The Healing Moment: Exploring the Seven Paths to Recovery and Personal Fulfillment
5/6/2023
In a recent podcast episode, Dr. Dona Marks discussed her new book, "The Healing Moment," which shares the seven paths to healing and recovery. In this insightful and transformative conversation, Dr. Marks emphasizes the importance of trusting our inner voice and how it can guide us through life's challenges. She also explores the concepts of forgiveness, healing, and validation, especially for traumatized children in the age of social media. Additionally, we delve into the nature of addiction, considering whether it's an inherited or learned trait, and discuss various options for treating addiction. The conversation also touches on the power of self-love, appreciation, and connecting to ourselves, emphasizing the importance of compassion, love, and overcoming fear to achieve personal fulfillment. The Power of Trust and Self-Healing According to Dr. Marks, the key to healing and recovery lies in trusting our inner voice. This voice can guide us through life's challenges and help us make better decisions. However, it's essential to differentiate between the fear-driven voice and the loving voice within ourselves. By recognizing the aggressive, fear-based voice and the quieter, loving voice, we can navigate through internal conflict and make better choices. Forgiveness and Healing Forgiveness is a crucial aspect of healing, as it allows us to express and process our emotions. Dr. Marks discusses the difficult journey towards forgiveness and how self-blame often lies at the root of our inability to forgive others. She also highlights the challenges that men face in expressing their emotions due to societal expectations and the potential negative impact of technology and artificial intelligence on our emotional well-being and interpersonal relationships. Validation for Traumatized Children In the age of social media, young people are more connected than ever, yet they are also less related and forming fewer meaningful attachments. Dr. Marks acknowledges the importance of communicating openly with teenagers, valuing their insights, and supporting them through any challenges they may face, including those related to trauma. By focusing on contributing positively to social media rather than seeking validation, we can help mitigate these issues. Exploring Addiction Dr. Marks explores the nature of addiction and whether it is an inherited or learned trait. She considers the idea that addiction is a brain disorder and examines the different forms of addiction beyond drugs and alcohol. Various options for treating addiction, including twelve-step programs, therapy, and inpatient or outpatient treatment, are also discussed. Personal growth and spiritual development are crucial in overcoming addiction. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Responsible Pet Ownership for Rat Care
3/2/2023
Responsible pet ownership is a vital part of caring for our animal friends and ensuring their health, happiness, and safety. One of the first decisions that pet owners must make is where to source their pet and what type of pet they would like. For example, if you choose to get a rat, you can either buy a rat from a breeder or a feeder bin rat. When assessing the health and friendliness of a rat, look for a clear coat, bright eyes, alertness, and a friendly attitude. Pigs are also a popular pet choice and the Kony Kony is the smallest breed. They have a fascinating history, and are known for their intelligence and adaptability. When it comes to rat rescue, the goals include finding homes and offering medical care, food, and toys. Rat rescue is made possible by a tight-knit rat community, but coordinating activities and care can be difficult without a facility. To this end, some have proposed creating a greenhouse and roadside vegetable stand to serve as the building for the rat rescue. Time management, breakfast favorites, and the paranormal are often discussed in the rat community, but don't forget about the power of getting involved in your community. Even if you don't have your own historic building, there are still ways to help out and make a difference. When it comes to rat ownership, it's important to remember that rats are social creatures who need companionship. Multiple rats are usually recommended, as having a single rat can lead to loneliness and depression. In conclusion, responsible pet ownership is an important part of caring for our animal friends. We should all strive to source our pets from reputable breeders and assess their health and friendliness. Rat rescue is a worthwhile endeavor, and we should all look for ways to get involved in our community. Lastly, rats need companionship, so multiple rats are usually recommended. Daniel Bautz on 'The Blood of Life'
2/15/2023
