Season 5 Episode 2 Working with our energy systems in the body with Dawn Lister and Prune Harris

4/16/2024
In this conversation, Prune Harris and I offer an exploration of working with our energy systems in the body. Prune's extensive knowledge and experience offers an incredible insight into feeling and sensing our energy, and the energy of those around us, and how Mother Earth can be a way to connect to each other and live in harmony with our highest purpose. A fascinating conversation that crosses the paths of yoga and chinese medicine. Listen in, and of course please do share, review and hit that subscribe button. Dawn About Prune Harris Prune Harris has grown up in a world of energy, and for the past 50 years, she has been tracking, understanding, and now translating this world for us all to experience. Since birth, Prune has been able to see energy - the energy of humans, animals, trees, and the Earth, and she sees this energy as vibrations, colours, and connective patterns. But it wasn’t until a pivotal moment in her mid 30’s that Prune realised her way of experiencing the world was very different from many of us. Her simple and insightful explanations of how our personal energy field, our collective energy field, and the global energy field interconnect, sheds forgotten light on how we can begin to move back to patterns of not just individual, but global health and harmony. An energy expert, consciousness educator, and soul activist, Prune has trained with healers, elders, and wisdom holders throughout the world and is certified in Touch For Health Kinesiology, Eden Energy Medicine, and Celtic and Norse Shamanism. For 20 years Prune worked as a clinical practitioner, dedicating her skills and gifts to helping those who needed to heal physically, emotionally or spiritually. But, with a three-year waiting list, she knew that to make a global impact she needed to make her knowledge accessible to a much wider audience. Through her in-person and online courses, her social media presence, her membership, YouTube channel, and best selling book ‘Your Radiant Soul - Understand Your Energy to Transform Your World’, Prune has empowered thousands of people across the globe to bring consciousness to their energy systems and make small yet powerful changes that elicit real change in their lives. Because, once we are aligned with our own template of health, we can then begin to align with the global template of health and, in her own words, ‘That is where the real magic happens, for you, me, and our entire world.’ About Dawn Lister and From The Heart From The Heart is a podcast from Dawn Lister, co-owner of the Dawn Lister Therapy Centre and owner of Anahata Wellbeing Centre, both in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex, UK. Season 5 Episode 1 Creating conversation with the earth with Dawn Lister and Angela Carroll-Wallace

3/19/2024
In this episode we welcome our first guest to season 5, Angela Carroll-Wallace, a Land Artist, Photographer, Maker and Creative. We hold an inspiring conversation about our connection to the earth. How our disconnection is symbolic of how disconnected we can be as a society. Through her journey into the landscapes of Canada, Angela co-creates works in harmony with the environment she is sharing space with. Her work is a beautiful invitation and a creative solution that offers us an opportunity to repair our connection to the earth, and in turn heal ourselves and our communities. Angela Carroll-Wallace is a Canadian Land Artist whose creative practice is informed by her mindfulness-based connection with her co-creator, Mother Nature. An avid wonderer and daydreaming artist, she has held many roles that contribute to her worldview and personal expression, from photographer and studio owner to an expressive arts therapist and arts based workshop and retreat facilitator. Shortly before the world retreated in 2020, Angela experienced the need to leave a thriving studio and practice in the city and return to the forest to find healing and inspiration. Having worked closely with nature as part of her varied art experiences over the years, this relationship became both balm and primary focus of her work as an artist experiencing anxiety, loss and burn out. Land Art, sometimes called Earth Art or Environmental Art, is an art movement that became more recognised with the social disruptions of the 1960’s as a way to distill the process of making art from the establishment of a hierarchical gallery, market system. Artists such as Nancy Holt, Nils-Udo, Agnes Denes, Maya Lin, Walter de Maria and Andy Goldsworthy among many others have informed and inspired Angela's work. In our time it has held onto this “otherness” in the art world and has also become more entwined with the modern need for connections between the human world we have created, and the natural world that is always in a state of creation and change. ‘Listening to the Mother’ completed in a forest on the Pacific North West coast of Canada was a year long land art project consisting of 12 site specific installations/sculptures. Focusing on themes of co-creation, ephemerality and deep mindful listening, this project has gained notice from local hikers, social media and is the focus of upcoming photographic exhibitions in 2024 and 25. Angela continues to create with nature’s materials in her home studio during inclement weather, and in and with natural landscapes around British Columbia whenever possible. Her fieldguide/journal book, Connections Through The Art of Nature, will hopefully be available this fall. Season 4 Episode 8: Let’s talk about ’Fat Bodies’ in Yoga with Dawn Lister and Lucy Bishop

