#46 | Derby Day Disaster | Manchester City 4-1 Manchester United

3/7/2022
It's perhaps no longer a surprise to see Manchester United lose out in a Manchester derby, but it is sobering to see them do so in a limp fashion. Unfortunately, that is the reality that faces us after Ralf Rangnick's side went down 4-1 to Manchester City at the Etihad. Against all natural impulses, Simon, Josh & James convened the next day to talk interesting selections and another Jekyll & Hyde performance from United. There's also chat about Roy Keane's post-match anger, Top Four chances diminishing, Spurs on Saturday and our first proper talk about who should be the next man in the Old Trafford hot seat, Ten Hag or Pochettino? - - - - - - - - For more from The Devil's Trident, check out the links below: Website | Facebook | Twitter | Instagram

#45 | The Saviour from Scandinavia | Atletico Madrid 1-1 Manchester United

2/24/2022
We're back, again! Things have been quiet at The Devil's Trident HQ lately but we couldn't miss out on talking about Manchester United in the Champions League! It may not have been a performance that we look back fondly on, but the result and the way the game ended was. Our Swedish upstart Anthony Elanga came off the bench late on to keep Rangnick's men very much alive in the last 16 going into the second leg against Atletico Madrid at Old Trafford in three weeks time. After the game, Simon, Matt, James & Sam discussed a disjointed performance at the Wanda Metropolitano, what the result means for us going forward plus our equally topsy-turvy Premier League form. #44 | Broken & Rotten | Aston Villa 2-2 Manchester United

1/16/2022
The sign in the away end at Villa Park on Saturday evening, alongside the on-pitch performance, summed things up for Manchester United. It read 'Broken and Rotten from Top to Bottom' and it's hard to argue. Ralf Rangnick's side are bewilderingly inconsistent and disjointed during the games, but there's also evidence of a huge disconnect growing off the pitch. The morning after the 2-2 draw with Aston Villa, Simon and Matt worked up the willpower to talk about United throwing away a two-goal lead, Ronaldo's interview, the Rangnick/Martial drama plus all the other uncertainty floating around the club right now. Going against our natural outlooks, it's not the upbeat chat. You can blame Manchester United Football Club for that! - - - - - - - - For more from The Devil's Trident, check out the links below: Website | Facebook | Twitter | Instagram

#43 | New Year's Reservations | Manchester United 0-1 Wolves

1/3/2022
We may have turned over to another year on our calendars but Manchester United haven't turned over a new leaf to start 2022 with much renewed positivity. After a disrupted Festive period hit by COVID cancellations, Ralf Rangnick's side have flattered to deceive on their return with a true mixed bag of results. Defeat against Wolves at Old Trafford on Monday leaves everyone with more questions than answers about where Manchester United stand, where they're going, and whether the interim manager can get his underperforming stars (Phil Jones aside) to buck their ideas up. Post-game, Simon, Matt & Josh discussed the baffling recent form and looked tentatively ahead to next week's FA Cup game against Aston Villa, as well as assessing United's top four ambitions. - - - - - - - - For more from The Devil's Trident, check out the links below: Website | Facebook | Twitter | Instagram

#42 | Previously at Manchester United... | Young Boys visit Old Trafford, Solskjaer and Carrick depart, and Rangnick comes in!

12/9/2021
After a 7 week(!) hiatus, The Devil's Trident Podcast is back, and boy oh boy do we have a lot to cover! Lots has changed at Manchester United since we last spoke, so Simon, Matt, Josh and James went over all of it after a pretty dour Champions League draw against Young Boys. We talk Solskjaer's undoing, Carrick's ship-steadying and departure, plus Ralf Rangnick joining as Interim Manager. There's also chat about Norwich, the Champions League draw and coffee machines. It's a long one, strap in! Enjoy, Reds. - - - - - - - - For more from The Devil's Trident, check out the links below: Website | Facebook | Twitter | Instagram

