76: Money (does that activate your nervous system?) with Lynda McDonell

6/23/2025
Send us a text This week, we’re discussing something many of us don’t love to talk about: money. Whether your missionary is preparing to leave, has just come home, or is years away from that season, how we think, speak, and feel about money matters—and it affects our kids more than we realize. I brought in money coach Lynda McDonell to help us take a gentler, clearer look at how we can teach financial responsibility without shame, create independence without enabling, and stop letting money be a source of fear or drama. We explore: Lynda also shares her unique upbringing—growing up on Canada’s version of Wall Street—and how it shaped her work today, helping women own their value, their work, and their wealth. 🔗 Follow Lynda on Instagram: @piqueprosperity 📌 Join the waitlist for Missionary Mom Academy, launching in July: https://forms.gle/JmqV5VcZXV72vpov7 Let’s untangle some of the money drama—one honest, grace-filled conversation at a time. 6/2/2025

72: Your Thoughts Are the Story

5/19/2025
Send us a text Hi friends—welcome back! Quick life update: I started a new job, met some great people, and explored new parts of Utah. But while I was away, my husband mentioned there were big storms in St. Louis—right where my son is serving. My old patterns of worry kicked in, but this time, I caught it. I reminded myself: I trust him. I trust God. It’s going to be okay. That’s what inspired today’s episode. We’re talking about the quiet, sneaky thoughts running in the background—thoughts that shape how we experience everything. President Nelson’s invitation to Think Celestial isn’t just a spiritual idea—it’s a practical tool for the moments when your mind starts spinning. Today, I’ll teach you how to: Is this thought lifting me higher or pulling me lower? We’ll explore real-life examples and simple ways to change the stories your brain loves to repeat. And we’ll anchor this in Philippians 4:8—think on these things. God isn’t asking for perfect thinking. Just one thought higher. If this resonated with you, send me a DM or email. I love hearing how these episodes land for you! Have a beautiful week, and I’ll see you next time. 71: Growing Pains

5/12/2025
Send us a text Hello, sweet friends. This podcast is my little love project, poured straight from my heart to yours. Whether you’ve been here from the start or just found me, I’m so grateful you’re here. If there’s ever a topic you’re struggling with that I haven’t covered, please reach out—I’d love to hear from you. My email is in the show notes, and you can always DM me on Instagram. Hearing from you is my favorite part of this work. Today, we’re talking about growing pains—the kind that stretch your heart, not just your body. When we send our missionaries out into the world, they grow—but so do we. And just like those tender moments when our babies teethed or their legs ached from growth spurts, this kind of growth is often painful. But that pain? It’s not a sign something’s wrong. It’s a sign something sacred is happening. We’ll explore why life is about growing again and again, why struggle is part of the plan, and how both you and your missionary are becoming something more—together, even if you’re far apart. I share personal stories, the honest wrestle of letting go, and powerful reminders from Elder Oaks, President Nelson, and Elder Uchtdorf to help you reframe pain as part of your divine journey. So take a deep breath, mama. You’re not alone. You’re becoming. And it’s holy work. If this episode resonates with you, I’d love to hear about it. And if you’re walking through your own growing pains, remember—some blessings come soon, some come late, and some don’t come until heaven. But they do come. Bonus: A Grace Filled Mother's Day

5/11/2025
Send us a text Happy Mother’s Day, my sweet friends. Today, I’m doing something I’ve never done before—sharing a bonus episode just for you. Mother’s Day has sometimes felt more tender than joyful if you're anything like me. Maybe you’ve heard that loud, critical voice in your head reminding you of every misstep, every moment you weren’t enough. But what if today, we rebelled against that voice? What if we chose grace instead of shame? Join me for a few deep breaths and a heartfelt reminder: you are enough, exactly as you are, right now. You don’t have to run faster than you have strength. You don’t have to earn your worthiness. And you don’t have to be perfect to be the perfect mom for your children. In this episode, I share my own tender Mother’s Day memories with my missionaries—including a surprise bouquet all the way from Zimbabwe—and why this year, I’m inviting you to make Mother’s Day about you. Celebrate the unseen moments, the silent prayers, the way you keep showing up even when it’s hard. Take a moment today to breathe, place your hand over your heart, and say out loud, “I am enough.” Because you are. You always have been. Happy, peaceful, grace-filled Mother’s Day. P.S. If you have a quiet moment today, write down how you’re feeling and a few ways you’re learning to extend grace to yourself. That’s the kind of tradition worth starting. 70: "Dear Mission President, Please Don't Judge My Kid"

