Whiter Than Snow – June 8 2016

6/8/2016
More
If you are like me, you are grateful for the gracious forgiveness of God. One of my favorite verses in all the Bible is Psalm 51:7, "... wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Having lived for 16 years in Minnesota, I have vivid pictures in my mind of crisp winter mornings with a fresh blanket of sparkling snow covering everything. God uses that image to communicate to us how complete our forgiveness is. Thank you Jesus!

The Darkest Place – May 12 2016

5/12/2016
More
God assures us of His caring presence even in the midst of our darkest days. If I say, “Surely the darkness shall cover me, and the light about me be night,” even the darkness is not dark to you; the night is bright as the day, for darkness is as light with you. 13 For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. 14 I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. (Psalm 139:11-14)

Even There – May 11 2016

5/11/2016
More
There is no place we can go or season of life we can experience where God is not present. "Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence? If I ascend to heaven, you are there! If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there! If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me. (Psalm 139:7-10) Reading and praying through God's word provides healing, courage and stability...

The Basis of Our Purity – April 11 2016

4/11/2016
More
At the heart of the Gospel is a remarkable truth, namely, that the righteousness that God requires, but that we cannot produce, He has made available through faith in His son, Jesus. The basis of our purity is Jesus Christ. The righteousness that qualifies us to stand blameless before a holy God is not our own - it is the righteousness of Jesus credited to our lives as a result of our trusting in Him for our salvation. The Apostle Paul writes, "For our sake he made him to be sin who knew...

Unity of the Church – April 10 2016

4/10/2016
More
In the Apostle Paul's prayers we see a passion for the unity of the Body of Christ. In Romans 15 Paul prays, "May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus, that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ" (Romans 15:5-6). The unity of the Church is intended to make a profound statement to the watching world. No wonder seeks to cause divisions and factions. Pray for the...

Mutual Ministry – April 7 2016

4/7/2016
More
The Apostle Paul valued "mutual ministry" in the Body of Christ. He wrote to the Church in Rome, "For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I mention you 10 always in my prayers, asking that somehow by God's will I may now at last succeed in coming to you.11 For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to strengthen you— 12 that is, that we may be mutually encouraged by each other's faith, both yours and mine"...

Thankfulness For The Church – April 5 2016

4/5/2016
More
The Apostle Paul loved the Body of Christ and he constantly prayed for the health and well-being of the Church. To the Colossian Christians Paul wrote, "We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love that you have for all the saints, because of the hope laid up for you in heaven" (Col. 1:3-5). Let's allow the model of the Apostle Paul to stir us to pray for the Body of Christ.

Fleeting Pleasure of Sin – April 3 2016

4/3/2016
More
In the Bible, Moses chose to endure being mistreated with God's people rather than enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. There is so much in the world that promises fulfillment and satisfaction but is contrary to God's character and holiness. Eternal perspective equips us to make God-honoring choices today, knowing the ultimate joy of walking in obedience to Him.

You Can’t Even Imagine – April 2 2016

4/2/2016
More
God says that we can't begin to imagine all the things He has in store for those who love Him (1 Cor. 2:9). We can so easily satisfy ourselves with lesser things ... even damaging things. However, to make choices today in light of future realities requires eternal perspective.

Eternal Perspective In Suffering – April 1 2016

4/1/2016
More
Whatever you may be suffering today is not the end of the story. The Apostle Paul writes, "We do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal" (2 Corinthians 4:16-18)....

Not Silver or Gold – March 31 2016

3/31/2016
More
What is the most valuable thing you possess? What did you have to pay to own it? The Bible tells us that our salvation was purchased "not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ" (1 Peter 1:18-19). The price God paid for you and me moves us to worship and provides eternal perspective.

Spiritual Fitness – March 30 2016

3/30/2016
More
You can find people working out at fitness centers 24 hours per day. Our culture is obsessed with fitness and body image. The Apostle Paul exhorts Timothy to "train yourself for godliness; for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come" (1 Tim. 4:7-8). It's important to honor God with our bodies, but we also need to pursue spiritual fitness with the same discipline and commitment.

We can easily be deceived into thinking that all we see and experience is the ultimate reality. But Jesus said, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away” (Mt 24:35). The Crucifixion – March 25 2016

3/25/2016

On this day of Passion Week ... Jesus was crucified. 800 years prior to Jesus birth the prophet Isaiah wrote, "Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way; and the Lord has laid on...
