We're in Moron! Today was our first day of riding west, no back tracking, no wrong turns, no u turns. Felt good! We update the last couple days, including one last night in Ulaanbaatar, one lost day riding straight west and spending the night in Lun. Then finally heading North, THEN West, to get on beautiful paved roads on our way to Lake Khovosal.
This episode has some... babbling. Last night we spent the night in Baganuur, a sleepy coal town two hours outside Ulaanbaatar. So we killed some time and recorded a podcast. We talked about me crashing in the mud, small towns, and food. It's all over the place.
After leaving Kokh Nuur, we quickly realize we're out of our element. We intended a leisurely ride up to Baldan Baraivun Kiid monastery. After a couple hours of hard riding through dirt, single track, water crossings, and plenty of dropping the bike, we were exhausted and confused. We decided to go off map and try to head directly to the town to the east, called Omnodelger. Of course, that was more hard riding and even less direction. Once the sun started setting, we decided to camp next...
After waiting a week in Ulanbaator to get our motorcycles, we finally got them and headed East. This episode covers our first real day of riding, including some pavement and dirt! On our way up to Kokh Nuur lake, when Chiingis declared himself the Khan of Khans.
We are in Mongolia! And the motorcycles are not. Neither is our drone.
It's been a bit of a rough start, but there have been some bright spots. This episode we talk about how Heather crashed our drone, our flight from San Francisco to Mongolia, updates on shipping the motorcycles, and our first impressions of Ulan Baatar.
