8/16/2020
Hi everyone, I know this episode may be controversial due to issues of cultural appropriation. I am always open to learning and therefore have already edited and corrected some of the information I had already presented. I want to include this episode because I think it's important that we understand the history of yoga, and how it was saved from the brink of extinction. This is the story of one Guru and his 4 students, and how their actions saved this dying practice.

Women Who Run With the Wolves S02E04

8/8/2020
In The Wellness Podcast this week, we begin our journey through one of my favourite books. Women who Run with the wolves. We are going to read through the beautiful, magical, and healing work of Jungian analyst Clarissa Pinkola Estes Today, we read through the introduction to this potent book. This book is medicine for your soul. If you feel defeated, lost, anxious, and generally not yourself, then join me as we reclaim the wild woman within. Introduction: Singing Over The Bones "We are filled with a longing for the wild. There are few culturally sanctioned antidotes for this yearning. We were taught to feel shame for such a desire. We grew our hair long and used it to hide our feelings. But the shadow of Wild Women still lurks behind us during our days and in our nights. No matter where we are, the shadow that trots behind us is definitely four - footed." Clarissa Pinkola Estes Ph.D https://thebarefootdoctor.com.au/women-who-run-with-the-wo…/

Kristi Boles S02E03

8/2/2020
Meet Kristi Boles How open heart surgery and a diagnosis of Marfan Syndrome in 2011 taught Kristi the value of taking a whole body approach to her health. Kristi knows what it’s like to be desperately unwell. She endured months of pain, fatigue, insomnia, migraines and eventually heart palpitations before being diagnosed with Marfan Syndrome in 2011. It turned out she had a dissection of the aorta – in fact, a six centimetre aneurism at the aortic valve. After her 10 hour, life-saving, open heart surgery, Kristi struggled to accept how the syndrome would affect her life – she could no longer play contact sport, lift heavy items or perform a number of other everyday tasks. What’s more, her recovery from surgery was slow and tedious. Kristi’s immune system was weak and her gut health poor. New beginnings By 2014, three years after her surgery, Kristi had broadened her approach to her physical and mental health. She had enlisted a naturopath, osteopath, acupuncturist and kinesiologist. By focussing more on the fundamentals of hydration, nutrition, sleep, stress management and exercise – as well as her clinical treatment plan – Kristi regained her overall health and wellbeing. A mission to help others Since then, the principle podiatrist and director of two Allied Health practices has qualified as an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach. And she is determined to help others speed up the healing process and return to their best life, sooner. Introducing Allied Wellness! Pranayama & Understanding the Breath S01E10

9/12/2019
MIND: In this weeks episode of The Wellness Podcast, we explore the ancient practice of pranayama. Pranayama translates to breath-work. This practice is simple, but potent as we can address underlying anxiety and sympathetic nervous responses. All it takes is 5 mins to help settle the mind, dampen down those adrenal responses, and help ground you. Prana means life force or breath sustaining the body; Ayama translates as "to extend or draw out." Together the two mean breath extension or control. Pranayama are breathing exercises which clear the physical and emotional obstacles in our body to free the breath and so the flow of prana - life energy. Through regular and sustained practice of pranayama you can supercharge your whole body! For more information check out thebarefootdoctor.com.au

Having lost many close to me, I was always going to cover this topic, however, I had hoped it would not have been so soon. In this episode I share my personal journey, the way death has shaped me and the lives of those I have lost. Equally terrible, and beautiful. Healing Our Inner Child S01E05

8/9/2019
HEART MEDICINE: Today we cover the topic of our inner child. what is it? What are signs it is wounded? Why should we heal it? How should we heal it? And, what are the benefits of healing our inner child? The inner child is that small part of us that adults often express through their emotions. When the inner child is healthy it can express itself through the adult as creativity, discovery, play, intimacy, love, passion, enthusiasm, curiosity, and belief. However, our inner child may be wounded, and crying out for attention. This may occur when the adult is carrying the pain of their childhood through their adult life. This pain is held in their subconscious. The subconscious does not have a concept of time, and therefore someone may be in their fifties, but they may feel the pain of a hurt child or the age of 5, just like it happened yesterday. Consequently, their responses to life seem infected with this pain, and they appear to act childlike. The scars of childhood abuse and neglect affect adults’ brains for decades to come. Though not for everyone, if it is for you it's profoundly healing. Even if the events of the past were traumatic, the therapy we share isn't, in fact healing the inner child can be delightful and joyful too! Reward yourself and your inner child with things that create heart medicine. Laughter and love are deeply healing. Included, after the credits, is a 15 minute Inner Child Healing Journey. SPIRIT: Today we meet our co-host, Cynthia Rugari from abundantlifetherapies.com.au Cynthia is a spiritual warrior and facilitator of women's and girls' circles. Today we heal the SPIRIT as we explore the wonderful topic of The Red Tent. We discuss the history of Red Tents, and why women and men need their sacred space. What is the difference between the two? We also cover the importance of reclaiming rites of passage, healing the sacred feminine, and how to honour ourselves and one another. Finally, we touch on how holding these circles helps to heal ourselves and in turn the world. Yes, circles really are that important. We've been holding circles since man could walk upright, and could sit around a fire. It is our oldest form of social interaction, and as one of our oldest archetypal* experiences, holds a central role within our psyche.
