Love is a choice. Hate is a choice. Bad behaviors and attitudes are a choice and many people today are making the choice to act out in negative ways just because they can. Some would argue that people who do these things have trauma, issues, past hurts... maybe that's true, but we all have those things. Yet, some of us choose love instead. There are so many ways to show love to others and I believe that if more people chose love, the world would be such a better place. So much of where we are in the world and as humans is due to a lack of a willingness, or a know-how to love. As with anything else that we need in life, praying for what we need is a part of the solution. If you are struggling to feel loved, remember that God loves you. If you are struggling to love others, remember how God loves you. If you are struggling to love the world because of all of it's negativity, remember how God loves you. To help you and me to remember that no material possessions or worldly gains can go with us into eternity, but that love lasts forever... here is a prayer for love. It's a new Year and I know we are feeling like we are ready for fresh starts, but wait before you set that resolution or goal. I'd like to suggest that you don't need to find yourself because you were never lost! We were all meant to become someone very specific and amazingly great in our own unique way. I grew up in a time where telling somone to "shut up," versing asking them to be quiet was considered cursing them out! It was guaranteed to get you either a fight or a spanking. Ok black people, Derek Chauvin is guilty! I believe he is guilty as well so it's ok that we feel like we've finally gotten some justice. But, now what??? Is that enough for us? Or, should we start looking at self...individually and as a whole culture and decide what we can do to HEAL, HELP, & LOVE ourselves and each other! We say we no longer want or need masters. Being Genuine ain't easy! You will be persecuted for it because it's not what the world is used to. But, in order to be your iconic self, your best you, the very best version of you, and who you were created to be, you must become okay with being persecuted. It's a difficult, lonely walk that makes you want to isolate, stay to yourself, and keep all your gifts for the world to yourself... but you can't. Many seek to create generational wealth but few work for, invest in, or pursue generational health! There are people walking around with pockets, and bank accounts full of money who are generationally unhealthy and who are creating generationally unhealthy, though wealthy, children. For many, as long as they have money, they don't care about their physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual health. Listen, I get it... the "Speak Your Truth," Movement has given people all over the world, what they feel like is the voice they've never had. I am all for that, but I also recognize that many of them, after they speak their truth have a difficult time living it. Why is that? Our world has become very much okay with us speaking our truth, but very few are okay with the people around them livning their truth. We have to learn to stop being afraid of living our truth because if not we will end up becoming the cowards who watch from the shadows as others attempt, fail at, and succeed at living theirs! You never want to end up being the "cowards who rejoice when heros stumble," as my man Dave Chappelle put it. These cowards choose to be cowards because they are not courageous enough to do what the hero attempts. I want to share with you how you can be courageous enough to live your truth! People are always searching for something outside of themselves. They want to connect with influential people who can help them get to the next level. In doing so, they often set themselves up to be used, hurt and abused. They don't see that they are the person they need! On the other hand, you have those who are aware that they are influential and they abuse others or only associate or connect with them when they assess their value as being worthy of such associations or connections. This means that they often leave very gifted, kind, and genuine people on the cutting room floor so to speak, which in turn can break their spirits and leave them discouraged. When we were younger, we were most likely warned by the adults in our lives to be careful of whom we choose to spend our time with. They said this in reference to the way others would judge us in accordance to our friends, in addition to the influence our friends would have upon us. We have all heard the saying that birds of a feather flock together... this message was drilled into me by a 5th grade teacher, Mrs. Anderson. She meant that the fundamental life lesson that the company you keep reflects your personality would affect the outcomes of my life. It's a fact that a smart person surrounds himself with other smart people. It's also a fact that if you hang out with trash, you will be perceived as trash.
