Psalm 43: Truth and Light

6/25/2021
Psalm 43 Yesterday, Andrew and Edwin discussed how to maintain faithfulness when we aren't hearing the answers to our praying. However, today they notice that God did in fact answer this son of Korah's prayer. It just came much later than perhaps the psalmist was expecting. It's a good Friday on Text Talk, and the title of this episode is "Truth and Light." Can you guess what the answer to the prayer is? Or perhaps we should ask can you guess WHO the answer to this psalmist's prayer is?...

Psalm 43: When You Aren't Hearing Any Answers

6/24/2021
Psalm 43 Many people struggle when it seems their prayers aren't being answered. Andrew and Edwin notice that is exactly the situation Korah's son is in in Psalms 42 and 43. He keeps praying, but he isn't hearing an answer. He expects one. But he hasn't heard one yet. Edwin and Andrew recognize two powerful actions taken by Korah's son that allows him to continue serving the Lord even when he isn't hearing any answers. Psalm 43: Vindicate! But Why?

6/23/2021
Psalm 43 Andrew and Edwin see the request Korah's son makes in Psalm 43, but what intrigues and impresses them more is why. The psalmist isn't looking for mere relief, mere happiness, mere comfort. Psalm 43: Highs and Lows

6/22/2021
Psalm 43 Yesterday, Andrew and Edwin recognized the connection between Psalm 43 and Psalm 42. When we read them together, we see the Psalmist's past, present, and expected future. We see how that particular son of Korah viewed his life. It was a series of highs and lows. Sometimes, he was leading folks around to praise God. Other times, he was being led around in oppression and mourning. Edwin and Andrew see this picture of life and discuss two mistakes we often make regarding how to view...

Psalm 43: Third Verse, Not Like the First

6/21/2021
Psalm 43 Andrew and Edwin discuss the connections between Psalm 42 and Psalm 43. They clearly go together. Were they originally one psalm? Possibly. But then again, maybe we learn something even more profound if we see Psalm 43 as a later addition to 42. Read the written devo that goes along with this episode by clicking here. Psalm 42: Where is Your God?

6/18/2021
Psalm 42 The son of Korah is asked twice where his God is. Essentially, "If you and God are so tight, why is this happening to you? Why isn't He doing something about it?" Does that sound like something anyone else you know faced? Of course, this is a Friday episode, so you already know who Andrew and Edwin will be talking about today. Jesus Himself faced this exact same kind of questioning. Read the written devo that goes along with this episode by clicking here. Let us know what you...

Psalm 42: Thank God for the New Covenant

6/17/2021
Psalm 42 Andrew and Edwin consider the turmoil the son of Korah is in because he can't get to the temple. Then, they recognize what an amazing blessing we have because we in the New Covenant will never, ever have this problem because we are the temple. Thank God for the New Covenant. Psalm 42: If You Don't Like the Weather...

6/16/2021
Psalm 42 Edwin highlights a common saying he's heard everywhere he lives from people who act like where they live is the only place it happens. Perhaps you've heard it. "If you don't like the weather here, just wait five minutes, it'll change." Ever heard that? Andrew and Edwin discuss how it sums up Psalm 42. The first half of the psalm is in the middle of a drought. The latter half is in the middle of a flood. Either way, God is actually still present. Read the written devo that goes...

Psalm 42: What Happened to the Streams?

6/15/2021
Psalm 42 Andrew and Edwin take a look at the contrast between how Book I and Book II of the Psalms start. Book I starts with trees by streams of water. Book II starts with deer panting because there are not streams. What's that about? Read the written devo that goes along with this episode by clicking here. Psalm 42: It's Not about Your Parents

6/14/2021
Psalm 42 We are now moving into Book II of the Psalms. This first psalm has a new author. Almost all the psalms in Book I were written by David. This one is attributed to the sons of Korah. But do you know anything about Korah? Andrew and Edwin talk about how amazing it is that Korah's descendants get to write psalms. They even reveal the most famous of Korah's descendants. If you don't already know, it will probably surprise you. Read the written devo that goes along with this episode by...

Psalm 41: Don't Be a Heel

6/11/2021
Psalm 41 Jesus Himself said this psalm was about him and about Judas. Judas is the close friend who ate bread with Him and lifted his heel against Him. Judas was a heel. Andrew and Edwin talk about the connections between the psalm and Jesus. They also discuss what this means for us. We must not be like Judas, we need to be like Peter. Don't be a heel. Psalm 41: Who is in Control?

6/10/2021
Psalm 41 When David's enemies claim a deadly thing has come upon him, their choice of words may actually tell more than we see. Their word is connected to "Belial." They may be suggesting David is being attacked by an unclean spirit. Andrew and Edwin discuss the details of that possibility, the options to consider, the overall point that despite what the enemies say, actually, Yahweh is in control as He is in all the Psalms. Psalm 41: My Enemies

Psalm 41: Lord, Be Gracious

6/8/2021
Psalm 41 Because God considers the poor, the weak, the helpless, the powerless, the needy, David knows where he can turn during his time of weakness. He has sinned. He is sick. His enemies are against him. He turns to the Lord. He seeks grace and mercy. Andrew and Edwin discuss how it is difficult to seek grace and mercy, but why we can and should seek it. They wrap up with a look at the fact that grace is unmerited, but it is conditional. Oh, yeah, and Happy Anniversary Andrew and...

Psalm 41: Who is Blessed?

6/7/2021
Psalm 41 The most common interpretation of Psalm 41 is that the person or human who considers the poor is blessed by God. That may be what David was saying. However, Edwin and Andrew discuss another possibility. It's a possibility that makes this psalm more about how great God is than how great David is. Psalm 40: A Body for an Ear

6/4/2021
Psalm 40 Edwin reads an English translation of the Septuagint of Psalm 40 (actually it's Psalm 39 in the Septuagint). That is important because in this episode Andrew and Edwin find Jesus. Actually, Jesus is thrust upon us by the Hebrew writer who quotes this psalm and applies it to Jesus. However, he quotes from the Septuagint. And there is a difference between the Septuagint and the Hebrew manuscripts that we have. That difference leads us to Jesus. Read the written devo that goes along...

6/3/2021
Psalm 40 Edwin and Andrew take a little detour to discuss songs that impacted them as young people that this psalm reminds them of. Then they discuss that part of the psalm about the scroll of the book that is talking about the psalmist. What is that? It's the part of the Law that was actually talking directly to David, the king. Psalm 40: Well, Lord, Here I Am Again

5/31/2021
Psalm 40 This psalm seems to have two completely different parts.
