Ep. 146 A Brother’s Fountain: Get Your Ass Outside with Musical Stoke!

1/22/2024
Join Travis and guest host Julia Fritz for a fun and stoke-filled conversation with Justin and AJ Fountain of the Colorado campfire folk band, A Brother’s Fountain. A Brother's Fountain is a Colorado-based band with a folk-inspired sound you always wanted to hear but never knew existed. Some categorize them as Indie Folk. Others call them an Americana band. A Brother’s Fountain knows they belong to a genre all its own: Campfire Folk. Songs range from rowdy and anthemic to reflective, laid-back sing-alongs. Keep an ear out to hear their trademark "gang vocals" that invite the listener to throw their voice into the anthem. This rag-tag crew of best buds and mountain junkies (river guides, rock climbers, backpackers, cyclists, skiers, etc.) started their music journey busking on the street corners of Old Town Fort Collins, Colorado. Their music is inspired by life’s extraordinary gifts - mother nature, authentic friendship, epic adventures, and mysteries that keep us ever-curious. Ep. 142 Ray Nypaver and Her Excellent Book, Light & Dark: Reflections on the Human Experience

12/4/2023
Join Travis and Ray for a powerful and wide-ranging conversation about her new book and life. In 2019, Ray graduated from Naropa University with her Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with Transpersonal Wilderness Therapy. In 2020, she opened up Wanderlust Counseling. Her passion for running coaching follows in line with her mission of helping others reach their full potential in all aspects of life and therefore carries a strong mind/body/spirit focus in her coaching. At Higher Running, she enjoys coaching runners embarking on new adventures and who use running as a modality to discover more about themselves. Ray’s hobbies include reading, volunteering, Yoga, snowshoeing, rollerblading, and exploring new places with her daughter(dog), Pacer. About LIGHT & DARK: Pierre Teilhard de Chardin is credited for the famous quote, “We are not human beings having a spiritual experience; we are spiritual beings having a human experience.” But what is the human experience? Through Ray’s own life experience and her work guiding others as a psychotherapist, she came up with a simple definition: the human experience is the journey from darkness into light. While it’s a beautiful journey, it is certainly not an easy one, and that is exactly where we can find compassion for all humans. Everyone on this earth signed up for a hard job. No human goes without experiencing the pain and suffering of being alive. Yet, it is exactly that pain that can point us back to the light, back to remembering our true selves as spiritual beings. This book includes poems, insights from nature, essays, and journal entries on what it means to be human. Ray explores and defines each component of the human experience, traveling through darkness into gray and finally, back to light. Light & Dark: Reflections on the Human Experience is a lighthouse for spiritual beings who find themselves lost or stuck in the pain of being human and offers the hope and reassurance of a way out. The book is a reminder that you are not alone. Ep. 141 PATH OF THE PANTHER with Carlton Ward Jr. and Aaron Kindle

11/27/2023
Welcome to a compelling conservation about conservation, ecology, public lands, and PATH OF THE PANTHER, a fantastic book and film that provides a deep dive into the uncharted world of the Florida panther. It's a race against time to reveal the natural history of an icon surviving in an ancient ecosystem. Carlton Ward Jr. is a conservation photographer focused on wild Florida. He founded the Florida Wildlife Corridor project in 2010 and has since trekked 2,000 miles during two National Geographic supported expeditions to advocate for the corridor’s protection. The most recent Florida Wildlife Corridor Expedition is the subject of the new film, The Forgotten Coast, featured at the Environmental Film Festival in Washington, D.C. and broadcast nationally on PBS in 2016. An eighth-generation Floridian, Ward has developed strong connections with conservation organizations, researchers, and landowners. His family owns a ranch in the Peace River Valley that provides habitat for Florida panthers and he has several cousins who are full-time cowboys in the Greater Everglades. He is now working as an ambassador for the recovery of the Florida panther, a plan that calls for conservation of hundreds of thousands of acres of ranchlands and forests and across Florida. Aaron Kindle is lifelong Westerner, originally from Wyoming, who possesses a deep appreciation for the West, its people, and its wild country. He comes to National Wildlife Federation from Trout Unlimited, where he worked on public lands issues for their Sportsmen’s Conservation Project for four and a half years. Aaron went to college in Gunnison, Colorado, and received his M.S. from the University of Montana. He is an avid hunter, angler, boater, and all-around outdoor enthusiast. He lives with his wife and two children in Salida, CO, and serves on the Board of Directors for the Central Colorado Conservancy.
