Room for London Radio
Music, writing and other recordings made in A Room for London, a one-bedroom, boat-shaped building sat atop Queen Elizabeth Hall. For part of every month in 2012, Artangel has invited writers, musicians and artists stay in the boat, using their time aboard to make new work or performances. Residents have included David Byrne, Jeremy Deller, Jeanette Winterson, Andrew Bird and Laurie Anderson. A Room for London is a collaboration between Living Architecture and Artangel. Its design, by David Kohn Architects in collaboration with the artist Fiona Banner, is based on Le Roi des Belges, the riverboat on which Joseph Conrad travelled up the Congo before writing his great novella Heart of Darkness.
