Taylor Catterall REVISITED

2/29/2024
The boxer’s world is very different to that of any other profession. In a fight - minutes seem like hours and in the fight business - hours seem like days etc. So with everything else that has transpired in the boxing world since Josh Taylor & Jack Catterall first fought - fans would be forgiven if the details were a bit cloudy. This episode was actually recorded in the immediate aftermath of the fight between Josh Taylor & Jack Catterall where the contentious scoring & controversial result brought outrage & over reaction levels to a new level. We hear from 2 former world champions George Groves & Wayne McCullough - both of whom know all too well what it feels like to be on the wrong end of a controversial decision. in Association with 🎩 VIOLENT GENTLEMAN: violentgent20.com/ S O C I A L M E D I A 🕊 Twitter: @EnswellPodcast 📸 Instagram: https://tinyurl.com/ycbmz5vy 👤 facebook: https://tinyurl.com/y7b9q8jk 📹 YouTube: https://tinyurl.com/yn9jrfvu #boxing #JoshTaylor #JackCatterall #TaylorCatterall2 Hosted on Acast. Walking The Walk

1/23/2024
When we look through the history of boxing there are numerous legendary Irish names that feature prominently in both amateur AND paid ranks. Despite the highs and lows of a domestic scene, the peaks and troughs of popularity and support - there are still a couple of authentic, hard working & honest outposts. Gyms where folk can go to train for whatever fight they face next. For Keane McMahon, Ryan O’Rourke & John Cooney the fights are on high profile cards on a Star Boxing show in New York, or the Europa hotel in Belfast. For others - it’s a personal fight, a battle to get fit or a fight that nobody knows about. Regardless of the battle - O'Rourke's Gym is one of those authentic boxing gyms where pros, amateurs & keep fit fanatics all spill blood, sweat & tears under the watchful guise of the experienced Stephen O’Rourke. Have a listen as Al & Ian hear some of the many stories & get up close and personal at O'Rourke's Gym in Dublin. Boxing Segways

1/12/2024
As most of us begrudgingly emerge from the Christmas and new year slumber, the boxing world has been moving at a pace like never before. Its plain to see the Saudi Arabia 'trickle down' effect has been influential in reigniting the imagination of boxing fans all over the world. Irish boxing finished the year with two colossal shows in Dublin - where Katie Taylor managed to reinvent herself and even the score with Northampton girl Chantelle Cameron. Both champions, both icons and both inspiring countless young girls and boys not just in Ireland and the UK - but all over the globe in 2 fights which have truly given us EVERYTHING. Barely a week later Matchroom and Conlan Boxing brought us another live show, this time from Belfast featuring Mick Conlan v Jordan Gill as ther main event and an all Belfast battle between Tyrone McKenna and Lewis Crocker. In this episode Ian and Al look back over both cards as Ian talks about the atmosphere from inside the Three Arena where he watched with baited breath, The lads look over some other recent action for Irish fighters and speculate a little on what we might see in the coming weeks and months. in Association with 🎩 VIOLENT GENTLEMAN: violentgent20.com/ S O C I A L M E D I A 🕊 Twitter: @EnswellPodcast 📸 Instagram: https://tinyurl.com/ycbmz5vy 👤 facebook: https://tinyurl.com/y7b9q8jk 📹 YouTube: https://tinyurl.com/yn9jrfvu Hosted on Acast. A Comeback, A Catchup & Tribute To Hugh Russell

10/23/2023
In our first episode for over a year we take a helicopter view of Irish boxers and boxing and ask some questions that many are asking. IS there a reason for the recent downturn in performances and results? Is it a coaching issue? Style issue? Or are Irish boxers not as good as many believe them to be? We also take a look at the fractured chasm that opened up between two greats of Irish boxing. Barry McGuigan/s career in the ring is well documented. He gave a glimmer of hope to a divided island in troubled times when there was little hope. Many years later he would be the man at the helm as Carl Frampton delivered European and world titles in different weight divisions. In this episode we look a little closer and ask "Where did it all go wrong?" Hugh Russell won bronze medals at the 1978 Commonwealth Games in Edmonton, Canada and at the Olympic Games in Moscow 1980 then went on to have renowned careers as a professional boxer and press photographer. IN the week he was laid to rest, we paid tribute and remember an Irish boxing legend. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