#41 | Ole's Box of Chocolates | Manchester United 3-2 Atalanta

10/21/2021
Just like Neil Warnock's Middlesbrough, you truly never know what you're going to get from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's Manchester United, do you? After a entirely lacklustre display against Leicester City in the Premier League, the Reds pulled another stunning second half comeback out of the bag in the Champions League against Atalanta at Old Trafford to go from the boot of Group F to the driving seat. After the game, Simon, James, Josh and Sam caught up to go over all the action and look ahead to Liverpool at the weekend. #40 | Must Do Better | Manchester United 1-1 Everton

10/3/2021
After the high of 95 minutes into Wednesday's Champions League game against Villarreal, Manchester United once again bumped back down to earth in the Premier League. Whilst a draw at home to Everton isn't shameful, it does represent yet more home points dropped and once more, it was completely avoidable. Inevitably, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer now faces more pressure in certain quarters because of his team selection, final whistle facial expressions and his sides general inconsistency. Some of those views are arguably valid. Either way, we're told talking about your problems helps so Simon, Matt and Sam did just that after the final whistle. #39 | Points Over Performance | Manchester United stop the rot in the Champions League

9/29/2021
After a pretty torrid week, Manchester United managed to pull a win out of the hat in the dying embers of their Champions League group stage game against Villarreal! Cristiano Ronaldo popped up with seconds left on the clock to relief Ole Gunnar Solskjaer of some of the pressure himself and his team had piled on him in the last eight days or so with two defeats on the bounce. It was a win the manager desperately needed, and one that should provide a confidence boost before Everton on Saturday. On this episode, Simon, Josh, James and Sam gathered to talk all of that and more! - - - - - - - - For more from The Devil's Trident, check out the links below: Website | Facebook | Twitter | Instagram

#38 | Top and Bottom | Mixed Emotions on and off the pitch at Manchester United

9/15/2021
Wow, a lot has happened since we last spoke down our microphones. In the time since the Southampton draw, Manchester United have re-signed Cristiano Ronaldo, beaten Wolves, fawned over the aforementioned signing non-stop, beaten Newcastle at Old Trafford and stumbled to an opening game Champions League defeat to Young Boys. It's never dull, is it? After the Young Boys game, Simon, Josh, Matt and Sam talked about most of the above and went through a rollercoaster of emotions. As fair warning, we also discuss the issue of the often-ignored rape allegations and the unsettled civil case involving Ronaldo. As a podcast, we feel that this aspect of the Portuguese's return cannot simply be swept under the rug and whilst we clearly won't imply guilt or innocence, it is definitely worth mentioning for those that are unaware of the matter, or the finer details of the story. #37 | The South Coast of Seasons Past | Manchester United stutter at St Mary's

8/23/2021
The predictions of ourselves and many others didn't come to fruition for Manchester United on Sunday. Many expected to see a comfortable win for Solskjaer's side given the starts to the season and the contrast in transfer activity but Southampton really made United squirm and work for their 1-1 draw. After the game Simon & Matt battled through the deflation to go over what felt like two points squandered for the Reds. We also talk Varane memes, yellow shorts and have a quick look ahead to another tricky away day against Wolves next time out. Enjoy, Reds. - - - - - - - - For more from The Devil's Trident, check out the links below: Website | Facebook | Twitter | Instagram

#36 | The Bruno & Pogba Show | Manchester United thump Leeds on the opening day

8/16/2021
What a way to start a Premier League season! Despite several first-teamers having minimal preparation for an Old Trafford clash against the old rival Leeds United, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side well and truly hit the ground running with a 5-1 demolition job. Paul Pogba's four assists and Bruno Fernandes' hat-trick stole the show in front of 75000 returning fans but there were plenty of other positives to go over such as the performances of Mason Greenwood and Scott McTominay plus the unveiling of some French defender before kick-off. Simon, Sam and Matt discussed it all after the game (and a couple of pints) as we got giddy about the prospect of starting the season at the top of the league. #34 | Crushed | Manchester United end another season without a trophy

