We get an update from Michigan dnr big game specialist Chad Stewart to start out this week’s show. Chad talks about the firearm deer season and has the latest on CWD. We also discuss the mandatory antler point restriction proposal for hunters in Michigan’s thumb. Then, Tom Campbell of Woods-n-Waternews has details of their December edition and looks forward to wintertime outdoor show season.

Hour two features Dave Thomas of Bowhunter Planet. Dave talks about the new bows for 2019 and what to look for when buying a bow. Chief Information Officer Nick Green of MUCC is up next. Nick says Michigan’s lame duck legislature is looking at several important pieces of legislation that could affect hunters and anglers. Scott Szafranski of Linwood Beach Marina on Saginaw Bay wraps up the hour. Scott says their docks are still in the water and will be until the ice comes in.

Noted outdoor writer and hunting expert Richard P Smith kicks off the final hour this week. Richard tells the story of losing a U.P. buck to a bear. He also has some thoughts on the proposal for mandatory antler point restrictions in the Thumb. We wrap it up once again with Chef Dixie Dave Minar and another great wild game recipe.

We kick off a new month this weekend. First, retired Michigan dnr wildlife biologist John Ozoga joins me to talk about the Upper Peninsula deer herd. He says things aren’t looking good. Then, Allan Goetz from the Michigan Buck Pole (MiBuckPole.com) checks in with some interesting observations about the season so far.

Hour two features Tim Roller of Whitetail Journey TV. Tim has great advice for deer hunting during the late season. James Severance of Burt Watson Chevrolet is up next. James talks about his duck season so far and takes a look at the 2019 Silverado pickups.

Ice safety is the opening topic of discussion in our final hour this week. Retired Coast Guardsman and avid ice fisherman Joe Marion joins me with some tips to keep from going through the ice….and what to do if you do break through. Wild game chef Dixie Dave Minar wraps it all up with another great recipe.

We wrap up this month with a wide range of topics. First, Dale Hendershot of the Michigan Trappers and Predator Callers Association (mtpca.com) joins me. Dale says trapping is alive and well in Michigan today. Then, Tom Campbell from Woods-n-Waternews has a preview of their December edition.

The tradition of deer hunting in Michigan is the opening topic this week as I share some thoughts on what it means to me, and to Michigan hunters as a whole. Then, one of the most interesting hunters I know, Nick Ostroski joins me to talk about his recent elk hunt in Colorado. Nick is a Michigan farmer who decided at the last minute to jump in his truck and head west for the adventure of a lifetime. He talks about that hunt, and why he did it. We head to Michigan’s UP in the second hour as I talk with Dan Donarski. Dan is an outdoor writer from the Soo with a unique insight into hunting and fishing in the Upper Peninsula. We talk about deer and upland bird hunting….as well as the discovery of CWD in their deer herd. Scott Buttrick of the Forward Corporation is my next guest. Scott talks about our upcoming “Wednesday Night Live” at their LumberJack Restaurant and also the big Outdoor Expo in February...

Jef Poet of Jays Sporting Goods kicks off the final hour this week. Jeff talks about the importance of deer hunting to Michiganders. He also describes the purpose of the Michigan Wildlife Council (HereForMiOutdoors.org) and their “Here. For Generations” campaign. We wrap it all up once again with Wild Game Chef Dixie Dave Minar. This time he has a very nice venison recipe.

The Sportsmen Against Hunger program is our first topic of discussion this week as Ray Rustem from the Michigan dnr joins me with details on how hunters can donate their venison to the needy. Then Scott Kietzman from Linwood Taxidermy has some great advice on preserving your deer hunting memories. Tom Campbell from Woods-n-Waternews wraps up the opening hour by talking about the impact of deer hunting in Michigan.
