Sha’teina and Daniyal Grady El was accused of not leaving the scene of a crime before police committed their own crimes: A Washtenaw County Sheriff was recorded on video beating Sha'teina, who was unarmed and nonviolent until she was brutally accosted without justifiable provocation during the encounter. Sha’Teina Grady El was on trial for three counts of resisting and obstructing an officer, one count for causing injury to an officer for her resistance and one count for malicious destruction of police property. The charges carried a maximum punishment of 14 years in prison. Her husband, Daniyal Grady El, was charged with two felony counts for resisting and obstructing an officer, with the maximum punishment being four years in prison. The verdict: NOT GUILTY!!

Nursing home abuse is a serious issue at facilities across the country, with neglect being considered one of the most common forms of abuse. When a nursing home fails to provide proper care, residents suffer significant physical and psychological damage. There are many moments that have turned into a movement, and they all began with direct action to try and achieve aims for justice and equality that have an impact that people in power could not ignore. The Civil Rights Movement racked up many notable victories. As successful as the Civil Rights Movement was, there remains unfinished business in the struggle for full equality. We have chanted numerous phrases that depicted solidarity with the victims such as Me too, Black Lives Matter, my body - my choice, Well, I have one more to add to the list, NOT MY DAMN MAMA!
