Recover and Thrive

Religion & Spirituality Podcas

This program is about regaining and maintaining health and wellness through diet, lifestyle, and faith in God. Our instruction is based on eight foundational principles of health, recovery, and wellness. The typical diet and lifestyles for the United States of America is damaging to health, and the orthodox medical system does little more than stabilize a sick body. It has been said that we eat food produced by an industry that knows nothing about medicine, and we receive medical care from an industry that cares little to nothing about food. We will discuss the state of health and disease, recovery from disease, nutrition, the role of sunshine, fresh air, exercise, proper use of water, rest, self-control and trust in God. Herbal medicine will be addressed, but I am slow to recommend and use herbs, since they do not heal the body unless the proper lifestyle changes have been made. The perspective is that of a Naturopathic Physician, not a dietician.

Recovery from Disease

12/17/2020
In this program, we outline the process of recovery from illness or disease using natural methods. These techniques and procedures were developed before antibiotics were known, but they worked then and they work now. Even though the recommendations require bed rest and fasting, they are still the surest way to recovery from many serious illnesses. Many people have died because they have continued to work, eat, and stay active even though they were ill with life threatening conditions. Modern pharmaceutical medicine does wonders for stabilizing medical crisis conditions and comforting the patient, but in the case of lingering illness, comfort can kill. Join us as we discuss how to not only recover, but drive the disease out of the body.

Conquering High Blood Pressure

12/10/2020
Vast numbers of people in the world live with high blood pressure, but there are others who do not suffer from this disease of affluence. High blood pressure is the forerunner of other deadly diseases, such as diabetes, strokes, aneurysms, congestive heart failure, kidney failure, etc. The good news is that this does not have to be you! Diet and lifestyle have much to do with the outcome. Even though the subject is involved, the solutions to each condition overlap greatly, so that solving one problem will bring relief to other associated conditions as well. Listen in, or send an email to prompt us to answer related questions. We enjoy having you with us.

Poisons Bites and Stings

12/3/2020
Spiders, snakes, wasps, etc. are not on the must see list for most people, but they are a fact of life. We may go many years without meeting up with a nasty surprise from nature, but they do happen. What do you do when the encounter happens? Is there a way to avoid being bitten? We will spend most of our attention on the brown recluse spider, since we have a lot of experience dealing with these bites, but stay around for our discussion of some other pests that may find their way into your life or the life of someone you care for.

Spiritual Roots of Disease

11/19/2020
Though it is obvious that accidents, poor decisions, and wear can cause sickness, there are deeper roots to chronic and what are called incurable diseases. These involve more than chemistry and physics. In order to deal with such diseases, spiritual causes must be sought and rooted out. Chronic inflammation and clinical depression may be caused by more than what meets the eye. Christian natural medicine has a perspective that is both ancient and up to date. We are fallen creatures, living in a world that is at war with God and with truth itself. Though the struggle is invisible, it is none the less real. Attitudes such as fear, anger, unforgiveness, worry, guilt, and shame have powerful effects on the body, even for generations. Join us as we discuss what the Bible has to say about our health and well being.

Flu and COVID-19

11/12/2020
Last week we covered common cold remedies in light of the Eight Laws of Health. We also spent some time discussing COVID-19. The remedies for COVID-19 are similar to those for cold and flu, with the addition of blood thinners and antioxidants. This week we will continue developing the topic, but we will cover the flu as well as the application of the Eight Laws of Health to the treatment of COVID-19. There are reports that though the virus is spreading like the common cold, the mortality rates are dropping to near those seen for the seasonal flu. The disease is still dangerous for those with compromised circulation, including Diabetes, Hypertension, and high Cholesterol, but for those who are prepared, it is not the scary mystery disease that it was this past spring. Join us as we discuss natural treatments that are remarkably effective.

