The Rundown, Ep. 632 (4-16-24)

4/16/2024
Bryan Matthews, Caleb Jones, Brian Stultz, Henry Patton and Jay G. Tate reconvene at VooDoo to discuss important happenings in and around the Auburn program, which primarily centers on the TRANSFER PORTAL opening again for football. Brenton Williams already is headed out. What will Auburn look to add this time? Looks like the emphasis will be on the DL and at WR. Cannot rule out a QB, though. Basketball has been busy this week — with a point guard arriving and another leaving. Is BP preparing to basically run it back? Softball had a good weekend. Baseball did not. It's looking dire for the Fightin' Butches. The show ends with a delightful supply of commendations and shoutouts for the most outstanding members (this week) from The Bunker community. Great folks and a great community! The show is presented by VooDoo Wing Company with locations in Auburn, Mobile, Tuscaloosa, Florence, Charlotte and Las Vegas. The Rundown, Ep. 631 (4-9-24)

4/9/2024
Bryan Matthews, Caleb Jones, Brian Stultz, Henry Patton and Jay G. Tate reconvene at VooDoo to discuss important happenings in and around the Auburn program, which primary deals with a NEW APPAREL PARTNERSHIP with NIKE! When does this start? What does this mean for the bottom line? The Guys also review an A-Day practice that B-Matt judged as the most exciting he's seen. That's praise. He also offers his ideas about what could happen from a portal perspective during the next 2+ weeks. Defensive end Amaris Williams then stops by to say hello to Auburn fans! Football recruiting? Trending up. Caleb breaks down three players who could be the next to commit to the Tigers. Basketball recruiting (via the portal) appears to be going well, though that's more needed than ever now that Aden Holloway and Tre Donaldson both are in the portal. Baseball is languishing a bit — with postseason hopes already on the rocks. Softball is in the same boat. The show ends with a delicious arrangement of commendations and shoutouts for the most outstanding members (this week) from The Bunker community. Great folks and a great community! The Rundown, Ep. 630 (4-2-24)

4/2/2024
Bryan Matthews, Caleb Jones, Brian Stultz and Jay G. Tate reconvene at VooDoo to discuss important happenings in and around the Auburn program, which at this stage includes a spring football crescendo. There are only a few days left before A-Day! What have we learned? And which players have made the biggest impact so far? Lettuce discuss. The Guys then move on to football recruiting, which is going well with dozens of four- and five-star recruits having visited lately or planning to visit for A-Day. Basketball? KD Johnson is out. Bruce Pearl held an interesting press conference to defend himself and his players from criticsm after the Yale loss. Is that warranted? Who is actually mad at Bruce? Bryan then talks baseball, which is 1-8 in league play yet is not a bad team at all. Softball? Hmm. They're 3-9 in league play, but they may actually be bad. Mickey Dean is on his way out, though, so that's interesting. The show ends with a tightly curated array of commendations and shoutouts for the most outstanding members (this week) from The Bunker community. Great folks and a great community! The show is presented by VooDoo Wing Company with locations in Auburn, Mobile, Tuscaloosa, Florence, Charlotte and Las Vegas. 3/26/2024
Bryan Matthews, Caleb Jones, Brian Stultz, Henry Patton and Jay G. Tate reconvene at the (old) athletics complex to discuss important happenings in and around the Auburn program, which includes a crushing basketball defeat at the hands of Yale. First, though, we open with some chatter about Auburn's work so far in spring football. Caleb then jumps in to highlight six recruits who have visited campus of late — including an impactful quarterback who seems to really like the Tigers. The guys then delve into the Tigers' tough loss to Yale and what it means going forward. What happens to this roster? How do they augment it? What will they do at point guard? There are so many questions. The guys also review a generally unfun week on the diamonds. The show ends with a sizable collections of commendations and shoutouts for the most outstanding members (this week) from The Bunker community. Great folks and a great community! The Rundown, Ep. 628 (3-19-24)

3/19/2024
