The Utah Jazz point guard hails from Spain and has played in the NBA since 2011. He spent many years playing basketball overseas in Europe. He started at just 14 years old so he has been playing professional basketball for 12 years. The Minnesota Timberwolves selected Rubio with the 5th overall pick in the 2009 NBA Draft. He chose to stay in Europe for a couple years before coming to the NBA. The Jazz made a trade for him in June 2017.

He has coached at the JUCO, FCS, and FBS levels. He was the defensive coordinator for the University of Utah for several years and one year with Oregon State University. He replaced Bronco Mendenhall as head coach for BYU Football.