Treatment of Colds, Flu, and Covid-19

11/5/2020
We are entering flu season, but there are things that you can do to both protect yourself and to overcome colds, flu, and even COVID-19. There are natural methods of mitigating the inflammation and clotting that characterize a COVID Infection, though we will not be giving medical advice. Though cold and flu are usually associated with one of the hundreds of varieties of virus, they are mainly the body's means of correcting a mismanagement of your health. Soundness of spirit, soul, and body depend on foundations of health that are so stable that they can be called laws of health. Join us as we discuss how you can overcome respiratory disease and come out of it rejoicing in the goodness of God!

Move or Die! (The Exercise Your Body Needs)

10/29/2020
Few topics that health enthusiasts obsess over are more loved and hated than exercise. It is the centerpiece for many diet programs, and is at the heart of any strength training program. Many programs are fads, but the underlying reality is that we must either move or die. The body requires a certain amount of activity to keep the cardiovascular and respiratory systems working properly. Muscles obviously need to be flexed, stretched, and rested. But the bones also are designed to bear weight. If they don't, they will de-calcify quickly. Without healthy blood, every other organ will begin to fail. Even former athletes will deteriorate and die of diseases typical of a sedentary lifestyle unless there is some form of regular physical activity. Join us as we discuss the most loved and hated aspect of health maintenance.

The Air We breathe, Much More than You Think It Is.

10/22/2020
Most of us seldom give attention to the air that we are breathing unless something calls attention to it. But much more sickness is caused by poor quality air than is generally thought possible. Though many of us are trapped in an environment that presents poor air quality, there are things that we can do to lessen the effects of depleted or polluted air. It does matter where you choose to live and what kind of house you occupy. However, even if you live or work in a sub-optimal atmosphere, which most of us do, there are things that you can do to recover from the slow suffocation that many people experience at work, at home, or in their sleep. Join us and learn about the air that most of us take for granted but should not.

Water: The Essential Medium of Life, Health, and Cleansing

10/15/2020
Next to air, water is the most essential substance to life. Our bodies are composed largely of water and we are not able to tolerate even the loss of 10% without serious degradation in the function of everything from the brain to the blood. Water is a hydrant, a lubricant, a solvent, and a cleaning agent. Outside of the body, we use water to bathe, washing toxic substances from the body. We also use water in our worship of God symbolically in baptism and repentance. A good bath is as good for the soul as it is for the body. It does not redeem us, but is an act of faith toward cleansing. Water also has the ability to redirect the flow of blood in our bodies by its ability to transfer heat into or out of portions of the body. Blood flow follows these temperature changes. This Hydrotherapy has been known and used for centuries. It is surprisingly effective in healing.

Healthy Lifestyle; What to Avoid

10/8/2020
There is more to being healthy than adding good habits to your lifestyle! There are things on the Must Avoid list. Most people will not be surprised by many of the topics, because we all know the Usual Suspects. But knowing to do good and going what you know are very different things. Many of the things discussed do not seem important, but the effects of bad habits are cumulative and can overwhelm careful work toward building health. Though the what to avoid list is extensive and obvious, to many, hearing it with an intent to do can add many years to your life. Health can be looked at as physical, though there is much more to it than chemistry and physics. Wholeness on the other hand is spiritual more than physical. We are spiritual beings, but we need God's help to be whole.

What Can I Eat to Retain Health

10/1/2020
We discuss foods that maintain and build health. These are fruits, vegetables, grains, nuts, seeds, healthy fats, sweeteners, and supplements. We will discuss how these foods support each other in the building of a healthy diet with an eye to proper food combinations. We also vary the foods, thus avoiding appetite exhaustion. We will also discuss juicing, since many people are not able to tolerate raw vegetables in any quantity. Juicing is a wonderful means of obtaining concentrated nutrition from more vegetables than we can eat at one sitting if we were to consume the vegetables whole. Other nutrients, such as salt, Dulce, seasoning herbs, and vitamin/mineral supplements are also discussed as part of the nutritional whole.

Introducing Natural Medicine.

9/24/2020
Health is based on eight foundational laws which, though conceptually simple, require personal responsibility to live out. We will discuss what Naturopathy is in contrast to Holistic wellness. Since food is so important to health, we will discuss some examples of foods to seek out and foods to avoid. We will then discuss the effects of food combinations on successful digestion.