Bryan Matthews, Caleb Jones, Brian Stultz, Henry Patton and Jay G. Tate reconvene at Voodoo to discuss the important happenings in and around the Auburn program, which includes yet another SEC championship for Bruce Pearl. First, though, we open with some chatter from Auburn's second week of spring football practice and a pretty thorough recruiting synopsis from Caleb and B-Matt. It was quite a weekend for recruiting. B-Matt, the wily vet, explains why there was more to it than meets the eye. The guys then delve into the Tigers' SEC (Tournament) championship, which included three wins in Nashville. Why didn't that improve Auburn's seed in the NCAA Tournament? Strange days, indeed. Still, Pearl's team looks like a serious contender. Coach Johnnie's team made the tournament as well — and will play Thursday night in Storrs, Conn. It was a difficult weekend on the basepaths for Auburn. This coming weekend won't be any easier. The show ends with a small-yet-potent gaggle of commendations and shoutouts for the most outstanding members (this week) from The Bunker community. It's only been a few days since our last show, but the Bunker Never Stops Giving. 3/12/2024
Bryan Matthews, Caleb Jones, Brian Stultz and Jay G. Tate reconvene at Voodoo to discuss the important happenings in and around the Auburn program, which includes the first week of spring football and the end of Auburn's Under Armour era? Spring ball resumes Tuesday (today), so what will we be looking for? Quarterbacks, of course. It's always quarterbacks. There are some other guys worthy of regard, too. Apparel deal? Auburn is closing in on a deal with Nike, but don't get ready to buy those new Bo Barkey Big Hurt Jordan XIIs just yet. The university's deal with Under Armour runs through June 2025. The guys also take a look back at Bruce Pearl's entire regular season of work and marvel at the progress shown in several areas. This team's new-found ability to work inside-out may be a game change. B-Matt has raised his expectations as a result. Coach Jonnie's girls are on the NCAA Tournament bubble, but Caleb thinks they're in. Baseball had a mostly successful weekend while softball struggled a bit more. Sunday events were good on both fronts, however. The show ends with a juicy slab of commendations and shoutouts for the most outstanding members (this week) from The Bunker community. It's only been a few days since our last show, but the Bunker Never Stops Giving. The Rundown, Ep. 626 (3-7-24)

3/7/2024
Bryan Matthews and Jay G. Tate reconvene over the Internet to discuss the important happenings in and around the Auburn program, which includes the first week of spring football and exciting times for basketball. Auburn began spring ball last week before taking this week off for spring break. B-Matt says he's already hearing some good things about Too Tall Miller while Jay G. heard some positive chatter about both Cam Coleman and Keldric Faulk. Ont the basketball tip, Bruce Pearl's team has won two in a row (including a road win at Mizzou) and now faces Georgia in the regular-season finale. It sure looks like the Tigers have a really good shot at landing a top-four seed and the early-round bye that accompanies it. B-Matt really likes what Auburn's point guards have been doing throughout these past four games. Coach Johnnie's team is kicking, too, with an 8-8 league record and a tournament game against Arkansas ahead. Win that and it's almost certain that the Auburn women will be in the Big Dance. (They've probably done enough already, but why leave anything to chance?) Baseball is playing pretty well, though the team will be without Josephy Gonzalez this weekend. B-Matt explains why. Softball? Maddie Penta sure is good. The bats are not. The team plays at Mizzou this weekend. The show ends with a relatively modest array of commendations and shoutouts for the most outstanding members (this week) from The Bunker community. There's only two guys on the show this week, after all. The show is presented by VooDoo Wing Company with locations in Auburn, Mobile, Tuscaloosa, Florence, Charlotte and Las Vegas. 2/27/2024