5/5/2025
Send us a text Ever had the urge to email your missionary’s mission president to explain your child’s quirks, apologize for 18 years of parenting, and offer a few disclaimers? Yeah… me too. In today’s episode, we’re lightening things up and learning to laugh at the moments that usually send us into a shame spiral. Because let’s face it—sometimes the best medicine for a panicked mom brain is a little humor, especially when the situation is really just burnt toast, not a house fire. Here’s what we cover: truerWe wrap it all up with a story from a college professor that reminds us why taking life too seriously can be dangerous—and why lightening up is sometimes the most spiritual thing we can do. This one’s for every mom who’s ever wanted to fix, explain, or defend—and is learning to laugh instead. ✨ Bonus Challenge: Write your own “Dear President” letter (but don’t send it). 69: Loneliness Can be Sacred

4/28/2025
Send us a text When the house is quiet and the calendar emptier than it's ever been, loneliness can feel like a fog that won't lift. In this episode, I’m sharing my personal experience with that soul-deep ache—especially after sending off my youngest missionary and transitioning out of full-time motherhood. We’re not talking about the kind of loneliness that a girls’ night can fix. We're talking about the kind that sneaks in during dinner-for-one, lingers in the silence, and makes you question your worth and purpose. Here’s what we dive into: feelingI also share a story about fear, surgery, and a wise yoga teacher that helped me shift how I move through hard emotions. If you’re in a season of quiet, emptiness, or transition, this episode is here to remind you: you are not broken, you're not behind, and you're not alone. ✨ Book a free consult with me if you’re ready for more support. 68: Balancing Having a Missionary and Aging Parents

4/21/2025
Send us a text This episode is for the women in the middle—the ones answering emails from missionaries while navigating doctor appointments with aging parents. The ones holding everyone’s emotions, while their own heart quietly stretches and breaks. Today we talk about how to stay anchored when life pulls you in opposite directions. You'll learn: onto your brainWe’re not here to spiritually bypass hard things. We're here to show up, even when it’s messy. You’ll hear the mindset shift I use to avoid resentment (even during fast and testimony meeting 😉) and how to protect your energy without pretending everything is fine. This is deep work—but it's the kind that leaves you feeling steady, empowered, and like you. And as always, your missionary doesn’t need a perfect mom. They need a real one. 67: Don't Waste A Good Crisis

4/14/2025
Send us a text Hey friends—Michelle here. This episode was born from a simple quote: “Never waste a good crisis.” At first, it sounds counterintuitive—maybe even insensitive. But what if it’s actually one of the most empowering invitations we’re ever given? I’m joined again by my brother Travis, and together we unpack what happens when life flips upside down—when your missionary leaves, comes home early, struggles in the field, or when life back home brings its own heartbreaks. We talk about how disorienting those moments can be, and how they’re also doorways to growth, deeper connection, and a whole new level of understanding. We share personal stories about our mom’s cancer diagnosis, kids leaving the Church, the emotional earthquake of dropping off a missionary—and how all of it became sacred ground for change. If you're in the middle of something hard right now, you're not alone. Your crisis isn’t evidence something has gone wrong—it might just be the thing that opens your heart to something more. Let’s learn how to mine the gold from the rubble, feel deeply without drowning, and become the bomb-proof horses we needed when our worlds cracked open. 4/7/2025

