We were incredibly lucky to attend Robbie’s Long 90’s gig at Dingwalls in Camden, where he performed both his debut solo album Life Thru A Lens and his brand-new record BRITPOP from start to finish! It’s the podcast’s 4th birthday! And we’re marking the occasion with a very special guest – the incredible Elle (Lorraine) Cato, one of Robbie Williams’s amazing backing vocalists. Elle’s career began when she was just 15, signing as a solo artist with Columbia Records while still at school. From there, she became a sought-after vocal tutor, which opened the door to singing backing vocals for boyband Blue. Since then, Elle has toured or recorded with a dazzling list of artists including Will Young, Ellie Goulding, Van Morrisson, Anastacia, Lisa Stansfield, Jamiroquai and many more. Elle first sang with Robbie at private gigs back in 2012, but she joined his tour for the first time during XXV in 2023. We’re delighted to bring you another Better Man interview - we’re joined by singer Adam Tucker, who provided vocals for Robbie Williams in the film. Adam tells us about the unique way he secured the role and explains why it was necessary to have someone younger sing some of Robbie’s vocals, to match the Robbie reflected in the film. Did you love the Boybands Forever documentary which Robbie was featured in recently? It was a great show, but it was also really sad to hear the negative sides of what most of the 90s/00s boybands went through. They each discussed their rise to fame and what they hysteria was like, but also how it affected their mental health, and left some of them with no money in the end. There’s one 90s boyband member who’s been discussing this topic and more with other pop stars on his own YouTube channel, The Accidental Pop Star, for a while. So, we’re thrilled to be joined by Ally Begg from Bad Boys Inc to hear about his 90s boyband experience, as well as his memories of meeting and seeing Robbie live many times. Bad Boys Inc had 6 Top 40 singles and a Top 20 album and were created by one of Take That’s early producers, Ian Levine, to rival Take That. Ally fills us in on how he felt about that, what being in Bad Boys Inc was like and why the band split after just one album. He also tells us what happened the first time he met Take That, and why he ended up going to some of Robbie’s earliest solo gigs and rehearsal shows.