Bryan Matthews, Caleb Jones, Brian Stultz and Jay G. Tate reconvene at VooDoo Wing Company to discuss the important happenings in and around the Auburn program, which includes the opening of spring football! (We all love football.) Who are some newcomers to watch? Who will win the QB1 job? Will we even get answers during the next six weeks? We discuss it all. The Fightin' Pearls earned a huge win at Georgia last weekend. What does that perofmance mean for the immediate future of Aden Holloway? Did he turn a corner? There is no debate about this: A win in Knoxville would provide a major boost to the Tigers' title hopes. Coach Johnnie's girls have a real chance to hit 8-8 in league play this weekend! That's a long way from 0-16. B-Matt and Stultzy break down a generally successful weekend on the baseball diamond. The one loss was a quality loss. Butch's team looks good. Softball? Less so. The show ends with a gaggle of commendations and shoutouts for the most outstanding members (this week) from The Bunker community. 2/20/2024
Bryan Matthews, Caleb Jones, Brian Stultz and Jay G. Tate reconvene at VooDoo Wing Company to discuss the important happenings in and around the Auburn program, which today centers largely on the hire of Vontrall King-Williams as defensive line coach. He's been here, he's popular with players and Hugh Freeze trusts him? So why is The Bunker so skeptical of the guy? We dig into that curious phenomenon. The guys also discuss "new" commit Hollis Davidson (we haven't done a show in a few weeks) and Mississippi wideout Caleb Cunningham scheduling another trip to the Plains. Basketball? It's been up and down lately, but at least Jaylin Williams is going to be OK. Baseball swept Eastern Kentucky to open the season. It now travels to Florida to play some top competition. Softball is OK. The show ends with a considerably supply of commendations and shoutouts for the most outstanding members (this week) from The Bunker community. The show is presented by VooDoo Wing Company with locations in Auburn, Mobile, Tuscaloosa, Florence, Charlotte and Las Vegas. 2/6/2024
Bryan Matthews, Caleb Jones, Henry Patton and Jay G. Tate reconvene at VooDoo Wing Company to discuss the important happenings in and around the Auburn program, which today centers on the third Junior Day of the 2024 recruiting cycle. Auburn essntially split up its Junior Day into three separate sessions with an eye on getting each player more one-on-one time with coaches. Recruits seemed to enjoy that. And the caliber of recruits who made at least one trip to the Plains during this event window was high. Very high. How many of these kids are on commit watch? Caleb says "several." The guys also discuss the loss of defensive line coach Jeremy Garrett to the NFL. The Fightin Pearls are back on the winning track after securing DUBS at home against Vanderbilt and at Ole Miss. What do those games tell us about this team's chances against Alabama and Florida this week? The show ends with a plentiful supply of commendations and shoutouts for the most outstanding members (this week) from The Bunker community. 1/30/2024
Bryan Matthews, Caleb Jones, Henry Patton and Jay G. Tate reconvene at VooDoo Wing Company to discuss the important happenings in and around the Auburn program, which today centers on the hire of DJ Durkin onto the defensive staff. Auburn had four coaches leave this offseason. Now four have been hired — Durkin, Charles Kelly, Derrick Nix and Kent Austin. Is that an overall upgrade? Bryan thinks so. Will Redmond coming in from LSU signals a change within the program. What does a General Manager actually do? Let's discuss. Caleb recaps a conversation/interview he recently held with Elba (Ala.) HS tailback Alvin Henderson. The Fightin' Pearls have lost back-to-back road games. Is it time to panic? Henry says NO SIR. A mid-week game at home against Vanderbilt could a real salve. The show ends with a tight-but-powerful supply of commendations and shoutouts for the most outstanding members (this week) from The Bunker community. Bryan Matthews, Caleb Jones, Henry Patton and Jay G. Tate reconvene at VooDoo Wing Company to discuss the important happenings in and around the Auburn program, which today centers on the hire of assistant coach Derrick Nix and the pursuit of one more assistant coach. Will it be DJ Durkin? Will it be Chris Kiffin? ONLY TIME WILL TELL. Auburn's second Junior Day in as many weekends was a success. Caleb runs down the latest feedback from the latest crop of visitors, which included the No. 1 quarterback for the 2025 class plus several impactful four-stars. Bruce Pearl's team has been playing terrific basketball, but the Tigers will face more difficult challenges this week with road games at Alabama and Mississippi State. What can we expect? What should we expect? There is a difference. The show ends with a strong supply of commendations and shoutouts for the most outstanding members (this week) from The Bunker community. 1/16/2024