11/21/2023
Trigger warning. This episode contains adult language and themes including eating disorders, body image and appearance. Please take care whilst listening. Not suitable for children. Contains swearing. You might have heard the term "every body is a yoga body". Yoga should be accessible to everyone, regardless of shape or size. There is a huge amount of body shaming in the world and the yoga business versus the yogic community is horrifically entangled with it. Yoga can be intimidating and overwhelmingly associated with images of thinness. This is not a truthful representation of yoga or its benefits. In this inspiring episode Dawn welcomes Lucy Bishop, an inclusive yoga teacher and movement specialist. Lucy first found yoga at a time when she had a difficult relationship with her body and eating. She felt connected to the practice but uncomfortable in the space, and looking back she can see the lack of modifications, accessibility and size diversity. Knowing the potential of an accessible practice and the lack of size diversity within the yoga community, Lucy decided to do her teacher training in India and has been teaching yoga since 2016. We talk about Lucy's journey to becoming a yoga teacher, working hard and passionately to promote safe and inclusive spaces. Dawn and Lucy also discuss the false claim that promoting larger bodies in yoga postures means promoting obesity, diet culture's impact on the industry, how we talk to and about ourselves, and the experience of being a larger bodied person in the industry. An important conversation to have, but together they help raise awareness on the need to acknowledge that things need to change within the yoga community and to allow everyone to feel included in their practice. Lucy Bishop is an inclusive yoga teacher and movement specialist who has been teaching yoga since 2016. Lucy is a full time yoga teacher teaching in community spaces, studios, for corporate clients and lots of other weird and wonderful places. She also runs training sessions for teachers on inclusivity and size inclusivity and is fiercely passionate about making everyone feel welcome in the yoga space. Season 4: Episode 7: Second Spring: The self-care guide to menopause with Dawn Lister and Kate Codrington

10/31/2023
Dawn is delighted to welcome Kate Codrington back to the podcast. In this episode they continue their previous conversation surrounding menopause and to reinforce that what we need in challenging times is not shame or pushing through, but to treat ourselves with care and compassion. Kate is the author of Second Spring: the self-care guide to menopause. Published by Harper Collins, it’s the first book to give a psychological map for menopause, one of the top ten self-help books of 2022 according to The Independent. Kate mentors people in perimenopause and beyond, 1-2-1 online, runs groups, nature-based Yoga Nidra sessions, hosts Life - An Inside Job podcast, has been a therapist for 30 years and creates multi-level art textile projects. When she’s not doing these things you’ll find her playing in her compost heaps. "Perimenopause can sometimes feel like the rug has been pulled from under our feet and this can leave us feeling disempowered and lost. Second Spring is a new kind of menopause book, bringing the radical notion that with small changes and a clear-eyed look at what’s no longer serving you, you can reclaim your vitality and joy in life. This book offers a new vision for menopause, mapping the psychological phases and showing how this period in your life can be a time of personal growth. Like your slightly sweary best friend, I guide you through managing physical challenges with lifestyle changes and understanding what might be causing them. Whether you choose a natural route, HRT or a combination of both, there’s a wealth of self-care practices available here to soothe your symptoms. These include journaling prompts, practical tips, soulful enquiries and real-life solutions for managing symptoms with kindness, helping you to become the person you always longed to be." Season 4: Episode 3 The Modern Yogini, with Dawn Lister and Shanthini Ramanan

8/8/2023
In this episode, Dawn speaks to Shanthini Ramanan, a modern yogini named after the beautiful Bhuvaneshwari temple in Pudukottai, her Grandparents hometown. We have named this episode The Modern Yogini, as our conversation unravels the tale of her life, born into a traditional Hindu family (Brahmin caste) growing up in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, Southern India, and the first of 3 children. A religious family with faith at its heart, she vividly remembers her Grandfather sitting in Padmasana (lotus pose) for 2 hours every morning performing an elaborate shiva pooja before work. Evenings he would meditate and chant mantra. As she grew into adulthood, her innate spiritual temperament was at odds with her rebellious nature. Shanthini had a traditional marriage aged 20 and came to the UK. Poorly equipped to cope, she felt alone and isolated, yet it was her unshakable faith in the divine that got her through. The following years brought great suffering, including a divorce resulting in her being outcast from the local temple community which had been a huge part of her and her family's life. Finding her strength in her spirituality, she leant into the power of prayer and mantra. Shanthini went on to change careers, becoming a therapist, and was involved in the development of a social enterprise company Papas Pickles. Shanthini has built a beautiful Shala in her home, a place for women to gather and be nourished with food, love and spiritual community. She shares with us her rich story. A mantra. And the lesson of what it means to be a yogini in the world today, the inner work, the kindness, the compassion and the connection to the divine. Please leave us a question, comment or view. Season 3: Episode 11 A time for change with Dawn Lister and Daniel Groom