Blood cults have been a common theme in fiction for centuries. From ancient stories of gods and goddesses to more modern tales of vampires and werewolves, blood cults have been a source of fascination for readers. The power and mystery of these cults have captivated readers for generations, and they continue to be a popular topic in books, movies, and television. The power of blood cults is often rooted in the supernatural. They may be associated with dark magic, and their members may be granted special abilities or powers that ordinary people do not possess. In some cases, these abilities may be used for good, while others may be used for evil. In either case, the power of blood cults can be a source of great fascination and terror. In Daniel Bautz, Life Is In The Blood we are introduced to a preacher who is part of a blood cult. This cult requires its members to drink the preacher’s blood in order to gain power and immortality. The preacher is on the run from the law, and he is eventually tracked down by a famous author and a sheriff. The author is looking for a great story, while the sheriff is looking for vengeance for the preacher’s actions in his town. The story of Life Is In The Blood serves as a reminder that power can be a dangerous thing, and that it can lead to corruption and destruction if it is abused. It is important to remember that power absolutely corrupts and should be used with caution. Blood cults exist in fiction to remind us of this, and they are a great way to explore the power of the supernatural and the consequences of abusing power. Learn more about your ad choices. Love is the Answer to All of Our Struggles and Challenges

We all have a calling, a purpose in life that is uniquely ours. For some of us, it is easy to recognize, while for others it may take a lifetime to uncover. For Jeannie Thompson, a former Fortune 50 executive and author, it was a journey of self-discovery that led her to her true purpose. Jeannie started her career as an evidence-based psychotherapist, treating anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorders. She then moved into the corporate world, leading high potential and leadership development programs and eventually becoming a Fortune 50 executive. After 12 years in the corporate world, she decided to explore the world of energy, something she had once made fun of. This exploration led her to become a Reiki master, certified yoga teacher, and to learn all she could about energy work and the power of the visible and the invisible. It was this journey of self-discovery that inspired her to write her book, 9-1-1 From Your Soul. In it, she shares her story of how she followed her soul’s calling to pursue a career that she was passionate about. She believes that when life challenges us, when our plans fall apart, we become open to exploring and expanding our understanding of wisdom and solutions that simply may not have been available before. Love is the answer to so many of our struggles and challenges. It is the answer to our innermost questions. It is the answer to our needs and wants. Love is the answer to our pain and suffering. Wayne White is an explorer who has walked thousands of miles and never missed a day outside. He joins us to talk about his incredible experience of becoming the station manager at the South Pole. Despite the hardships and feeling helpless of a global pandemic, Wayne and his crew prevailed and he is alive to talk about his journey. He explains that he had always been attracted to harsh conditions and the great explorers of the past, prompting him to pursue his dream of working overseas. He was lucky enough to land the job at the South Pole and is now honored to be able to talk about it. The conversation is about the speaker's experience of moving from the tropics to Antarctica. He had seen advertisements for the job and jumped at the chance to go. He was aware of the differences between the two places, including the temperature. He had grown up in the Midwest and had worked in Alaska, but never experienced cold like when he first arrived at the South Pole. Exploring the Next World: Extraordinary Experiences of the Afterlife with Gregory Shushan
1/18/2023
Gregory Shushan is the guest on the Malliard Report. He is the leading authority on near death experiences and afterlife across cultures and is the author of numerous books, including the most recent one, The Next World of Extraordinary Experiences of the Afterlife. Gregory and Jim are discussing Gregory's new book, The Next World: Extraordinary Experiences of the Afterlife. Gregory explains that his previous two books are published by Bloomsbury and Oxford University Press and are intended for an academic audience, which is why they come with a hefty $110 price tag. He wanted to write something more accessible and affordable for people interested in near-death experiences. His new book looks at the idea of the afterlife from different cultural and religious perspectives. It is both accessible in terms of academic language and affordable for readers. The narrator has always been interested in unusual phenomena and began exploring after reading a book called Phenomenon. During his first degree in Egyptian archeology, he noticed similarities between ancient Egyptian beliefs of the afterlife and near-death