April 7, 1973 - Round 1 of the season is launched, North Melbourne beat Hawthorn - Wayne Schimmelbush plays the first of his 306 games. The VFL have also introduced the 'centre diamond' it lasted 2 seasons before it moved to a centre square. Wayne would go on to coach North in the early 90's for 66 matches