6/21/2023
In May 2023, Daniel Groom, our co-host and co-founder of Anahata Yoga Centre decided to step away from Directorship and Management of Anahata Yoga Centre. A decision not made lightly, but one that also comes with opening space for his personal and professional development. As Daniel continues to teach Yoga at Anahata and co-host Retreats with Dawn Lister, he now embarks on his new path of becoming a Counsellor which he will offer alongside his Yoga Therapy work. The theme surrounding this open and honest conversation between our co-founders is CHANGE. To recognise the 'pull' our bodies feel when change is needed, to change direction that feels more aligned with our values and what we want to model. To face fears, be honest to ourselves and others, and to follow our instincts. Following the end of lockdown, Daniel realised he wanted to change his career path and deepen his therapeutic studies, and in this conversation he opens up about how he recognised his feelings and the journey so far, and the emotional and honest process involved to make the leap of faith. We hope you enjoy this episode, which we feel is a very apt end to this season of From The Heart. Thank you very much for your continued support of our Podcast and thank you to Daniel for co-hosting three amazing seasons. Please join us in wishing Daniel Groom the very best. We look forward to bringing you a new Season of From The Heart very soon, which will be hosted solely by Dawn Lister, who will be having deep and profound conversations with inspiring people, which are topical and relevant to our ever changing world. *** From The Heart is a podcast about Yoga, Mindfulness, healing and wellbeing from Dawn Lister and Daniel Groom, founders of Anahata Yoga Centre, Leigh-on-Sea, Essex, UK. Season 3, Episode 9: Yoga, trauma and wellbeing with Dawn Lister, Daniel Groom and Aneta Idczak.

5/17/2022
In this episode we talk to Aneta Idczak, an experienced Yoga, Mindfulness and Embodiment Teacher about how yoga teachers need to become aware of the levels of trauma people in their classes may be experiencing and to understand ways to hold a class that does not retraumatise the students and the power of a therapeutic yoga practise a tool for healing and support. We discussed "what is safety", we looked at what consent means within a class structure and the importance of staying curious and open both as a teacher and a student. We also spoke about the importance of working through our own trauma and wellbeing - "If your practice has become your teaching you are out of balance." Aneta also spoke about being Polish and how wonderful the Polish people have been opening their arms to the Ukrainian refugees - a true sign of compassion. Aneta, Daniel and Dawn were deeply moved by the importance of community as a healing tool and model for our world going forward. Gone are the days of the GURU's and the commercialisation of yoga, a new world is emerging post covid. In a world that feels volatile and unstable community and kindness, a deeper understanding of the need for trauma sensitive work within our communities that include people who do not practise yoga, therapists, body workers, and others who can support creates a world that is open to the possibility of change and greater love and wisdom. We loved our chat with Aneta and felt we had so much more to talk about. Aneta Idczak is an experienced Yoga, Mindfulness and Embodiment Teacher, Yoga Teacher Trainer and Yoga Business Mentor, as well as Somatic Coach, BSE and Focusing Practitioner and Bodyworker; She is a Founder of Golden Mandala Yoga-Soma Institute providing accredited Trauma-informed Yoga and Embodied Resilience Teacher Training and Mentoring (TREY), and various CPDs on Somatics and Trauma-informed Yoga. Aneta works with needs-led integrative approach drawing on three decades of studying various psychological, therapeutic and body-focused modalities, and her approach is further influenced by over two decades of working in Social Care and in community with Trauma, Mental Health, Addiction, DV and child protection issues, and training and supervising front line workers. You can find information about Aneta’s training and mentoring programmes including 80-Hr Trauma-informed Yoga and Embodied Resilience Teacher Training and Mentoring at www.anetai.co.uk.
