Raising Littles While in Recovery: How Defiance Might Be A Cry for Safety

7/1/2025
"Have you ever wondered how your healing journey might be affecting your kids?" In this raw and hope-filled episode, we open up about something deeply personal: how our past addiction and betrayal affected our son in ways we didn’t fully understand until years later. From missed bonding moments to outbursts, shutdowns, and total dysregulation—what we thought were just "strong-willed" behaviors were actually cries for safety. But here’s the good news: Jesus is in the business of redemption. And the healing we've experienced has radically changed the way we parent and connect with our kids. We pray this story brings you hope and helps you make sense of your own journey. We’re also giving a little peek behind the scenes—sharing about our family’s move back to California and some exciting ministry updates! Our couples course is being professionally filmed, our new his-and-her workbooks are on the way, and we’re launching a leadership network that could reach couples across the globe. Through it all, we’re reminded that when we create safety in our homes, we reflect the heart of the Father—a God who never gives up on us. “There is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” (Romans 8:1). Send us a text -Do we, as parents, know about the potential dangers of apps like Roblox, Minecraft, Snapchat, TikTok, and Instagram? -Is it true that platforms like Roblox are enabling sexual predators to target children as young as five years old? -How can these tech giants disregard the importance of parental controls and safety features despite the thousands of horrific stories that have emerged?! In this episode, we interview Titania Jordan, Bark Technologies' Chief Marketing Officer and Chief Parent Officer. She is an author and thought leader on digital parenting and has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, the Huffington Post, CBS This Morning, Good Morning America, and many others. Protect Young Eyes: Stewarding Tech Well with Chris McKenna

3/25/2025
Have you been at a loss to find the best way to make your home tech-safe? Has creating healthy tech boundaries with your kids or spouse been a battle? Have you struggled to understand healthy tech practices, much less model them for your family? We most certainly have. Today's guest, Chris Mckenna, has fought long and hard to become a respected voice on digital safety. He is the executive director of Protect Young Eyes and has dedicated his career to creating practical tools and resources for families, caregivers, and schools. In this episode, we discuss incredible topics like the five habits of a tech-ready home, micro-moves that make a big impact, and how to model tech usage for our kids to create healthy habits. We also learn about the toxic trio—the three places when and where tech is most often used in destructive ways—and the five layers of protection we can implement in our homes and on our devices. Chris explains that we don't need to fear tech but learn how to steward it well using the principles he shares at Protect Young Eyes. Instead of moving to an Amish community with our kids ( we get it, it's tempting), we can learn how to implement Chris's teaching of "right kids, right tech, at the right time." The Power of Proactive Accountability

3/18/2025
Why do most accountability circles seem ineffective? How is it that Clint had accountability partners since high school but still struggled with his addiction? In this episode, Charity interviews Clint about his understanding and experience with accountability and why it fell short. Is the purpose of accountability merely to publicly confess and hope to do better the following week? Clint shares that many of his Christian AA circles focused more on "do's and don'ts" rather than on the transformation of the heart. They often failed to explain how to process emotions, triggers, or life's burdens using community support. Although the temptations and struggles of life remain, learning to manage them healthily through proactive accountability has transformed his life. Meeting weekly with brothers in Christ allows them to share feelings and triggers about their faith, family, finances, fitness, and work, which has helped him avoid medicating negative emotions related to these areas. Clint emphasizes that we will either understand our feelings, express them, and learn how to stay safe while experiencing them or resort to unhealthy coping mechanisms. Practicing proactive accountability has become a powerful tool on his recovery journey. Resources: https://www.instagram.com/restored2more/ https://restored2more.com/donate/ Send us a text

The Art of Embracing Anger and Processing it in Healthy Ways with Erin Stretar CSAT, CPTT

3/11/2025
In this episode, hosts Clint and Charity engage in an insightful conversation with Erin Stretar, a skilled therapist from Ohio who holds both CSAT (Certified Sex Addiction Therapist) and CPTT (Certified Partner Trauma Therapist) credentials. This discussion dives deep into the often-ignored feelings of anger that betrayed spouses experience during their recovery journeys. Erin paints a vivid picture of the two common responses a betrayed spouse may have toward their anger. For some, this powerful emotion serves as a strategy for protection, providing a false sense of control and safety and an attempt at balancing the power differential. Conversely, others may find anger to be an unfamiliar and unwelcome feeling, fearing that expressing it could lead to even more heartache and emotional pain. One of the key principles Erin discusses is that anger is a natural and essential reaction to feelings of injustice. She asserts the importance of giving this emotion a voice, emphasizing that when expressed healthily, anger can pave the way for healing rather than leading to feelings of guilt and shame. Clint then asks how a spouse can support their partner in processing their anger in a way that promotes healing for the betrayed spouse and strengthens their relationship. There is so much gold in here that it would take too long to write it out, so hit that play button and get your notepad ready! Favorite One-Liners: -Unprocessed anger results in unhealthy coping. -If you stay angry, you can’t process other emotions like grief and fear. -Your anger needs to be given a voice. -Anger is a sign of injustice. Why is Church So Difficult in Recovery?

3/4/2025
Do you find it challenging to find joy in church on Sunday mornings while in the midst of your recovery journey? Clint and Charity often do. In this episode, they share their heartfelt struggles with serving, enjoying, and experiencing church life, even after visiting many congregations, serving in a few, and being on staff full-time. It's vital to recognize that you're not alone in this journey. Clint and Charity aim to normalize these challenges and uplift anyone feeling the same way. Church can often feel daunting when it seems to lack authenticity, when sermons skirt around real-life issues, or when the atmosphere feels devoid of hope and joy. Yet, within this turmoil, we can still embrace and embody God's beautiful design for the Church. We can choose to be the church, worship amidst hardships, and hopefully lead the change by passionately following Christ. Together, we can open our hearts to allow Jesus to meet us in this wrestling match, guiding and teaching us along the way. Mama Bear's Apologetics Guide to Sexuality with Hillary Morgan Ferrer

6/15/2022
Hillary Morgan Ferrer is the founder and Mama-Bear-in-Chief of Mama Bear Apologetics. She is the chief author and editor of the bestselling Mama Bear Apologetics: Empowering Your Kids to Challenge Cultural Lies and Mama Bear Apologetics Guide to Sexuality: Empowering Your Kids to Understand and Live Out God's Design. Hillary has her master's degree in biology from Clemson University and a master's degree in apologetics from Biola University. Today she shares how she was led to a deeper understanding of God and inclined to worship during her master's in biology. She explains how as she studied cell biology, she was given example after example of how the physical attributes of our body point us to God and the spiritual realm. Her teachings and writings have inspired thousands of people to understand and experience how physical things continue to point us to the spiritual. She explains that if the physical points us to the spiritual, then gender and marriage have new meanings and purposes. She teaches that our bodies are the language of God's mystery, a roadmap guiding us into deeper intimacy with the Divine. One of our favorite moments in this recording was understanding how sex has been so perverted in our culture, distorting our view and understanding of God. One of the amazing questions Charity asked is, "What does it look like for us to celebrate our kid's sexuality, guide them in what is appropriate but avoid shaming them for things that they have done wrong?" Hillary takes the question and adds a new perspective on how gratitude and humility play a huge part in leading our kids in their sexuality. We too often avoid choosing gratitude and showing mercy because of our own brokenness and pride. If we can teach our kids to be self-aware through our own example of awareness, our children can choose Christ instead of merely abstaining from sin out of unhealthy motives. The challenge is: "Are we being then Deputy Holy Spirit to our kids and leading with shame? Or are we leading with an example of humility and gratitude?"