Bryan Matthews, Caleb Jones, Brian Stultz, Henry Patton and Jay G. Tate reconvene at VooDoo Wing Company to discuss the important happenings in and around the Auburn program, which today centers on two surprise resignations and Hugh Freeze's effort (so far) to replace them. Auburn still needs at least a co-offensive coordinator and a co-defensive coordinator. Who is in the running to claim those jobs. The team also needs someone to coach tailbacks now that Carnell Williams is gone. Auburn added Jerrin Thompson out of the portal. The former Texas free safety should be a plug-and-play guy for the Tigers next fall. The first Junior Day of 2024 was a success. Caleb gives you updates on OL Dontrell Glover, DE Zion Grady, LV Eric Winters, WR Derick Smith, OL Mal Waldrep and OL Tavaris Dice. The Fightin' Pearls are playing some GREAT ball right now after a win over LSU and ahead of the trip to an icy Nashville to face off with Jerry Stackhouse's Vanderbilt Commodores. What are we to make of the team's wobbly second half against the Tigers? Also, Coach Johnnie's team got a MASSIVE win against LSU as well — ending the Bayou Bengals' 16-game win streak in the process. The show ends with an eye-opening supply of commendations and shoutouts for the most outstanding members (this week) from The Bunker community. 1/10/2024
Bryan Matthews, Caleb Jones and Jay G. Tate reconvene at VooDoo Wing Company to discuss the important happenings in and around the Auburn program, which today centers on personnel comings and goings since the bowl game. Hugh Freeze has jettisoned both coordinators and now finds himself prepared to call plays again — after choosing to focus on recruiting last fall. What is his plan on offense? And who makes sense on the defensive side of the ball? Fifteen players from the Tigers Early Signing Day class already are on campus and will begin Winter Workouts later this week. Isn't that something? Several portal transfers are on campus as well. What should we expect from the Tigers' latest portal targets? Auburn basketball has been HEATING UP of late — demolishing Arkansas and then grinding out a really nice win against Texas A&M on Tuesday. Just how good is this team? We're starting to think the Final Four is a real option here. The show ends with a notable supply of commendations and shoutouts for the most outstanding members (this week) from The Bunker community. The Rundown, Ep. 618 (12-28-23)

12/28/2023
Bryan Matthews, Caleb Jones and Jay G. Tate reconvene over the Internet to discuss the important happenings in and around the Auburn program, which today centers on bowl prep and a memorable recruiting crescendo as the Early Signing Day hit. Auburn didn't lose any important recruits and in fact flipped one (DL Amaris Williams) from Florida. The Tigers also snatched OL Favour Edwin from the claws of Alabama and Florida 12 hours after the ESD window opened. Overall, this is a very strong showing for Hugh Freeze and his staff after their first full year on the recruiting trail. Pre-eminent classes at both linebacker and wideout show that these coaches understand how to augment a roster throughtfully and assuredly. The Fightin' Pearls are 9-2 and look very strong heading into their final two non-con games before SEC plays starts at Arkansas on Jan. 6th. Of note, the team's free-throw shooting has improved dramatically while backup center Dylan Cardwell may finally be blossoming into a two-way player who doesn't foul every 90 seconds. The show ends with a notable supply of commendations and shoutouts for the most outstanding members (this week) from The Bunker community. The Rundown, Ep. 617 (12-18-23)

12/18/2023
