One of the nicest people I've interviewed and I've interviewed thousands. Chesney Hawkes chats to me about 'that' song which catapulted him to fame aged only 19, ( I play a few seconds of it to remind you!) and what he's been up to since then. Episode 147 - Nick Battle - Music Business Giant with a new album and single

A pleasure to talk to the one and only Nick Battle - he is one of those people who has so much experience in the music industry it's difficult to know where to start! In the seventies he was bass and violin player in the band 'After The Fire' and since then he's run his own record business with a long list of impressive clients including George Benson, Sir Cliff Richard, Englebert Humperdink, Simon Fuller ( Spice Girls ), and had his songs recorded by the likes of Michael Ball, Sir Cliff, Natasha Bedingfield, Gary Barlow and David Grant to name just a few. Impressive eh? Anyway Nick has just released an album 'Audience of One' and a single from it ' Keepers of The Flame' which I play a bit of for you in the interview. As you can imagine it's very well produced! We chat about how he got started in the music business and of course I ask Nick if he could he give some advice to anyone setting out in the scary music business. Andras Droppa is a Heavy rock & Blues guitarist singer songwriter who straight out of university more or less went on the road! With Hungarian and North Devon roots his music is amazing and he tells me how it all started. A first for Music Stories I think, an interview with another DJ ! Of course Pete Sherriff and I have a lot in common and could have talked for weeks! In fact there will be a Part 2 interview as he has so many interesting and inspirational stories to tell. My wife Emma and I watched Pete very professionally DJ and Compare at a festival in the summer, I was so impressed with his personality and professionalism I had to try and track him down for an interview! We talk about how he started at school ( same as me) and he has stories about his time at clubs, including The Dome in Birmingham - where Emma used to go as a young woman to dance to his tracks! Small world! Sabina Chantouria is one of the new rising stars in Swedish pop music. Her sound is as eclectic as her Georgian-Swedish roots. In 2011, Sabina was selected for the World Championship of Performing Arts and was a 2017 Georgian National finalist for Eurovision! This year, she won the category best artist of the Year at Caucasus Music Her latest single, "Echoes," has been put in rotation on international radio and airlines and we talk about what is was like to hear your own song over the speakers on a plane! Debby toured with her father Glen Campbell for 25 years and is still singing and performing, her new release 'It looks like Rain' is beautiful and I play a bit for you in the interview. Glen suffered from Alzheimers and passed away 7 years ago, the song reflects what it is like being with someone who has the disease, a must listen in my view. I talk to Arlene who was in her kitchen, complete with a fabulous Jukebox and Mirror Ball! She worked as cabin crew for 25 years before realising her talent as a singer songwriter. What she has achieved since the change is astounding, recording in Nashville, working and collaborating with the best, professional musicians, and more. Singing mainly country songs ( Nashville is a clue) Arlene has released a beautiful version of Abba's 'Chiquitita' and I play a bit for you in the interview. There is a special and emotional reason she has recorded this song which she explains, and she gets very emotional hearing me play it - so sorry! Louis and I hit it off straight away and we had lots of fun making this episode! His legendary father was huge in the jazz / swing / dance world ( he was the guy who sang 'I just Wanna Be Like You' as King Louis in the film The Jungle Book!) and Louis Junior is following in his footsteps! Louis tells me how he grew up in a musical family, his mother taught him to play drums - and now he plays trumpet of course too. We chat about how the music is selected and refreshed at his gigs, playing with his band 'The Witnesses' and still having a lot of fun with the audience who love him.
