An adjunct English instructor at Savannah State University is the winner of a prestigious national prize for emerging poets. Sjohnna McCray has won the $5,000 Walt Whitman Award from the Academy of American Poets for his manuscript, “Rapture.” As part of the award, it will be published as a book next year by Graywolf Press. McCray says he set out to write a story about his father’s life.

Kennesaw City Council to Reverse Decision on Mosque

The Kennesaw City Council is reversing its decision to deny a permit to a Muslim organization that wants to open a mosque at a shopping center. After a closed door session last night, the mayor announced the council member who originally voted against the proposal had all changed their minds.
