➢ The Institute of Race Relations (IRR) has released a report titled Economic Empowerment for the Disadvantaged – A Better Way to Empower South Africa’s Poor. The report makes the case for a thorough-going reform of the country’s approach to empowerment. It further addresses the profound failures of Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) in overcoming persisting disadvantages that continue to lock millions of people, particularly black South Africans, out of the formal economy. 11 people were shot dead in KZN while traveling in a taxi - 23 July 2018

Yesterday 11 people were shot dead in KZN while traveling in a taxi from a funeral to Johannesburg. Police are now investigating the matter as an incident of taxi violence. The victims were allegedly from a taxi association in Gauteng and had come to attend the funeral of one of their members. To speak to us more about what is being done to solve this heinous crime we are joined on the line by the spokesperson of the South African Police Services (SAPS), Brigadier Vish Naidoo.

23 July 2018 ➢ The ANC in Gauteng and KwaZulu Natal held their elective conferences over the weekend. In Gauteng around 1244 out of a total of 1256 voting ANC delegates elected Premier David Makhura as the province chairperson while Gauteng education MEC Panyaza Lesufi was elected as his deputy. In KZN Sihle Zikalala retained his position as the province chairperson while Mike Mabuyakhulu beat Willies Mchunu to become the deputy chairperson. This evening we’ll speak to political analyst, Professor Andre Duvenage about what he makes of the outcomes of the two conferences.
