It’s been less than a week since the Orlando Magic edged the Boston Celtics in the penultimate game of the regular season. And yet it’s an instant classic for Magic fans, who saw their team go into the TD Garden and clinch an NBA playoff spot for the first time since 2011-2012. Terrence Ross hit 5 three-pointers and scored 26 off the bench, Nik Vucevic added 25 points and 12 rebounds and the Magic overcame a 13-point deficit to dispatch Boston and earn a postseason berth for the first time...

With the Atlanta Hawks in town this week, we look back at Game 1 of the 1996 Eastern Conference Semifinals. Led by its young core once again, Orlando dispatched the Hawks 117-105 behind 41 points from Shaquille O'Neal and 32 from Penny Hardaway as the Magic set the tone for a 4-1 series win to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals.

Firsts of anything are always special for a new franchise. That was especially true for the Magic against the Detroit Pistons on April 8, 1994 at the Orlando Arena. With nine remaining in the campaign, Orlando received a 40 point effort from Shaquille O’Neal and a near triple-double from prized rookie Penny Hardaway, as the Magic built a big lead and staved off the Pistons 117-103 to clinch the franchise’s first NBA playoff appearance just five years into the team’s existence.

It was just his second season in the NBA, but, despite being a youngster in NBA terms, O'Neal put together one of the most dominant game performances in Magic history. Shaq posted 24 points, pulled down 28 rebounds and had a franchise record 15 blocks in an 87-85 win over the Nets at the Meadowlands. Hear how it all unfolded in this week's Classic Game.