Bryan Matthews, Caleb Jones, Brian Stultz, Henry Patton and Jay G. Tate reconvene for a new edition of The Rundown, which focuses on what's expected to happen from an Auburn perspective on signing day Wednesday. We know it's going to be a day when Auburn consummates its first really good signing class in many years, but there still are some questions? Caleb answers all that and more during a 25-minute recruiting segment. He also reviews what was a pretty busy weekend in terms of portal visitors. The guys then review what's been a BUSY week on the football side — players opting out, a few players opting in, the 2024 schedule drop, bowl practice and Freeze's admission that he's building around Payton Thorne and not looking to replace him. The topic then turns to basketball, where the Fightin' Pearls earned a big win over Southern Cal and really look like a team that can challenge for an SEC title. This team has tons of depth. Is it possible to have too much depth? The show ends with a massive conglomeration of commendations and shoutouts for the most outstanding members (this week) from The Bunker community. The Rundown, Ep. 616 (12-12-23)

12/12/2023
Bryan Matthews, Caleb Jones, Brian Stultz, Henry Patton and Jay G. Tate reconvene for a new edition of The Rundown, which focuses on BIG CHANGES underway on the football side of things. Four more Auburn players have entered the portal while several players from other schools have visited. One, wideout Robert Lewis from Georgia State, already has committed to play at Auburn beginning next season. The Tigers also added JUCO offensive lineman Seth Wilfred on Monday, though he's not a portal guy. Will Hugh Freeze actually stand pat at quarterback? He says he's good with Payton Thorne, but we're sure he's keeping his eyes open as the portal continues to populate. Five-star wideout Ryan Williams from Saraland, Ala., has announced plans to re-classify to the Class of 2024. He's still an Alabama commit as of this hour, but can the Tigers flip him? Caleb still isn't sure how to read this one. Auburn top portal target along the offensive line, Fernando Carmona from San Jose State, will be here this weekend. Who else will be making the trip? The guys also break down the Tigers' HUGE vict'ry over the Indiana Hoosiers in basketball and look ahead to games against UNC Asheville and Southern Cal this week. The show ends with a 55-gallon drum full of commendations and shoutouts for the most outstanding members (this week) from The Bunker community. 12/5/2023
Bryan Matthews, Caleb Jones, Brian Stultz, Henry Patton and Jay G. Tate reconvene for a new edition of The Rundown, which focuses on how the initial waves of Transfer Portal activity has affected the Tigers' football roster. Six players have declared their intention to transfer. Auburn has at least 10 offers out to other players, perhaps more by the time you listen to this show. The Tigers seem to be focusing their efforts on offensive line and defensive line so far. Cam Coleman flipped from Texas A&M and then earned his fifth star, bumping the Tigers to No. 10 in the latest Rivals team rankings. That was a serious heist — and one that may set the tone for a strong finish to this class. Crime McGriff is back on the recruiting trail, which is a good thing for Auburn. Is he going to remain in this role or can he help the program more in a different capacity? The Fightin' Pearls lost a tough one at Appalachian State last weekend. What did that loss tell us about the ball club? What are the most pressing issues? And is Denver Jones having a terrible start or does it just seem that way? The show ends with a cornucopia of commendations and shoutouts for the most outstanding members (this week) from The Bunker community. 11/27/2023
Bryan Matthews, Caleb Jones, Brian Stultz and Jay G. Tate reconvene for a new edition of The Rundown, which focuses on the Tigers' stinging loss in the Iron Bowl. We're not here to re-litigate the fourth-quarter follies, but we go back through them briefly before taking a look at what comes next for this football program. It's time to take stock of what helps make the Tigers better in 2024 and add what's missing and cut what isn't needed. That sounds cutthroat, but college football is a cutthroat world these days. Caleb and B-Matt recap what was a very busy weekend from a recruiting perspective. They review the eight biggest visitors and make some predictions about what happens during the next three weeks. The early signing period begins soon. The guys also discuss the Fightin' Pearls, who have games against Virginia Tech and Appalachian State this weekend. The show ends with a bodacious array of commendations and shoutouts for the most outstanding members (this week) from our outstanding message board.
