This is our moment. Today we get a chance to choose a different obsession. We get to step away from a world that simply wants to consume us, and to demonstrate that we are obsessed with God and his mission for the world.
God owns everything, and he has generously blessed us with everything we have. Everywhere else in life, our money is tied to our obsession. If we are obsessed with His kingdom, then our life should be marked by radical generosity.
God offers one antidote to the barrage of obsessions surrounding us—to seek His kingdom. One catch though: this isn’t a solo sport. If we truly want to seek God’s kingdom, we have to be connected to the church.
The right obsession can change history. Yet there are three temptations constantly tugging at us, trying to pull us toward a meaningless, burdened, and wasted life. If we’re going to choose the right obsession, we have to recognize the wrong ones.
In a world full of jerkfaces (us included), how can we possibly make a difference? Jesus gives us the pathway, and it starts with those closest to us. if we want to change the world, it starts with loving our neighbors.
Conflict is inevitable. Jerks in the workplace, stressful family dinners, trolls on Facebook—no matter where we look, conflict is waiting for us. The status quo is to be a peacekeeper; don't rock the boat, keep things calm, and protect our own status. Yet Jesus calls us to be peacemakers—people who proactively pursue reconciliation, who are willing to be honest, and who offer grace instead of judgement and condemnation.