5/28/2021
After once again going deep into every tournament for a second season in a row under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Manchester United have ended another season without earning any silverware after a crushing Europa League final defeat. The lottery of a penalty shootout of immense quality proved a step too far for the Reds. Not quite fresh from the night before, Simon and Matt picked the bones out of a disappointing evening, discussed where United go from here and once again address the awful abuse levelled at Marcus Rashford in the aftermath. It's our last podcast of the season and it's so disappointing to end on a flat note but we do try to revisit the positives over the course of the episode. We'll be back, and so will Manchester United. Keep the faith, Reds. - - - - - - - - For more from The Devil's Trident, check out the links below: Website | Facebook | Twitter | Instagram

#33 | Midweek Woes | Two games in three days proves too much for Manchester United

5/14/2021
Well, that was a disappointing few days. There was always the chance of dropped points at home to Leicester City and Liverpool, but two Old Trafford defeats against top six rivals takes a little bit of the shine off Manchester United's end of season run-in. After the Liverpool game, Simon, Matt & James talked over what went wrong across the week plus the latest set of Glazer protests and the subsequent divide being seen across parts of the fanbase as a result. - - - - - - - - For more from The Devil's Trident, check out the links below: Website | Facebook | Twitter | Instagram

#32 | Second Half FC | In a shocking turn of events, Manchester United come back from behind at Villa Park

5/9/2021
Doing it the easy way is boring, right? We weren't certain of it while recording, but Manchester United have confirmed their place in next year's Champions League after yet another comeback win against Aston Villa at Villa Park. A maximum of 4 more points are needed to secure second spot as Solskjaer's men prepare for a Europa League final in confidence-boosting style. Simon & Matt were on-hand to talk about the game plus Joel Glazer's latest fan letter and the upcoming Leicester City & Liverpool games. #31 | Let's Gdańsk! | Manchester United secure a spot in the Europa League final

5/7/2021
Manchester United looked like they were doing their best to bottle the job in periods of the second leg in Rome but Solskjaer's men got over the line despite a 3-2 defeat at the Stadio Olimpico. We're going a European final and it feels good! On this episode Simon and Matt caught up with the returning James to talk about the Roma game, our Europa League final opponents and the Glazer protests before looking ahead to a gruelling run of 3 games in 5 days. #30 | One Foot in the Final | Manchester United deliver a customary second half recovery to thrash Roma at Old Trafford

4/30/2021
Things were looking a bit sketchy at half-time for Manchester United against Roma after giving away their one goal lead to trail at the break, but boy did they recover! Five second half goals were added to Bruno Fernandes' first-half dink to effectively book United's place in the Gdansk final in May. Simon and Matt re-lived the action after the game, swooning over the performances of the Portuguese, Cavani and Pogba before discussing Arsenal's chances of meeting us in Poland. We also looked ahead to the small matter of Liverpool on Sunday. It's a happy one, Reds - enjoy! - - - - - - - - This episode of The Devil's Trident Podcast is sponsored by MANSCAPED. #28 | Scavengers | Our reaction to Manchester United's European Super League plans

4/20/2021
*Recorded before Premier League teams withdrew from The Super League and Ed Woodward’s resignation* This should be a podcast about an in-the-end routine 3-1 Premier League win over Burnley for Manchester United, but instead it's all about greed, the Glazers and club owners attempting to rip the soul out of our football club. On Sunday evening, plans for a breakaway European Super League were formally revealed - this is our take on it. #27 | Son's Crying | Manchester United get justice and payback against Mourinho's Spurs

4/11/2021
After a 3-1 victory against Tottenham Hotspur that tastes that bit sweeter for a few obvious reasons, Manchester United put two firm hands on second place in the Premier League. Could Solskjaer's men start making Manchester City sweat? Probably not, but we talked about that, the VAR controversy and some wonderful goals involving Edinson Cavani and Mason Greenwood. There's also discussion around the post-match talking points, a potential season-long away run and some Granada predictions.