NIALL

10/25/2022
Episode number 200 of Enswell Boxing and it couldn't be any more special. Al is joined again by friend of the show - Irish heavyweight boxer Niall Kennedy. Its no secret that boxing is the most uncompromising, unrelenting and sometimes unfulfilling crucibles of all. Indeed, its no secret you need to be disciplined, dedicated and sometimes deranged to want to be knocked down, trodden on, kicked, cut and bruised. Beaten and battered to the point where every ounce of your being pleads, screams...'ENOUGH'. And it's definitely no secret how dark the boxing world can be, with a cast of characters and bad actors lurking in the shadows willing, waiting and wanting to feed off boxers given half the chance. What may come as a surprise to some, is that amongst all of that you will find some oof the most genuine, honest, kind-hearted and REAL: people - of which no 2 are the same. Most will mask and hide all of those qualities to play the role of the Good, The Bad and the Ugly. Its what they have to do to survive. And then.........you meet Niall Kennedy! Have a listen as Niall's coach Pascal Collins and stablemates Spike O'Sullivan, Stephen Ormoind and Ray Moylette regale fond memories from the big man's career that saw him win an Irish Title, Massachusetts Title & New England Titl and in 2020 the WBC Hero of The World award for frontline services throughout the pandemic. We're also joined on this episode by former opponent Allen 'The Savage' Babic AND Niall's former teacher Grainne Mulcahy. 🟥 Off The Ball: https://tinyurl.com/djkwamab 🥊 enswellpod.com/ 🟪 Donate4Daithí: tinyurl.com/dsbhp2vy Sponsored by: 🎩 VIOLENT GENTLEMAN: violentgent20.com/ ☘️🥫 Irish Power Energy Drink: tinyurl.com/fc3cjbd5 🥊 Top PRO Boxing: tinyurl.com/ac45p3fa Hosted on Acast. Dennis Hogan's DESTINY after a Dark Week for Boxing

10/7/2022
In a world that appears to change by the day - at times it would seem that boxing is hell bent on refusing to! Yes there have been strides in terms of medical and safety protocol and boxers ARE required to comply with THE most stringent health checks, scans and indeed drug testing. Co-Host Binny Folen, fresh from his recent return to Ireland joins Al to discuss this and Saturday nights IBO Light Middleweight World Title showdown with Sam Egglington. O'Connell's dad was killed when she was only two. Her mum was taken by the drug scene. It’s not surprising Shannon O’Connell has gone on to become a fighter. AJ and The Circle of Sycophants

8/28/2022
Renowned British politician John Randolph once said ‘Like rotten mackerel by moonlight, he shines and stinks’ - a phrase that could very aptly describe Anthony Joshua’s performance during and after his latest battle with Oleksander Usyk in the King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. There were many questions surrounding both men going into fight week - much was said about the new look Anthony Joshua, the impact of Robert Garcia & indeed how Oleksander Usyk may be affected by the turmoil in his homeland. The questions were answered emphatically about Usyk, but we’ve been left with even more uncertainties surrounding AJ. Podcast Update & Best of Irish Luck and Love for Katie Taylor

4/30/2022
It's rare that boxing can make the back pages of reputable news papers around the world, its even more rare when it stretches across the front AND back pages multiple days in a row. Sadly, on this occasion it hasn't been for the reasons the great sport of boxing wants or deserves. This podcast has purposely and intentionally maintained radio silence over this time to allow the dust to settle and indeed to spend time researching to find out the who, what and wherefor's in this whole debacle. Believe it when I say - the tentacles of this story will stretch into areas and places that go WAY WAY beyond boxers and boxing and will open many eyes if not shock. For now, I wanted to take a moment to ensure all the loyal and good people who have followed my boxing podcast journey that I will be back with full length and detailed episodes in the coming days where we will review the recent fights and no doubt celebrate the one true bastion of Irish boxing that is left standing tall - Katie Taylor. 🛑 In the meantime please take a moment to click this link: https://tinyurl.com/2p8ek5c7 Subscribe to the YouTube Channel where we will also be bringing you new and vibrant content in the very near future, 🥊 And no matter what happens - wherever you arte, NEVER forget: "ALL's WELL THAT ENSWELL..."
