SWBTS announces leadership plans; IMB trustees meet, commission 24 new missionaries

Several changes were announced that reversed some previous decisions by the trustees at Southwestern Seminary and the International Mission Board. Also, at the IMB's trustee meeting a huge announcement was made about the 2021-22 Lottie Moon Christmas Offering.


Greenway resigns at Southwestern; EC meeting recap

Southwestern Seminary announced that president Adam W. Greenway has resigned from his post. Also, the SBC Executive Committee met and got a lot of business done—and collected a couple of really big checks.


Leatherwood elected ERLC president; Carter joins Send Network team

The Southern Baptist Convention's Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission has a new permanent president in Brent Leatherwood. Also, Matt Carter has retired from pastoring to join the North American Mission Board


SBC23 hotel info released; Remembering Queen Elizabeth II

Arkansas state exec Sonny Tucker announced his retirement, and another state convention has a new exec chosen. Also, Texas pastor Matt Chandler is stepping away for a season at The Village Church.


SBC pastor pay report; SBC23 kickoff

A new study from Lifeway Research shows that while the cost of living has increased dramatically in the past few years, pay for Southern Baptist pastors has not followed suit. Also, a kickoff event was held this past week in New Orleans in preparation for the 2023 Annual Meeting and Pastors' Conference.


DOJ to investigate SBC; Baylor, BGCT relationship to be examined

The SBC Executive Committee announced last week that the United States Department of Justice has opened an investigation into the Convention regarding sexual abuse. Also, Baylor and the BGCT announced this week that they are reevaluating their relationship.


Barber names ARITF; Missionary scholarships increased

SBC president Bart Barber named the full Abuse Reform Implementation Task Force. Also, a pair of seminaries announced an increase in missionary scholarships to the schools.


ARITF chair, vice chair named; Barber, Keahbone highlight resolution on Native Americans

Marshall Blalock and Mike Keahbone will lead the soon-to-be-named ARITF for Southern Baptists. Also, Keahbone and SBC president Bart Barber participated in Indian Falls Creek this week and highlighted a resolution passed at SBC22.


ERLC president search winding down; Allen leaves Southwestern

The search team tasked with selecting the next president of the ERLC updated Southern Baptists on the process and their progress this week. Also, longtime SWBTS professor David Allen has left the seminary.

Southeastern Seminary has implemented a new required course for all students in preventing sexual abuse and caring for survivors. Also, Mike Keahbone is ministering to other abuse victims thanks to a newly passed SBC resolution.

SBC Pastors' Conference president Daniel Dickard has announced who will serve as fellow officers as well as what the theme of the 2023 conference will be. Also, a camper at Falls Creek in Oklahoma lost his life after experiencing a cardiac event at the camp.

Send Relief establishes fund to support sexual abuse survivors; Louisiana church has 35-week baptism streak

Send Relief has officially established a sexual abuse survivor care fund for Southern Baptists to donate to, and a Louisiana church has baptized someone for 35 weeks in a row totalling 99 baptisms already in 2022.


Roe overturned by SCOTUS; EC search team seeks recommendations

Today was a monumental day for Southern Baptists and for all Americans as the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade and ruled in favor of Dobbs. Also this week, the SBC Executive Committee President Search Team announced they are now accepting submissions.

Send Relief to give $4 million to cover sexual abuse reform, care, and training

Send Relief announced its intent June 8 to give $3 million to fund the proposed Sexual Abuse Task Force (SATF) recommendations for sexual abuse reform, and an additional $1 million to establish a survivor care fund to provide trauma care for survivors and trauma training for pastors.

SATF proposes recommendations, EC amends budgets to provide funds

The SBC Sexual Abuse Task Force released its proposed recommendations that will be brought to the SBC Annual Meeting later this month. In response, the SBC Executive Committee amended budget proposals to provide funding for the recommendations.
