A weekly podcast about Brighton and Hove Albion from the staff at the Brighton and Hove Independent

Bore Machine

Brighton are back! Defence is the best form of attack as 'boring boring' Brighton put Wolves to sleep to get a point then nearly repeat the feat at Tottenham at a time when every point is massive. Sam, Steve and Ian discuss those games and the potentially decisive weekend fixture against Newcastle.

The cup runneth over

Brighton may have lost the FA Cup semi-final but it didn't feel like much of a defeat. Sam and Steve pick the game against City apart and look ahead to the significant league fixtures coming up this week.

Making the most of a semi

This week's edition of Seagulls Weekly was recorded on Wednesday ahead of the Chelsea game, so find out Sam, Scott and Ian thought going into that match and looking forward to Wembley - and if Brighton have any chance of besting a rampant Man City. They also reluctantly take a second look at the dreadful defeat against Southampton days earlier.

March madness

Goals, a red card, a penalty shootout... Brighton's FA Cup quarter-final with Millwall provided plenty of talking points and that's without even mentioning VAR. Sam, Scott and Steve talk about the trip to the Den and look ahead to Wembley where the nice and straightforward task of beating Man City awaits.

Knock knock Knocky on heaven's door

Winning away is not something that Brighton do all that often so going to your arch-rivals and beating them on their home turf is a cause for celebration. Especially when the winning goalscorer could have been sent off in the first minute. Join Sam, Steve and Ian as they revel in Brighton's victory over Crystal Palace, look forward to the FA Cup quarterfinal trip to Millwall and discuss the wider world of football.

Laminate Florin

Brighton have won a league game in 2019! This is not a drill! Mark, Steve, Sam and Ian talk about Brighton's 1-0 win over Huddersfield. Oh, and the upcoming trip to some tinpot team called... Crystal something.

Leicester than ideal

Sloppy goals, a slow start and chances wasted? We're sensing a pattern. Sam Wilson takes the lead again this week with Steve Bailey and Scott McCarthy alongside him (and a fleeting cameo from Ian Hine) to discuss the defeat on the road at Leicester, the crucial upcoming game against Huddersfield and if it's time to panic. There's also talk about Brendan Rodgers' return to English football, Kepa saying sorry to Sarri and how far the juggernaut that is Manchester City can go. For more visit...

It's a full house this week as Mark takes the wheel and steers Steve, Sam and, when his internet is working, Ian. They dissect the Brighton performance against Frank Lampard's Derby County and discuss the cup draw. With no game until Tuesday there's also talk of who is hot and who is not this season.

VAR from safety

There's plenty for Sam and Steve to get through this week, starting with the defeat to Burnley and the Most Obvious Handball Of All Time™ that was missed by the officials. We also discuss the impending FA Cup game with Derby before discussing the relegation battle that Brighton are now a part of and assessing both ends of the Premier League table. For all the latest news visit

Squad rotation

As a fitting tribute to Brighton's FA Cup replay, it's a rotated lineup this week. With Mark and Steve away, Sam slides into the hotseat and is joined by Scott McCarthy of and, in spirit at least, by the technologically troubled Ian Hine. The aforementioned FA Cup replay is top of the agenda but there's more than one eye on the imminent visit of Burnley in the league. We also dip into the rest of the division to discuss Spurs' title credentials, Palace's disappointingly...

Mitro smash

It was all looking so good at half time, before Ranieri tinkered and Mitrovic smashed. Mark, Steve and Sam talk about the humbling second half collapse at Fulham and the impotent display against West Brom days earlier. Fair to say it hasn't been the greatest week for the Albion.

Paying the penalty. Again.

The gang are back to discuss another game against a big side in which Brighton concede an unnecessary penalty. We also look ahead to the FA Cup fourth round with the visit of West Brom who may find themselves facing a youthful Brighton side. It's not like the u23s had a game this week...

Tinker Tailer Solskjaer Spy

Thanks to a technical hiccup, the latest Seagulls Weekly is dropping into your earholes a day later than normal and so after the United game. But hey, at least you can listen with the benefit of hindsight to see just how right or wrong our Premier League predictions were. Also on the menu is the defeat to Liverpool, the departure of David Wagner at Huddersfield (that we'd said only a week earlier definitely wouldn't happen) and dip into the Championship to embrace Spygate.

Stop Klopp and roll

Seagulls Weekly is back from its winter break ahead of Brighton & Hove Albion's match with Premier League leaders Liverpool. Mark, Steve, Sam and Ian look back at the festive period, Albion's FA Cup win at Bournemouth, being drawn at home to West Brom, Jurgen Locadia's recent performances, aims for the rest of the season and more. Seagulls Weekly was recorded in front of a live Facebook audience... and the wi-fi can be blamed for a few spotty audio moments. Read more at:...

Hazard perception

The One Where Ten Men Destroy Palace

On this week's Seagulls Weekly Podcast, we talk about Albion's wins over Crystal Palace and Huddersfield, Florin Andone's stunning derby goal and more. We also discuss whether Brighton should be looking up the table rather than down, Yves Bissouma's recent performances and team news for Burnley. Read more at:

Red Leicester tough to swallow

On this week's Seagulls Weekly Podcast, we discuss Brighton & Hove Albion's draw with Leicester, diving in football, a minority of fans booing at the final whistle and more. Will Chris Hughton make changes for Saturday's match at Huddersfield? We discuss some of the options for Albion's boss and also look ahead to Tuesday's game with arch rivals Crystal Palace.

Propper Football

In this week's Seagulls Weekly Podcast, we discuss all things Brighton & Hove Albion from Lewis Dunk's England debut to Jurgen Locadia's comments in Dutch media. With Dale Stephens suspended for Saturday's match with Leicester, we talk about who will come into the team and if there will be any other changes. There's also a look at Albion's next four games - Leicester, Huddersfield, Crystal Palace and Burnley - and how many points Brighton should be looking to get....

VAR Wars

In the latest Seagulls Weekly we look at the good, the bad and the ugly from Cardiff and discuss whether officials need more help to make correct decisions. Mark, Steve, Sam and Ian also dip their toes into international waters ahead of Lewis Dunk’s potential England debut. Read more at:

Live and kicking

In the latest Seagulls Weekly, which was initially broadcast live on Facebook, Mark is joined by Steve, Sam and Ian to discuss the defeat against Everton and the trip to Cardiff. Away from the Albion, there is also talk of Rooney's 'testimonial' appearance for England which causes Sam a minor meltdown.