65: Self Sabotage

3/31/2025
Send us a text You set a goal, make a plan, feel excited… and then sabotage it. Procrastination, excuses, distractions—we all do it. But why? Why We Self-Sabotage: 💡 It’s a worthiness issue. We only allow ourselves to succeed at the level we believe we deserve. 💡 Fear keeps us small. Success brings change, and change feels risky. 💡 More effort isn’t the answer. If you don’t believe you’re worthy of good things, you’ll block them—no matter how hard you try. For Missionary Moms: If you’re stuck in stress and worry, ask yourself: ✨ Am I making things harder than they need to be? ✨ Do I feel guilty resting while my missionary struggles? ✨ Am I afraid that if I stop worrying, I won’t be a “good” mom? Here’s the truth: Your peace helps them more than your stress ever will. How to Break the Cycle: ✔ Notice the pattern without shame. ✔ Practice receiving—compliments, rest, joy. ✔ Take one small action that aligns with your worth. Start today: Pause, breathe, and remind yourself I am worthy of good things. 💙 If this episode spoke to you, share it with another missionary mom who needs it! 64: Why Self Confronting is Growth

3/24/2025
Send us a text What happens when your expectations for your missionary’s experience don’t match reality? How do you handle the fear, frustration, and even resentment that can arise when things don’t go as planned? In this episode, I dive into the powerful concept of self-confrontation—the ability to see yourself and your emotions without judgment honestly. I share my journey of navigating fear and trauma during my son’s mission, how it shaped my nervous system, and why self-awareness is the key to growth. We’ll talk about the difference between self-reflection and shame, noticing when you’re stuck in blame or avoidance, and simple ways to shift into a place of clarity, strength, and resilience. 63: Helping Your Missionary Through Discouragement

3/17/2025
Send us a text Every missionary experiences discouragement at some point, and as moms, we feel it too. When our missionary calls home saying, “I don’t know if I’m cut out for this,” or “I don’t feel like I belong here,” our instinct is to fix it. But what if our job isn’t to fix their discouragement but to help them see their worth—no matter what? In this episode, we dive into how we (and our missionaries) often tie our worth to external validation—success, numbers, obedience, or even how well we support our kids. Inspired by Worthy by Jamie Kern Lima, we explore: Missionary work isn’t about proving anything—it’s about becoming something. And the same is true for us. 61: Your Worth Isn’t Earned—It’s Already Yours

3/3/2025
Send us a text So many of us unknowingly tie our worth to what we do—our achievements, our callings, even how our kids turn out. But the truth is, self-worth and self-confidence are not the same thing—and if we don’t understand the difference, we’ll keep chasing external validation that never quite fills the gap. In this episode, we’re diving into: ✔️ The difference between self-worth and self-confidence ✔️ Why external achievements (like temple recommend worthiness, appearance, or service) don’t define your inherent worth ✔️ How perfectionism is just an attempt to "earn" self-worth—and why that never works ✔️ A powerful mindset shift that separates your worthiness from your actions 💡 You don’t have to do more, be more, or achieve more to be worthy. You already are. If this episode resonates, share it with another missionary mom or friend who needs this reminder. And if you’re working on shifting your self-worth, tag me on Instagram—I’d love to hear how this is landing for you! #MissionaryMoms #SelfWorth #YouAreEnough #LDSLife #Worthy Share your missionary stories where you agree to allow me to share them: michellesevans.coach@gmail.com Missionary Mom Journal: https://www.amazon.com/Missionary-Mom-Chronicles-Michelle-Evans/dp/B0CFZ9GZS8/ref=sr_1_4?crid=2FMSPY3SBZMDG&keywords=missionary+mom+journal&qid=1704483351&sprefix=missionary+mom+journa%2Caps%2C181&sr=8-4 Meet with me for additional mission support. 60: 4 Pillars to Feeling Like You Again

