🔒 AD FREE + BONUS CONTENT Shape & Size Inclusive Snow Pants with Maria Baker, Founder of Nobody’s Princess

3/28/2024
Subscriber-only episode In this episode we meet Maria Baker, the founder of Nobody’s Princess, a size and shape inclusive brand of ski and snowboard pants for women. Maria started snowboarding with friends about 9 years ago (at age 30) and instantly fell in love with being on the snow. Right away, Maria struggled to find snow pants that fit her properly. She kept ripping them, squeezing into pants that did not fit well and felt uncomfortable. When covid impacted Maria’s job in travel, she saw it was the right time to launch Nobody’s Princess. After some researching and networking Maria used indigogo and kickstarter to launch her snow pants. Nobody’s Princess snow pants have sizing that includes different lengths (short, regular, tall) in sizes 2-20. The snow pants come in a variety of fun colors like aqua, violet and raspberry. We loved learning about how Maria sourced real life women from her local Facebook group to model her pants. Maria also tells us about the ski resorts in Australia, including Buller and Thredbo and her favorite apres ski snacks. Jessica Winstanley Talks Skiing and Squash with the Ski Moms

3/22/2024
Become a Premium Subscriber and Support the Ski Moms for $3/month In this episode we meet with Jessica Winstanley a ski and squash mom, who carves out time from her busy life in NYC to ski Plattekill Mountain. Plattekill has everything Jess and her family are looking for in a local ski resort, located in Roxbury, New York, a 3 hour drive from New York City. Jessica tells us more about the sport of squash. We learn about what we would expect to see at a squash match and some of the basis rules. Squash is a physically demanding sport that requires some serious strategy. It’s fast paced and a great workout. But to bring it back to skiing, Jessica knew early on that skiing was going to be part of their family life. The family started at Mohawk Mountain (Cornwall, CT) and went on to other areas within driving distance of NYC. Eventually Jess found her happy place, Plattekill Mountain (Roxbury, NY) first taking day trips and then renting a seasonal ski house. Jessica had great things to say about the mountain’s race and learn to ski programs. Plattekill has everything Jess and her family are looking for in a local ski resort, located in Roxbury, New York, a 3 hour drive from New York City. Jessica grew up in Canada, and started skiing in her Dad’s backpack before she was even one year old. At age 7 Jessica started a ski and race program and loved skiing from a very young age. In college, Jessica got to explore skiing in Europe and eventually found herself living in Aspen, Colorado with some friends. Jessica was then drawn to a job in squash tournament event management in NYC and Frankfurt, Germany. This is where Jess met her husband, Peter Nicol, a professional squash player. Jessica tells us more about the sport of squash. We learn about what we would expect to see at a squash match and some of the basis rules. Christine gives us tips and insights to navigate Stratton Mountain for a great family ski day. We learn about Christine’s early childhood ski days learning to ski in Vermont with her family. Christine met her husband at Stratton and got married at the Stratton base lodge, but that’s a story for a different podcast 🙂 Stratton is a popular ski destination for families from nearby New York and New England since it’s southern Vermont and a bit more accessible. Christine gives us the lay of the land at Stratton, which has two base areas (Snow Bowl and Sun Bowl). Weekends and holidays do get busy at Stratton and Christine recommends starting your day at Sun Bowl, which as the name implies is sunny and warm earlier in the day, and often less crowded. We talk about lodging, local markets, and all sorts of activities to do in Stratton and nearby Manchester, Vermont. Christine describes the pedestrian Stratton Village that families love with everything from outdoor dining, firepits, a candy shop and great retail shops. We learned all about the wide variety of learn to ski/board programs at Stratton, some of which you need to register for well before winter to secure a spot. 🔒 AD FREE + BONUS CONTENT Töst Your Way to a Fun and Healthy Ski Season with Chie Addington

Subscriber-only episode Meet Chie Addington, the Chief Administrative Officer at Töst Beverages (based in Vermont!). Töst is an alcohol free, sparkling, all natural, low calorie celebratory beverage. Töst comes in two flavors, original and rose - and we love the both! We hear the story that led to founding Töst and talk about how they decided to make a new category of beverage instead of dealcoholized wine. There was a lot of work and exploration that went into finding the perfect taste and right feel. We originally found our way to Töst after we published an article about skiing and alcohol. Skiers are 43% more likely to be involved in a crash when alcohol is involved. In the past 5 years, 3.8 million people reported injuries while skiing that were a direct result of alcohol consumption. And while we love a good cocktail, we wait till apres to enjoy. We talk about the trend towards non-alcoholic options on mountains and in ski town restaurants. Chie points to a more health conscious society and better non-alcoholic options like Töst. Chie tells us about growing up skiing in Japan, ranging from smaller local mountains to the epic resorts of Hokkaido. Chie describes the mountainside cuisine and warm teas at the Japanese ski resorts. Nowadays, Chie and her family spend a lot of time at Bromley Mountain in Vermont.
