The Allurement of Evil - Temptation in the World

5/16/2023
It is undeniable that evil offers enticing substitutes in the form of temptation. The world is a form of temptation, and evil often makes offers that are alluring and enticing in order to divert our attention away from what is important. This is made clear in Matthew 4:8-9, when the devil took Jesus up on an exceedingly high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. He offered Jesus all these things if he would fall down and worship him. The devil's offer was tempting and alluring, and this is what evil does. It makes offers that are enticing and draw us away from what is important. It could be an overwhelming job offer that requires us to leave home and work sixteen hours a day. We may be enticed by the money, but we don't consider the sacrifice that is being made to get that money. The same is true of sex. Sex is a normal function, something that was created for us to enjoy and use for procreation. However, evil has a corrupt version of sex, offering a substitute that shifts our focus away from what is important. Adam and Eve were also tempted in the Garden of Eden. The fruit looked appealing to the eye and promised them wisdom and godlike power. This is what evil does, it poses something to us that sounds like a good idea. It can be something as simple as a neighbor offering something that we think we might enjoy. One of the most important things that we can do to resist evil is to say no. This is easier said than done, as evil often comes with an influence to get us to behave and act in a certain way. We must recognize that we have a choice, and that is to resist evil and to say no. It is a conscious decision to not give in to temptation and to remain steadfast in our faith. We must also remember that God has provided us with the grace to deny ungodly and worldly lust. We must take an active stance of resistance against evil and refuse to bow down to its influence. We must rise up and not allow ourselves to be enslaved by the lusts of the world. Unfortunately, many Christian men are caving under the pressure of evil and have accepted its substitutes. They have found pleasure in yielding to evil and have stopped resisting it. We must remember that God has given us the power to overcome temptation and that we can find a way out of the situation. We must be strong in our faith and have the courage to stand up and say no. 00:00:22 Evil offers enticement. 00:07:06 Resist evil and say no. 00:17:46 Negative association with temptation. 00:21:00 Resist the evil, serve God.

Reflecting the KING in Approval and Affirmation

4/12/2023
God’s approval and affirmation is an important and often overlooked aspects of our spiritual lives. We are all created in the image of God, and as such, we are all worthy of his approval and affirmation. Unfortunately, many of us have grown up without the approval and affirmation of a father figure, leaving us feeling unworthy and undeserving of such love and attention. This feeling of being overlooked and undervalued can be difficult to overcome, but God’s approval and affirmation can help us to feel worthy and accepted. The Bible speaks of Jesus’ baptism in Matthew 3:17, which reads, “Suddenly there came a voice from heaven saying, ‘This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.’” This passage speaks of God’s approval and affirmation of Jesus, and is a reminder that we too are worthy of such love and acceptance. The NLT translation of this passage reads, “This is my dearly loved son, in whom brings me great joy.” The amplified version reads, “My beloved son, in whom I am well pleased, and I’m delighted.” These translations speak of the pleasure, gratification, satisfaction, and delight that God feels for us. In the podcast, Tim talks about his own upbringing, which included a stepfather who was addicted to heroin and a biological father who was in prison most of his life. He speaks of the lack of encouragement, support, and affirmation he received from his father figures, and how it was not until later in life that he began to be mentored and supported by someone else. This is a reminder of how important it is to receive affirmation and understanding from those around us, especially from those in authority. Unfortunately, many Christian men struggle to believe that they have good standing with God. This is often due to feelings of guilt and shame, and the belief that God’s love and approval are directly correlated to our behavior. We may feel like an angel one minute and the devil the next, and this can lead to a roller coaster of emotions. It is important to remember that God’s love and approval are not directly correlated to our behavior. We are loved and accepted even if we fall short. This lack of affirmation can also lead to a need to impress people, to prove that we are worthy of love and acceptance. We may try to do this through wealth, over achievement, or seeking validation through social media. This is a sign that we are not secure in our own self-worth, and it can lead to feelings of emptiness and pain. It is only when we truly believe that God’s love is unconditional that we can begin to accept our own worth and love ourselves. Main points: God approves and affirms us. God's love is unconditional. God is our Father and supporter. Believe in what God says about you.

The Testimony of Jake Roseboom: How Going to Jail Changed His Life

4/10/2023
The Testimony of Jake Roseboom: How Going to Jail Changed His Life This podcast features Jake Roseboom, who shares the story of how he encountered the living God in jail, leading to a powerful transformation in his life. The guest recounts growing up in a Christian family, not understanding the need to have his sins forgiven until he heard God speak to him at age 12. Jake then recalls the pastor's surprise when he knocked on the door in the middle of the night, proclaiming he wanted to be saved. – Main Points: Experimental knowledge of Jesus. Look to God in hardship. God is always with us. Trust God in all things. God brings revival through prayer. Give it to God. Seek more Jesus. -- Experiential knowledge of Jesus Experiential knowledge of Jesus is one of the most powerful ways to get to know Him. It is the knowledge that comes from personal experiences and interactions with Jesus. Experiential knowledge of Jesus is not just about reading the Bible and memorizing scripture, but it is about having a face-to-face encounter with Jesus and understanding His heart. Jake Roseboom, the guest on the podcast, experienced this firsthand. He was raised in a Christian home, went to a private Christian school, and had a lot of family members who were involved in gospel music. Despite this, he never had a real encounter with Jesus until he went to jail for six months. It was during this time that he had a powerful encounter with the living God that changed him forever. After his experience, Jake prayed that everyone would have a face-to-face encounter with Jesus. He knew that once you meet him and understand his heart and how much he loves us, there is no going back. Experiential knowledge of Jesus is something that cannot be taught, but rather something that must be experienced. Prior to his encounter with Jesus, Jake was a rebel and did terrible things. He was a delinquent and did not understand who he was. After his encounter, he found peace and knew that the only way to get it was to go to the pastor and tell him he wanted to be saved. After saying the sinner's prayer, he felt a peace come over him that he had never felt before.