2/24/2025
Send us a text Your nervous system is not being dramatic—it’s doing its job, constantly asking, "Are we safe?" And when your missionary leaves, that question can send you into stress overdrive. Whether you're lying awake composing emails to the mission president at 2 a.m. or zoning out on social media, your body is just trying to cope. But here’s the good news: You can get back to steady, sane, and like yourself again with four science-backed (and surprisingly simple) tools: ✔️ Sleep – Your brain’s reset button. Learn why it’s the first thing to go and how to reclaim it. ✔️ Sunlight – The free mood booster that helps regulate your stress. ✔️ Movement – Shake off stress (literally) and reset your system like nature intended. ✔️ Breath – Your built-in calming tool—if you actually use it! We’ll talk about how these tools helped me during my son’s home MTC, why tracking my reactions changed everything, and how one small shift can make a big difference in how you show up—for your missionary and yourself. ✨ Take a deep breath, mama. You’ve got this. 🔄 Save this episode & share it with another missionary mom who needs it! #MissionaryMoms #LDSMission #NervousSystemReset #MindfulParenting Share your missionary stories where you agree to allow me to share them: michellesevans.coach@gmail.com Missionary Mom Journal: https://www.amazon.com/Missionary-Mom-Chronicles-Michelle-Evans/dp/B0CFZ9GZS8/ref=sr_1_4?crid=2FMSPY3SBZMDG&keywords=missionary+mom+journal&qid=1704483351&sprefix=missionary+mom+journa%2Caps%2C181&sr=8-4 Meet with me for additional mission support. 59: What I Wish I Had Taught My Missionary Before They Left

2/17/2025
Send us a text Sending a missionary out is exciting, but there are always things we realize after they leave that we wish we had covered. In this episode, I’m sharing what I missed and what I got right before sending my missionaries into the field—so you can prepare yours just a little better. From cooking basics (trust me, pasta isn’t as foolproof as you’d think!) to packing food for long days, to the importance of reading scriptures out loud, I’m giving you all the small but essential things that will make your missionary’s transition smoother. Plus, I’ll share a few game-changing tips—like sending them with familiar spices and teaching them how to repair their suit pants (because somehow, they always split at the thighs). And most importantly, I want you to know: Whatever you feel as you send them off—excitement, anxiety, overwhelm—it’s all valid. You’re not alone in this journey. Resources & Takeaways: ✔️ Teach your missionary how to cook staple foods: pasta, rice, eggs, and meat. ✔️ Show them how to pack food for long days outside the apartment. ✔️ Practice basic sewing—because pants will rip! ✔️ Send them with familiar spices to make food taste like home. ✔️ Have them read scriptures out loud to strengthen confidence and pronunciation. ✔️ Write handwritten letters—they mean more than you think. If this episode resonated with you, share it with a fellow missionary mom! And tag me—I’d love to hear how you’re preparing your missionary. 💛 You’ve got this, and you’re not alone. 58: Conversation Lulls

2/10/2025
Send us a text Have you ever found yourself on a call with your missionary and hit an awkward lull in the conversation? Maybe they’re giving one-word answers, or they just want to sit in silence. It can be frustrating, but it doesn’t have to be! In this episode, I’m sharing strategies to help your missionary (or any of your kids) open up and talk—while also helping you listen better. We’ll explore: ✔️ Why some missionaries seem chatty while others hold back ✔️ The role of nervous system regulation in meaningful conversations ✔️ How to prepare yourself emotionally before a call ✔️ Open-ended questions that invite deeper discussion ✔️ The power of reflective listening and creating a safe space Plus, I’ll share insights from communication experts like The Lost Art of Listening by Michael P. Nichols and We Need to Talk by Celeste Headlee, along with real-life examples from my own experience as a missionary mom. No matter how your missionary communicates, your presence and support matter. Tune in for practical tools to keep your calls feeling connected, supportive, and meaningful! If you found this episode helpful, share it with another missionary mom who might need it.
