Lots of wise words to take on board from both of them. We've also got all our usual features, such as Paper of the Week, social media highlights and our One Minute Topic. If you'd like to get in touch, please find us on Twitter @mdtea_podcast, on Instagram @mdteapodcast or online at www.mdteapodcast.co.uk. We love hearing from you. Hope you enjoy the episode!

10/4/2022
Welcome back to another episode of the MDTea Podcast, where this time we’ve taken the show on the road to St Wilfrid’s Hospice in Eastbourne to learn all about community palliative care. We have the privilege on today’s episode of hearing from Eirian, Sophie, Rachael, Laura, Andy and Paul from St Wilfrid’s Hospice. We were invited for a cup of tea with them down at their state-of-the-art inpatient facility on the south coast of England, and they explained to us about the inspiring work they do in catering for patients with life-limiting illnesses or those in the last phase of their lives. Please have a listen if you can, there’s such a goldmine of useful tips and suggestions for all of us to apply to our day-to-day practice, whether that’s in palliative care medicine or not. General practice is often the first port of call for people with healthcare needs in the community, and it's that world that we'll be exploring today. What do GP teams do? Who makes up the team? What are the challenges that they face? How has their working life changed since covid? And what ways can they help older people, like our patient Jean, to live well in the community?