experiences, such as leaving one's body and entering a realm of light and meeting a being of light. He decided to pursue the subject and make his work accessible to a broader audience. The conversation discussed near-death experiences (NDEs) and how they are symbolically expressed in ancient cultures. It was mentioned that in ancient Egypt, the dead were associated with the god Osiris and that part of the afterlife journey involved encountering the corpse of Osiris in the other realm. This realization that the corpse is one and the same as the dead body on Earth is what allows the spirit to continue on to the afterlife. Contemporary NDEs involve the spirit rising out of the body and looking down to see their dead body lying there. This realization allows them to accept the reality of what is happening to them and accept their own death. Gregory then explains that the NDE is not the only way to explore the afterlife. He suggests that lucid dreaming, out-of-body experiences, astral projection, and other forms of non-ordinary consciousness can allow us to explore the next world. He also discusses the importance of integrating these experiences into one's daily life and how they can help to facilitate a deeper understanding of life and death. Finally, Jim and Gregory discussed the importance of looking at the afterlife from a spiritual perspective, and how it can help to provide comfort and understanding in our own lives. Jim Malliard Welcomes Tanner Campbell to Discuss Stoic Ideas for a Better Life
1/11/2023
Jim Malliard welcomes Tanner Campbell to the show. Tanner is a philosophy writer and podcaster who focuses on bringing the philosophy of stoicism out of the pages of history and modernizing it to a more practical and useful way of individuals living today. During the interview, Tanner discusses his new book, Living Well: Stoic Ideas for a Better Life, and how stoicism can be applied to modern day situations. He shares some tips on how to live a more stoic life, including the importance of self-awareness, focus, and detachment. Zeno of Citium was a Greek philosopher who founded the Stoic school of thought in 300 BCE. He got the idea for Stoicism after he was shipwrecked and lost everything he owned. He went to the Oracle of Delphi for guidance and she told him to take on the power of the dead. Zeno interpreted this to mean that he should study the great thinkers of the past and learn from their wisdom. Stoicism is a philosophy that emphasizes self-control, rationality, and stoic acceptance of the things we cannot change. In the 300 BC, a man named Zeno of Citium had a dream in which the goddess Athena told him to become a philosopher. He took this to mean that he should become pale like the dead, as pale people at the time were often indoors reading books. He went on to found the philosophy of Stoicism, which is based on the idea that the only good is the development of a virtuous character. Stoicism quickly caught on, and Marcus Aurelius, who reigned from 160-180 AD, is considered the poster boy of Stoicism. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Pet Ownership: The Conversation and The Liability
1/4/2023
The conversation is about the difficulties the speaker is having with technology. They are trying to get a video up for their daughter to show off her pets, but the program keeps crashing. They express their wish that the program would just crash so they could restart it. Two people are talking about a pet rat. The rat is mostly white with some tan markings on its back. It is two years old. The person recording the conversation notes that the video program is having difficulties, but decides to continue recording and post the video anyways. The conversation then turns to discussing the details of the rat. The speaker has six pet rats, three of which are female. The oldest rat is female and likes whipped cream and scrambled eggs. The second oldest rat is Celeste, who is black and white. She is one year old in human years, and will turn two on the 21st. She likes to run on her wheel and eat anything. The third rat is white with red eyes, and likes to eat whipped cream and strawberries. The fourth rat is male and likes to eat eggs. The fifth rat is Saturn, who is the speaker's favorite. The person talking has nine pets, including rats, bearded dragons, geckos, and a dog. They say that the rats are small, only a pound and a half, and that the bearded dragons are big, about the size of Saturn. They also have a turtle that just sits in its tank all day. And what's your exposure? What's your liability as a pet owner? I don't want to take my pet out in public because if my dog bites somebody, we're in trouble. Having an untrained animal in the store is very dangerous for everybody. And I don't know if you remember that one animal we saw that was growing in the shopping cart. It's very important for people to realize that faking a service animal, you can also get in trouble if your little mutt gets out of your shopping cart and attacks an actual service animal or the service animal's handler.
